  1. Is there anything this could be other than distemper?

    I took him to the vet almost a week ago because he was poking and and had diarrhea. The vet did a stool sample and said it looked like parasites. He's been on reforming medicine for a week now, with continuing diarrhea. I just found blood in some, and now I'm very worried.

    Could it be something else? Looking for some hope. We are going to the vet in the morning.

  2. It could still very well be parasites. Try not to worry too much, though I know it's hard, and just get him back to the vet tomorrow. Diarrhoea is hard on a kitten, it can dehydrate them, so a vet is the best idea, even if it is just parasites. I'll give you a link to the tent test and pedialyte thread so you can test your kitten for dehydration, just in case.

  3. The tent test is to test for dehydration:

    Tent test: pick up a good pinch of kitten's skin at the neck and let go.If it snaps back immediately, she's hydrated okay. If it takes a little time to go back down, or, worse, it stays up in a 'tent' shape, she needs fluids, such as pedialyte (from the supermarket, children's aisle) or home-made pedialyte below.

    Note, in the United Kingdom, pedialyte is called Dioralyte. Also known as rehydration salts.

    Home-made pedialyte:
    Pedialyte:

    * Pedialyte formula (from World Health Organization)...no preservatives so short life-span
    * 1 cup water (boiled then cooled)
    * 2 tsp sugar
    * 1/8 tsp salt
    * 1/8 tsp baking soda
    * (this Pedialyte formula gives needed electrolytes & some sugar for energy)

    Combine all ingredients and warm slightly.
    Make new after 24 hours.

  4. He's been drinking lots of water, so he isn't dehydrated. The vet said that the blood was probably from the diarrhea, which could be irritating his intestines. She's having me mix pumpkin into his food, and told me to switch to science diet since he could be having a reaction to his food. But no distemper!

    I swear, this kitten gives me a heart attack at least once a week.
