Info Needed in Portland OR

  1. Wondering if anyone can help. My daughter lives in Portland, OR. Someone got into her apartment, no forced entry, while she was at work. Her cat, Simba, was tormented. A week later, the intruder returned, but this time killed Simba. She went to the shelter and adopted 2 kitties, Callie and Jasper. Four days later, she came home after work and to find Callie attacked and killed and Jasper injured and in pain. A police report has been filed. Does anyone know if similar things have been happening in and around Portland? Thank you for any information.

  2. OMG JROC.....how horrifying!! You might ask our other TDK member Kittenwhisperer. If I recall she lives in Portland & she's a judge as well.

I'm so very sorry your sister had this happen. Whoever did this to her cats must be very evil. I'd love to get ahold of the monster. They wouldn't know what hit them.

  3. I am not near Portland but it is obvious that the intruder is an insider. Management and Maintenance would have master keys or access to copies of the actual lock.
Your Daughter needs to move. Anyone who would attack the cats in her absence would also attack her.

  4. I agree with Ailur; is there someone (a worker) in the building she's had a conflict with? She should definitely start looking for a new place to live. How awful for the poor cats, and for your daughter.

  5. OMGosh, how terrible for your daughter and her cats. She should acess her acquaintances behavior just in case it is someone she may know for as no forced entry. But still think it is time to relocate!

  6. JROC....I'm so sorry. I meant daughter in my above post...not sister. I think Ailur's advice is spot on.Your daughter should move.

  7. JROC I am from the Portland area, Vancouver WA (right across the river from Portland) and I have not heard anything like this happening at all. I checked the local news stations and I see no mention of anyone else having had this happen. I agree that this sounds like someone who has access to her apartment. She might also want to contact one of the newstations so others can know what is happening. Whoever did this needs to be locked up!

I checked again at the local news and this is all I could find.

  8. Not sure if this will help, besides what was said above. Such a sad and gutwrenching experience for your daughter. There are many wireless alarm systems for apartment dwellers, so when you move it can be taken with you. Not sure if the apt management needs to approve, as they need access to the apts. from time to time.

  9. That is horrible, so sorry that your daughter is going thru this and very sad for the kitties.

It does sound like someone has access to the apartment and that should be addressed immediately to both the apartment management and the police (figure this has already been done). If whomever is doing this now, what's to stop them from hurting your daughter which is a scary, scary thought. Maybe she should contact the news stations in the area too.

  10. I am so sorry to hear of this. Your daughter and the dearly departed kitty's have my prayers. I now worry for your daughters safety as well. Please keep us posted. Hugs.

  11. OMG, I can't even begin to imagine how terrifying this is. Has she contacted the local ASPCA or Humane Association and, as JD suggests, local newspaper and/or radio station to warn them that a maniac is about? What about an email campaign as well?

But most of all I agree with Ailuromaniac and Kilroy. Your daughter is not safe there. She needs to move. Has she an ex boyfriend or partner who could still have a key and be doing this? Abusing animals is a very common way of domestic abuse and this is desperately worrying. Please encourage her to get out of there -- stay with friends, if necessary. In the meantime, can she change all her locks?

  12. She needs to get out NOW, even if she only goes to a hotel or shelter. This really sounds like someone who knows and hates her. Anyone at work could have lifted her keys and copied them. Someone who works at the apartment could be doing it. If she's broken up with anyone recently, or even turned someone down who asked for a date, they could be taking the rejection poorly.

She might be able to convince the apartment management to let her change the locks and not be on the master key, but if it's a maintenance man at the apartment, that won't help.

Did the police dust for prints, take pictures, act concerned at all? If not, she needs to make a pest of herself so she gets the attention she needs.

  13. I agree, CBM, it really sounds like domestic abuse/stalking to me. Has she had anything else happen -- letters, phone calls, people hassling her -- that could be connected?

  14. Oh my gosh JROC,how terrible!! She needs to move pronto hopefully in with someone else until this is sorted. I am so sorry to hear this.

  17. You all are so wonderful with your thoughts and concerns and I thank you all very much. She and her kitty, Jasper, are at a friend's house and she is looking for a new apartment. Police took pictures but did not check for finger prints. Police called manager but had to leave a message and have not heard back. I will keep you posted. Thank you all again.

  18. Thanks for the info. Thanks for your prayers.

Posted 8 months ago by jRoc #

  19. JROC, I'm saying a prayer for your daughter right now. I pray that she remains safe, that her remaining kitty Jasper heals, and that your daughter immediately finds a new place to live and goes back to her current place to pack and leave ONLY with additional people along to ensure her safety while she moves out her belongings. I pray further that the police take this seriously, investigate vigorously and find whomever is responsible and put he/she/them behind bars for a long time. My sincere sympathy to your daugher for her appalling loss of beloved pets.

  24. Wow. Poor kitties. However, this is typical behaviour for a stalker. The other TDK'ers are right, if he does this to cats, he will do the same to her. Usually when stalkers do this it is an implied threat to the person who lives there, and doesnt really have too much to do with hatred for animals themselves. She needs to get into contact with the police as well - not to file a report about the animals necessarily, but so that they can be aware of what is happening. Moving would be an excellent idea. The fact that this happens while she's away means this person knows her routine. She should also set up a system of checking in with someone at regular intervals throughout the day via phone, and she should have key words like "I'm heading out to yoga class" or whatever to signal that she's in trouble. She should also start looking out, see if someone is following her, tampering with her mail, her car etc. She should also check with her friends, associates at work/school and ask if anyone has talked to them about her, showed up saying they're old friends looking to find her etc. The threat is directed at her, not the animals. MOVE!!

  25. Jroc, if the police aren't being aggressive about this, then I would talk to someone higher up the food chain in the Police Department, the City Council, the Mayor, the news stations, etc., this is too dangerous a situation to be blown off because "we left a message and no one returned our call" crap! Could very well be someone within the apartment management chain also, since they have maintenance keys to all their apartments. Hope that your daughter finds another living situation soon and that she and the kitten are safe.

Did you by any chance send an email to KW and ask if she knew of anyone to contact about this that maybe would be helping your daughter better?

Posted 8 months ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  26. Please send me KW's email address or ask her to check out this thread. Thank you all so much. Have to go to work now, but I will check in tonight. Again thank you for your prayers.

  27. Callie and Simba stroll beside the great Wolf as he processes through the Meadow. The sun is high in the bright sky and the wind blows the clouds through the soft summer sky. The three pause in their walk, and the two young cats look up at their new friend.

Callie giggles, "This long grass tickles my nose!" as Simba rolls in the greenery, paws waving. He loves the grass!

Redford and Shaddo and Jiggs, heads lifted to look for the new arrivals, rise from their place near the hedge rows and call their welcomes to the handsome pair.

"We're so glad to meet you," says Wilbur, bumping heads with Simba. Callie is soon surrounded by Emma Blue, Kizzy, and Mama Cat and other admirers join them. Odie's barks announce his presence and that of Hillies, Peaches, and Beau. More -- cats, dogs, hamsters -- quickly join the newcomers. Jasper the ferret runs fast, a small bunch of daisies clenched in his teeth. Small bouquets are his specialty, he tells the Wolf, inhaling the scent of the pretty flowers.

Soon the Meadow is swarming with friends, old and new, lost and found. The Kitten Pack is in full cry, tumbling over the grass in their haste.

    "I wanna meet them!"
    "I was here first!"
"We gotta show them the Brook!"
    "They are so pretty!"

The Wolf touches noses, first with Callie and then with Simba, knowing that they remember his talk with them: all memory of pain and horror from the other life are gone. They will only remember the love and joy they know from the dear lady who will come for them much later.

He walks away from them as they meet all the others in this part of Paradise.

The Wolf climbs to the top of his knoll and sits, looking past the hedgerows, past the last tree line, toward the World of Man.

"You will pay for these deeds you commit against the small and helpless. I was called a 'brute' when I lived in your world, but you are greater brutes."

The massive head shakes and the golden eyes are burning slits in the dark face.

"And at the end of time, I will take you brutes...all of you...by another road...to a different gate...."
