Hello. I found an abandoned kitten last week and took him home with me. I've been to the vet on Tuesday and she says that he's doing really well and that he is around two weeks. He's active when awake and has a good appetite. But when I first got him he didn't poop for a few days, then had a pretty big normal poop, then nothing again for two days. This morning he had just a little of what I would call quasi-diarrhea. He pees a ton. Should I be worried? I know they can get dehydrated pretty quick. Is it overfeeding? He drinks his bottle really fast and always seems to want more, but I know it's bad to fed him too much. I'm feeding him KMR from the can, but how much exactly should I give him each time? I'm still feeding him every three hours. He weighed 8 oz at the vet. She said he should gain 1/2 an oz a day, so probably more than that now. Any help is appreciated!

Hi, ErinM, pooping every two days sounds fine, don't forget he is only on formula, he only has a tiny tummy and his little body needs most of what he is taking in to grow. I don't really think you can overfeed a kitten this age, especially if he has had a bad start, but if you want a general guideline, at two weeks he should weigh about 7 oz and needs 56 cc/ml formula per 24 hours, divided into 4 feedings (so 14 ml/cc per feed).
The feralcat site also says this: "A kitten needs approximately 8 cc/ml's of formula per ounce of body weight per day. The kitten's age determines the number of daily feedings it should receive.
When a kitten has had enough formula, bubbles will form around its mouth, and its tummy will be rounded. After each meal, burp the kitten by holding it upright against your shoulder and patting it lightly on the back.
Do not overfeed kittens, as this can bring on diarrhea as well as other problems."
These sites are really helpful for raising kittens. The last one has the feeding chart for kittens.
