help~
Today the kitty has diarrhea and is not eating much. I got new formula Thursday and it is different from what she started out with, but today is the first sign of diarrhea. It is very loose, normal colored. But I went from using Hartz formula to KMR second step. I am wondering if I am just feeding her too often, I feed her every 3-4 hours and she yet has no interest in solids @ 24 days.

Hi KT, I love the pictures of your cats, Mischief is a lovely cat and your kitten is just too cute for words =].
I think you're doing everything just fine, I've recently taken in an orphaned kitten and at 3 weeks I was feeding her milk every 3-4 hours. However I hear that diarrhea can be troublesome for young kittens so maybe a trip or call to your vet would be prudent!
All in all it sounds like you're doing a fantastic job with both cats, and I wish you best of luck in the future! -
Young kittens often get upset tummies when their food gets changed. They are also highly susceptible to dehydration so if the diarrhea continues more than a day, you need to keep a close watch on her. While the stores are still open buy some human infant pedialyte. Use that to mix her formula with (or to dilute the formula if you are using the already mixed kind). It will help keep her electrolytes in balance. If the diarrhea persists for more than a few days, take her back to the vet.

Thank very much!! I will try and pick up some pedialyte. I was just confused because it has been four days with the new food and it just started today with the diarrhea. So I will keep an eye out for her, it seems kinda explosive when it does happen, but she is still playful just not hungry. So today I increased the feeding to every 4 hours to allow it to settle. And then I think slowly I will introduce the solid food with the formula. I am hesitant taking her to the vet, because I own so much~ she is not dehydrated so I will just watch her.

She still has diarrhea... should I contact the vet? I think it is because I stupidly changed the formula and did not slowly introduce it, because I ran out... I feel so stupid. I mean she is still playful and she doesnt seem dehydrated, I am just worried that she is losing nutrition.

triple post I know, but thoughts are coming to mind after I post... I think the I am giving her the second stage KMR a week early... is this bad? I am going to switch back to the original formula tomorrow I have to buy it first... she has been on the KMR since Saturday... it cannot hurt too much can it?

Try mixing the two formulas, new and old. You don't want to be switching her back and forth too often, but maybe mixing it will help her dry up. If she still has diarrhea tomorrow, you might call the vet and ask what he suggests. Older cats can be given a little bit of canned pumpkin (just plain pumpkin, not pie mixture with spices) or unflavored yoghurt, but I don't if you can give that to a kitten who isn't on solid food yet.

KT, I'm guessing it could be parasites. She could have been born with them (kittens commonly are) and they may have just multiplied enough to cause symptoms. Maybe a stool sample to the vet to check for parasites would do the trick. Or some vets deworm without even checking the stools, I think.
