  2. Doesn't sound good at all, I have a love-hate relationship with salt!

  3. I have to give up my pickles and olives?! Wipe that smug smile off of your face, WWM!

  4. And I thought all the salt would preserve me as I aged! Like a pickle or olive. Damn.

  5. I swear that I am craving pickles and olives now. Darn article.

  6. Nooooooooooooooooo, not pickles and olives! KK's right, they should surely preserve us for future indulgence, lol.

Actually, if you look at the article, just give up processed food. Who was it who said, never eat anything your grandparents would not have recognised or that comes in a box with writing on it... Yes, even if the box says 'low fat' or 'low salt', lol.

  7. What if the box says "Eat me I taste nice"???? Think one of the worst things is crisps and they just happen to be my biggest weakness.....Grrrrrr

  8. My goodness - I really had no idea about that! What an interesting article!

  10. DM, actually potato chips (crips) have much less salt than people think, when compared to other foods. They taste salty because the salt is on the outside, rather than integrated within the product. Once slice of whole grain bread usually has more sodium than a one ounce serving of chips (single-serve bag).

Check out what your Food Standards Agency reported:

In 2000, bread contributed around 22 per cent to the overall intake of sodium from the household diet, indicating that it is one of the main sources of sodium in the diet.

  11. HA!!!! I happen to know that you don't have a shovel, Dee!!!

And it's true - most of the sodium that we eat is in processed foods. You know what I can't for the life of me figure out? Why raw meat that you buy at the store already has sodium!

  12. Pickles, did someone mention pickles...never, crunch...crunch...nummmy as Kosher dill w/garlic...crunch!

  13. WWM, there is some naturally occurring sodium in raw meats, just like in lots of fruits and vegetables but lots of meats today have sodium solutions added. I am glad that the labeling is going to be much better to distinguish those with a sodium solution now! Read more: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/231618.php

  14. Oh, I'll be glad for the better labeling, too. Of course, it already takes me forever to get through the store because I read all of the labels. So now I guess that I'll be spending the day there!

  15. I am so totally screwed!!!!!! I don't salt a lot of my foods (except tomatoes) because most things are already loaded with sodium, but I am a pickle addict!!!!! And now just reading about pickles and olives makes me want some!!! Wah! Wait, what were we talking about?

  17. Have not tried the Hot and Spicy variety, but I have a jar of Mt. Olive Pickles in the fridge at work as we speak. They seem saltier than Vlassic
