  1. I felt like going a bit exotic today. I bet you did not know that Sept 8 is Independence Day in Macedonia!

So, how about a traditional Macedonian breakfast? I don't know what some of this is...but it looks great! And they love strong Turkish coffee! (Check out the person's photostream of the country, too.)

  10. Dee, for the most part I try to stay up at least a few hours that I would be working. Used to try and do the "normal" dayshift sleeping pattern on days off and it killed me when I switched back to the "midshift" sleeping habits. Wish we worked 4 10's though, then even doing the catch up sleep would take up one day with two days still to do things around the house or just relax.

  11. Morning all. I think I'll try that Turkish coffee - I need it this morning, as Bobsky was being a loudmouth most of the night.

  12. Morning GD, oh, naughty Bobby, let your mama get a good night's sleep. I'm just popping in to say hullo and goodnight -- going into Wellington tomorrow to see friends and pick up my new contact lenses, so mustn't stay up till all hours tonight! Have a great day, everyone!

  13. Morning everyone!..... I'll join ya with a Turkish cuppa, and a slice of that cheese pie - *wonders* if it's anything like quiche????

well, I signed up yesterday for a 5 mile walk for the cure race, so now I've committed myself to be 'in training'........ oh dear, what have I done??!!

  14. Happy Thursday! It's almost Friday :) My town is getting flooded right now, some areas with 2 1/2 ft of water on the roads. Here is an article on the town that I am living in (http://www.ctnow.com/news/ctn-rain-causes-flooding-20110908,0,4966928.story). We also have bob cats in the town next door where my local mall is (http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/Bobcats-Put-Families-on-Alert-129426928.html). They say sightings are right by the mall which is about 4 miles from my apartment.

    Bobcats and floods, oh my!

  15. Hi Gini!....... well, floods are common here, and I saw tons of bobcats in NC.... but if you're not used to either, they are definitely forces to be respected, especially those bobcats with kitties - they must be indoor only!!!

Posted 8 months ago by AV #

  16. Bobcats are rare here I think. There was one that they caught over the summer it was a big deal on the news. They said they thought it was a pet that was set free. Now there have been more and more sightings in other areas so they are starting to change and believe they are actually living here. Yikes! I'm not used to floods either! Hurricane Irene knocked out our power and snapped poles and trees, but we still didn't flood with it. For some reason with the remnants of lee we are now flooding

  17. How are you today av?

Posted 8 months ago by gini #

  18. Hi everyone. We have bobcats around here too. Sorry about flooding; it's coming up again here too. Can't get to work. First day of school has been cancelled, and the central office is closed too. I don't think I will be able to get to my mother - had to get into it a bit with a cop to get to her after Irene but since the water is rising, I'm pretty sure they won't even let me in this time. At least my brother is with her. Very concerned.
Kitties are under my feet following my every move - they know something's up (no pun intended).
No appetite. Not much sleep. I'll stop back for crepes later.

  19. Hi Joan good to see you check in. I hope the flooding isn't too bad. It's good that your brother is with her and she is not alone. Try to keep in touch via cell phones if they have any and fingers crossed there is not any damage and everyone stays safe. Scritches to the kits. Keep us updated!

  20. Wow, bobcats! Good thing your babies are indoor only, Gini!

AV - way to go on the walk for the cure! I'm doing a 61 mile bike ride on October 2nd for Livestrong. My co-worker and bike friend's last hurrah before moving to CA so that'll be kind of sad.

Posted 8 months ago by GD #

  21. Gini, I'm fine, as are the girls..... Abby is as sweet as ever, and Cuddles has enjoyed her time from being in the a/c, to spending a few hours on the porch watching the fish.......

....... floods usually become more and more of a problem, as the rains continue, and one system follows another...... Irene soaked the area, and now Lee is trying to dump more water on top of already soaked ground, or already over full rivers........ that's usually why what may seem like a 'lesser' storm causes problems, it becomes 'the straw that broke the camel's back' so to speak!....... hope eveything is going well with grad school for you!

.... Joan, I'm sending prayers for you and your Mom, I know it's upsetting when you can't get to someone and you're worried about her! at least your brother is with her!

.... GD, wow! 61 mile ride!!??!! you are way better than me!..... I'm just glad to be a part and contribute.........

Posted 8 months ago by AV #

  22. AV, I've done two 100-milers, so I should be able to manage the 61 - except I really haven't ridden much at all the last several months. The last thing I did was beginning of July and a 32 miler. I may drag the bike out today and go for a spin.

Joan, so sorry you're still experincing all those weather troubles up there. I'm glad to hear your brother is with your mom, though.

Posted 8 months ago by GD #

  23. GD, good for you!...... I just hope I make it thru my measley little 5 mile walk/run without passing out! LOL

    heading out to work now!

  24. I'm sure you will, AV!!

  26. Hi Kitts....the cafe is hoppin' already....hugs and well wishes for those in the flood zones....very scary.
I'll try some of that Turkish coffee, but may have to dilute it some :)
I hope everyone has a great day!!!

  27. Hi all. Thanks for the Turkish coffee. Going to need it. I had better check with Joan to see how Mom and the family are! Hope everyone has the best day they can!

  28. Morning everyone! SOMEONE was singin' arias in the hallway around 4am, but then things settled down. I woke up to two kittens at my feet this morning! Luna wakes right away, but Willow takes her time waking up. Kinda sits and blinks for awhile, yawns, stretches, blinks some more...

And I had the most PRECIOUS cuddle with Luna! She needs to be encouraged to jump on laps, generally if I scratch the arm of the chair, she'll come up. She did that this morning and then crept across my chest and laid down while I was sitting in my recliner. She normally does not stay long.

Then she did it AGAIN, and this time we had a full ten-minute cuddle. That was very sweet, she was perfectly relaxed.

    Gots to run....check back later...,

  29. Mom's phone is working again. She is ok. The Red Cross has been fantastic; trucks go up and down the street like an ice cream truck! She has also been going to the local church for dinner. Several hundred people are living there as they lost everything. Mom feels fortunate.
It has stopped raining. Now we wait for the river to crest.
Hi SM! *waiving* Wow, standardized cycle assessments already! I haven't kept up much around here but hope your school year is going well!

Posted 8 months ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

  30. Joan, I'm SO happy to see you check in and to hear that your mom is OK; I was worrying about her.

Morning, all. Another reasonably quiet night with George, but I slept horribly anyway (or did a fabulous job of not sleeping). At least the sun's out temporarily.
