Two weeks ago I adopted a feral cat from a Humane Soc. foster home. She is very shy and often hides when she is alone. How do I get her to stop being such a scardy cat. She was with several siblings and was the smallest and seemed to be a loner when I picked her (or vise versa). She plays fine and seems to greatly prefer my husband's company to mine. Do you think she will outgrow this leftover feral instinct to hide when I enter the room?

Most feral cats think humans are mean, so it will simply take time for her to learn to trust you. When you go to see her, always have treats or catnip, so she associates good things with you. Don't give up: it can take a few months, depending on her age, to realize that you're not like every other human she's every met.

OEM...My four sibbling kittens started out feral. Found in our shed w/mom when they were about 4-5 weeks. They're 9 mos. now and we kept them all. They've adapted as members of the family very differently. My smallest and slowest to trust has progressed nicely. However she still reverts somewhat at times displaying some jumpiness. She tends to adventure outdoors more than the others (brother Shady can be the same way too) but also comes inside each night, finds someone or someplace to snuggle and headbonk but it has to always be her idea. She will probably always run hot/cold I suspect but she's healthy and seems happy as well.
