Ok guys, so I own 3 cats, 2 males and 1 female; all former strays that I ran across as kittens and raised. I found 3 orphaned kittens yesterday that were very weak and hadn't even opened their eyes. I bottle-fed them, massaged them and now they're all cute and cuddly and have all opened their eyes. They are even starting to walk :) They seem healthy overall, they don't have fleas and they are getting stronger every day. I massage them with a wet cloth before and after I feed them and they manage to "burp" and go #1 every time. However, I CAN'T make them go #2 :( I've tried everything! I found some mustard colored liquid on their blanket, but I don't know if it was a weird case of diarrhea or if one of them threw up.. What's more, none of them is suffering from constipation, so I really am lost. I've raised numerous kittens and they have all turned out healthy so this is really unsettling. Any advice/help would be very much appreciated!

Hi, Nadia, the mustard-coloured liquid stuff (like smellier, mustard-yellow pee) sounds exactly like poop to me. Plus they are only on formula, don't forget, and they need most of that to grow on, so they are not going to produce much poop and may well poop about every second day, which seems about normal. And they may well have had empty tums when you found them so it may take a little while for their little systems to kick in. Bless you, you sound like you're doing an excellent job! Here are the sites we always give to new foster mums, the messybeast one tells you just about everything you could possibly need to know but they're all good....

Hey Nadia --- those babies are lucky you came across them. No telling what could have happened to them. I recently had a month old kitten who had the same issue -- bottle fed and wouldn't poop, even with stimulation. I asked the officers at the shelter and they suggested mixing a small amount of canned pumpkin in her formula. It did the trick -- coincidence, not sure, but I was SO happy when it finally happened. Good luck and I hope they find wonderful, loving homes.

That sounds okay too. Could be that that little one's system has kicked in. Kitten poo is normally mustardy but if it's in the brown range, I think you should be all right. That last website I gave you has 'the poop on scoop'! Always a good idea to take new arrivals to the vet to get them checked out! :D

Yeah, they're doing great :) I'm so happy, they're exploring my room and learning how to play! I was so worried that one of them was in pain 'cause it kept meowing even after I fed it.. Apparently, it wanted more attention -as if feeding and stroking them every three hours -even during the night- wasn't enough-.
They'll make excellent pets! Thank you for your help people
