  1. So reading Emma's post and the comments that have followed, I had to start this thread. Over the years, what have your cat(s) broken???

Betty and Wilma have broken multiple picture frames, a candle, a flowerpot and some glasses that were on the kitchen sink.

Molly never broke anything that I remember.

  2. Let's see.... a favorite lamp, an antique bric-a-brac bowl, several table top photo frames. And one cat thinks clawing the end of the mattress and box springs is the best scratching post despite there being a variety of scratching posts and scratching pads around the house. Another cat shredded the upholstery of the two dressiest, most expensive chairs in the formal living room.

  3. Numerous knick-knacks, bowls off of counters, flower vases off of shelves, knocked entire shelves of books onto the floor (just because they wanted to lie in that particular spot), tore the covering off of the box spring because how else could they get in there to hide (duh), and who knows what else, lol!

  4. Deb mine have torn the cover off the boxsprings as well but other than that I can only think of a class Dragon my Shadow broke (RIP Feb 8th 2006) he knocked it off and it's head broke off. I still have both pieces put away.

  5. When Roxy was a kitten, she used to take a running leap at my table cloth on my dining table. Silly me, I thought I could deter her by placing a very heavy wrought iron votive candle holder on the table. That lasted approximately a week before she brought the whole assembly crashing to the floor! Even on carpet, the votive glass shattered EVERYWHERE. For a few days after, I gave myself nightmares of Roxy finding a piece of glass and swallowing it, puncturing her insides.
Sawyer used to swing from the hoodies on my coat tree like he was Tarzan! He kept pulling the coat tree down, causing a huge thump on the floor (tenants underneath me were impressed, I'm sure) and eventually bent the coat tree enough to where it looked like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I dismantled the tree and started utilizing my hallway closet for my coats and hoodies after that!
I always like to tell people that I'm not allowed to have nice things because I chose to own cats instead :p

  6. I have way more problem with MrKK breaking things! Actually Ringo did break a couple of planters - he slid off the back of the sofa and knocked them off the bookshelf.

  7. My heart when they go to the meadow. On a less serious note I had a lovely ceramic bread warmer I got at a craft show. Molly broke it. Both she and Sophie ran for the hills, Tessie started to run then stopped and said wait it was only a noise. My two youngest have chewed through cords breaking my answering machine and the antenna for the TV. They broke my cookie jar that I keep dog treats in--they like dog treats and the have broke many dishes. They are wild children.

  8. Hmm, where to start. Well, the antique berry bowl, a snowglobe, a picture frame (the glass broke, not the frame I guess), one of my crystal dragons, two ceramic dragons, one pewter dragon (I think she's jealous of my dragon collection), a bud vase, almost a toilet tank cover, one recliner arm...you are so right, RM, we chose to have the kitty instead. My dragons are now behind unjumpable (so far) barriers and all my snowglobes have been given to my niece, who is, alas, catless.

  9. HI PJ, I like snow globes, too. So far mine have been safe *knocking on wooden head as I say that.* I'm back to work now and working a really early shift so I'm off to bed as soon as I finish this post.

  10. Oh you are so right, Sandi, it would break my heart. I would gladly give up all my posessions for Molly.

  11. Good luck at work Sandi! Good to be back I know, I start Friday!

  12. Honestly, even with my good memory, there is no way that I can remember all of the things that my cats have broken, scratched or chewed. Something is destroyed or no longer in pristine condition every few days.

Atticus has always chewed like a puppy. He has cat toys made for cats who like to chew but he has never touched them. I even got him some doggy chew toys but he would not touch them, either. He would rather chew cell phones, remotes, books, headphones, etc...

  13. Chloe never broke a thing. Mili on the other hand... quantity not so bad. A flower pot and.... the TV. Yep... I had her one week and had put a bud vase on the entertainment center. Never gave it a second thought. Came home and the vase was on it's side... the water having run down the back of the TV. You remember the kind - the not-flat screen. Killed it... lol

  14. Cheetah broke my brand new computer flat screen the day I installed it. He like to jump up on the old big monitor to sleep on top of the vents. He jumped up on the inch wide new monitor, did a really funny balancing act then tilted it so it was trying to hold his 15 pounds of kitty fat. It was more than the tilting mechanism could hold and it snapped right out of the support and crashed to the floor. Thank goodness I had Buyer's Insurance with my VISA card. The lady in the big box computer store laughed until she choked, then went and got me a new screen.

  15. Lol, that's funny, CBM!
2P, I remember when Mili broke your tv :)

Well, as I mentioned on another thread yesterday, Milo broke the toilet! Someone broke a vase - not sure who. And when Milo was a kitten, he chewed through the shoe laces on every pair of shoes I owned. Bobby chewed a rather sizeable hole in the wall - and he's still working on killing the couch, making slow and steady progress.

  16. Crockey has "broken" (chewed thru screen of door a few times since he has become "domesticated".) Dot on the other paw was purrfect, don't recall her ever breaking a thing for she was my little purrfect queen!

  17. Georgie's worst offense has been to break several of Mr. K's precious porcelain cows (a collection that predates me in Mr. K's life). It was funny, sometimes he could tiptoe around them without so much as touching them and other times, BOOM CRASH!, broken cow. We got some museum putty but ended up only using it on a handful of the cows because they get moved around from time to time.

  18. Well lets see, I have a whole box full of glass, porcelain , etc. from when Velvet and Spice came to visit. I've got many new rips in the couches, spots on the rugs from "accidents".............

  19. Numerous knickknacks - one cat loved to be up on shelves and another had no idea how to control that tail of his. The most interesting was the desk - a secretary style desk with the writing surface that is folds out from the front of the desk - fat cat leaped on desk and CRACK goes the top.

  20. My mother collected cranberry pieces (vases, bowls, etc) that she kept on the fireplace mantle. She had a big black cat, Smokey, who weighed 20 pounds in his prime. Smokey was always very careful where he stepped when he was on the mantle until the day he got upset with my mom. I don't remember exactly what he was upset about, but he jumped up on the mantle, looked at Mom, reached out with one paw and knocked one of the vases off onto the tile hearth. That was the only thing he ever broke.
My 4 have never broken anything.

  21. *sighs* Cuddles (when she was a kitten almost 17 years ago).... jumped up on my mantel and broke my great Aunt's 100+ year old priceless red antique vase!!!!!!!......... I cried for DAYS!

  22. Oh gosh too numerous to remember... They've broken numerous glass picture frames,a clock(bobbie clawed it off the wall trying to jump on top of the low wall separating the living/dining areas). They broke a bunch of the ceramics my grandma made :(. They claw the back of cloth chairs. When you come in the house you can tell we have cats not by the litter box but by the state of the furniture. I used to get upset about it then I realized how much of a privilege it is to be owned by awesome kitties. I now keep anything really important to me in the glass display cabinets.

  23. I forgot to mention probably the most dramatic breakage any of my cats has ever achieved. Christmas of 1979 I lived in a small apartment with my cat of the time, Scamper, who was well named. I brought home a small live Christmas tree one evening and only got as far as putting lights and a steeple on it that night, planning on finishing with ornaments the next evening. Scamper was a good boy all night and didn't molest the tree. But when I came home from work the next evening I walked into destruction. The tree was lying on the floor in the bedroom. It was obvious it had been dragged all through the apartment. Chairs, lamps, wastebasket were all overturned. Even the little coffee table was overturned. The steeple was shattered and the string of lights was considerably worse for wear. Apparently Scamper had tried to climb the tree, had it fall over as a result with him entangled in the string of lights and frantically trying to escape this horrible monster that clung to him no matter where he fled through the apartment. Poor baby needed LOTS of love and comforting. I gave the remnants of the tree to my brother across town and did without a tree.

Fast forward to the following Christmas. I had moved and was living with my parents that year. Mom and I brought home a nice tree (not the puny Charlie Brown type like Scamper had battled the previous year.) The minute we carried it in the house Scamper gave it a baleful look, hissy spitted with pure hatred and went into hiding. About three hours later when Mom and I were putting finishing touchs on the decorations Scamper came very slowly slinking into the room, belly low to the floor, ears laid back, fur all bristled up. I was worrying about the fate of the tree. Scamper made a final swift dash up to the tree, gave it a hugely angry swipe at a lower branch while verbalizing every hateful thought he had and dashed off back into hiding. He didn't go near the tree again nor molest it in any way. Nor did he do so any other Christmas while he lived.

Poor Scamper kitty. That first nasty Christmas tree had attacked him!

  24. Poor Scamper kitty, lol. I bet the air was blue with kitty curses. ;)

Posted 9 months ago by Buttercup #

  25. LOL @Buttercup. Oh, decidedly blue air! My poor Scamper used such un-gentlemanly kitty language at the Christmas tree.

Posted 9 months ago by Marnet #

  26. Let's see:
Well there are the carpets - by every door there's a hole in the carpet where at one time or another the door was shut with the cat on the wrong side of it. All 4 cats have been guilty of that.
Various bits of crockery/glassware left out in teh kitchen.
A large terracotta flowerpot containing a big plant (don't how they managed to get it off the windowledge - I could barely move it!)
Oh, and Garbo ate a complete set of homework once. I had marked it and put it on the floor beside my chair as I marked each sheet. I had finished and just sat back for a moment. As I was relaxing I heard a peculiar noise and looked down to see Garbo shredding and chewing the children's work! That took a bit of explaining, I can tell you!

  27. Oh, poor Scamper kitty!

PM, that puts an entirely new spin on, "the dog ate my homework" :)

Posted 9 months ago by Kilroy #

  28. Oh no, Marnet...tee hee...the tree that stole Christmas spirit from Scamper, poor kit! Lol Kilory...homework comment! Coming in for some iced java for last lap of this fun, end o'month tomorrow & I will definitely be caught up by then at this place!
Just had a memory flash from childhood of Winkie/cat chasing Rusty/dog around xmas tree near our swivel rocker which twirled around and hit the 6 foot fully decorated tree, but it was after Christmas so that was the beginning of taking down the yule!

  29. Marnet - you have a wonderful way with words ! Poor Scamper....

Slightly different than broken - I cannot leave bread, rolls, muffins, cereal, anything of the like on the counter. Even in the plastic wrap. Mili will chew through the plastic and eat whatever it is. I found out the hard way she will also eat KitKats ! Doesn't like 3 Muskateers though. *sigh*

Posted 9 months ago by 2 Popoki #

  30. So 2P, KitKats are fine, 3 Muskateers are icky, and vases are given the kibosh! Oh, dear... I remember feeling so guilty for inflicting Mili on you when she killed the TV set only one week after her adoption!

(Bet you wouldn't trade her for a dozen TV sets now, though.)

My cat Even is the same way with baked goods... will chew through the packaging to get to any kind of bread product. Such things are only safe in the breadbox on top of the fridge, or in the fridge itself.

Any list I would have of kitty-destroyed items would be far too long to itemize. Safe to say that I love my cats more than all my furnishings!
