  1. Hi everyone! I'm new here, and a new mommy to a very sweet 4 month old Siamese/Snowshoe mix kitty. We got him from someone off Craigslist at 10 weeks and since then, have given him all of his vaccines and deworming with the vet. He's also on Revolution for fleas.

Early last week, we noticed he was sneezing quite a bit more than normal and was acting strange. He was being somewhat playful, but not the normal ball of energy that he had been, and he had been vomiting up his dry food at night.. so we took him to the vet and she diagnosed him with a URI. At that point, he was on Wellness Kitten Health dry food and we fed him 1 can of Wellness or Royal Canin canned food every other day.

He has been on antibiotics since then twice a day and we had him on an all canned food diet. We were rotating from Royal Canin and Wellness, and we also had a Nutro can in there as well just for some variety. We fed him 3-4 cans a day for about a week. Then we went to 1-2 cans a day and free-feeding the Wellness dry food again. Today he started acting strange again. A bit lethargic most of the time. He has been laying down in bed and on his window perch most of the day. Now it's 8 PM and he's being a little bit active.. he's running around and I gave him some Greenies as treats not that long ago. I have fed him 2 cans of canned food so far as well as a small amount of cooked chicken livers. I will feed him 1 1/2 to 2 more cans tonight.

But now he's having diarrhea and acting lethargic.. he's playing a little bit right now, but I still feel like he's not 100% right. I've done some research and I just can't figure it out.

    Can anyone help me?

    Thanks in advance,

    Tristan's Mommy

  2. Welcome to TDK. Your kitten is precious. It sounds like there are so many things going on with him....food changes, illness, medication. I don't really have any advice besides that if you feel like things with him aren't right, maybe a return trip to the vet would be a good idea. Maybe others will have other words of wisdom. I hope he is back to his usual energetic self soon.

  3. The changes in food, plus the antibiotics, plus the richness of the chicken livers could all give him some tummy upset. Make sure he is staying hydrated. Call the vet and find out if a little bit of plain (not pie filling) canned pumpkin might be a good idea.

  5. Thanks everyone! Tristan seems to be doing a little better. He was a wild kitty last night, playing around and jumping on everything! He was back to normal between 8 PM and midnight or so, when we went to bed. He vomited in the middle of the night, however, and we had to change the sheets.. and after that, he is seeming to hold his food down better and doing well. He's not as playful today as usual again.. he has been resting a lot. But he has also been eating.

I've been checking for dehydration with the skin on the back of his neck and he seems to be just fine. I've been adding some water to his canned food when he eats it.

Haven't noticed if he has had diarrhea or not today. I was gone for the first half of the day and hubby was home, and hubby was working on things around the house, so he didn't get the chance to pay attention to it, and he hasn't gone since I've been home for the last couple of hours. So we shall see how it goes when he does!

I will also give the vet a call and try to see about the canned pumpkin. I want to do whatever it takes to make sure my kitty is all better! He just ate some food and now he's on his window perch cleaning himself.
