Another Surgery for FondaHonda's Dad on Thursday (:

  1. 'Because of the aggressiveness' of the cancer, the new surgeon saw him this afternoon. He'll have another surgery this Thursday where they will be removing some bone from his ear (not the jaw) where the tumor was wrapped. Unfortunately, he'll lose his hearing on this side but they will put in an implant in a couple of weeks. They're going to fill in the gap w/fat from his stomach (unfortunately they wouldn't take me as a donor! :) ) and he may be home that day or the next. We're praying that, again, they'll be able to save his facial nerve--his mouth is already a little droopy on one side but that might improve with time. If you could, just continue to keep him in your prayers, ok? He's a little down about all of this and just wants to get back to his normal life (i.e. play golf!!) :0

  9. It sounds like the doctors are doing a lot for your dad. I can't imagine they would be so proactive if they weren't pretty sure of a good outcome.

    Losing the hearing in one ear isn't that bad - he'll be able to pretend he just didn't hear something if he doesn't want to pay attention to what you told him.

    My thoughts are with you, your dad and your family.

  12. Oh, I'm so sorry for this set-back, FH. But it is the wise thing to do and hopefully this will prevent any chance of metastasis. But I know that it would have been discouraging news to your father, and to all of you.

    He did so well with the first surgery and he has my continued prayers that he will come through this one just as quickly and be back out on that golf course in record time.

  26. He should be in surgery for another 1 1/2 hrs. We've been here since 5:30 and there was a mix up w/insurance so they didn't get him in until an hour ago. What a long day!! Thanks for the continual TDK white light--we all know how well it works! SM

  28. It took three hours, but he's finally out of surgery. They saved his facial nerve!! The doctor said he took out a lot more bone than he expected and they sent it to the pathologists. Fingers crossed that it turns out ok. So far, all of our prayers have been answered!! We're one happy/blessed family! Thanks again, guys!
