I'm calling her Theresa after a blind seer in the Fable games. Good news I don't think she is totally blind, either that or she compensates REALLY well so far. Her pupils are very dilated but once I got the yuck out there are eyes in there so I think she can see light and dark and she didn't walk off the edge of the bathroom counter. Hubby is miffed. I'll sleep better though.

Well I brought the blind kitten home
(51 posts)-
Still trying to get her in to a rescue if possible due to her special needs. I gave the poor thing a capstar for her fleas, I've never gotten so many off a living kitten before! Got some amoxcillin in her too for her cold. She's skin and bones. She truly may not make it, she is so very weak, but at least if she dies she'll be comfortable and flea free instead of alone and miserable. She is eating and tried to drink her bathwater lol so those are good signs.

Bless you for rescuing the little mite.
Here are some websites that may help you either find her a furrever home or convince your husband that she already has her furrever home.

Poor little kitty. Hopefully good food, a warm bed and freedom from fleas will be enough to allow her to fight the infection. How old is she?

She's about 6 weeks old. Very patient. Did NOT like riding in the car lol. Lol my husband knew what he was getting into but he gets annoyed with it at the same time. I can understand, I know it's inconvenient for him and that the house might get smelly when there are four cats in one room (mom and babies) and that he is not a cat person. But he's pretty patient with me....Plus ;) it's MY house. I've made all the payments, mortgage power and water and it's in my name :P can he really argue? (he's going to school more than me so he works less so I knew it would be like this but still, I am the breadwinner)

I hope he will at least tolerate her. He didn't like Cali at first either, now that IS daddy's girl lol. I made a listing for her here. Suki has one too.

Kit, i think there may be a very good chance that that kitten has chlamydia. The symptoms sound eerily similar to a kitty i once fostered. She was limp & lethargic when i got her (didnt think she was gonna make it), and the vets at the shelter thought she was blind due to the effects of a really bad eye infection, which they were treating with amoxy. They had her on amoxy for 2 weeks, and the blood/puss discharge from her eyes hadnt cleared up, so i took her to dr peck right away. Turns out chlamydia doesnt respond to general antibiotics, but within half an hour of getting the right stuff (vibravet paste) she started looking better. Turned out she wasnt blind either. The chlamydia literally ate away her inner eye lids and the outer layers of her eyeball, as well as seriously infecting the inside of her eyes. It took 5 months, but her eyes recovered. She has a cataract on her one eye now, which can be removed surgically if her owners should choose to, but if you didnt know the story, you wouldnt know she was any different from other cats.
Maybe you can go read up on feline chlamydia in the online merck veterinary manual, see if the symptoms your kitten has fits? Also, chlamydia is highly contagious, so you might want to keep her away from the other kitties.

I'm pretty sure it's a URI because she is sneezing and she has her inner eyelids, you can see them in the picture. She's not as lethargic anymore either! got those fleas off and she started to spunk up. They were sucking the life out of her! her eyes aren't red, or tearing, she does have discharge but it is coming from her tear ducts. I'm going to take her to the vet to be "weighed" tomorrow. My vet can't resist seeing what comes through his clinic and he'll come out and talk to me, which gets me a free consultation lol so I'll double check with him though, but it looks like it's a severe URI to me. She's already quarantined just with the URI since I have babies in the house. I'm bathing in hand sanitizer and lysol lol so hopefully it will be ok.

Its just a thought - the kitty i had was in bad bad shape cause the shelter didnt realise her meds weren't working. I always get my own vet's opinion on sick foster kitties. Unfortunately i lost a lot of my faith in shelter vets. I love them for what they try to do, and i understand the pressures they work under, but i've had sooo many kitties who got a wrong diagnosis from the shelters i used to work with. I'm hoping that maybe your kitty will get more of her sight back as the amoxy treatment continues :)

Kit, you're wonderful for taking this wee kitty in, and I bet hubby will soften his stance. She is such a wee cutie too.
