  1. Yikes! My neighbor just knocked on my door (at 3:25) with a very cold, covered in blood newborn kitten! Mom had just dropped her on the sidewalk! The girls brought her to me. She was very cold, umbilicus attached, and matted with blood. I cleaned her up, got her warm, fed her a tiny bit of KMR and put her on a warmer. I have been searching for mom (who is very young) and can find no sign. Should I put her out on the front porch in her warmer box, keep her inside until I get somemore KMR down her? She has produced no urine or feces yet. I have never had one this young. What else should I do? She is moving around but sleeping now. Help! I hope that she survives! TDK some prayers for this tiny little girl.

  2. Wow, Puddytat, a newborn, eh? I have never dealt with a baby that young. I have heard that mothers who are very young may not know how to take care of their kittens, but I would give it a shot and put her on the front porch in her warmer box in hopes of mom coming along. But I would check on her constantly, which I am sure you will do.

I'm assuming that mom is a stray? Do you think that mom may stick around if you feed her?

Bless you for caring for her. I am sending many prayers for the little baby.

  3. I think I will keep her inside until "regular" feeding time about 7:00 and then put her out on the back porch in her box. Everyone comes in to eat at about that time. Only one has appeared so far and he is my tom that has been around for 6 years. The baby is doing well so far (that is..still alive) on the warmers in a box on the kitchen counter. My other babies who are inside Owen, Walter and Scout are wondering what in the world is going on. T-Do and Hadley could care less! Thanks for the wishes. I will need them. Unless a mom will take them babies this young rarely have a good outcome. I keep wondering why I do this! Then again, you should see the face and the stripes on the belly!

  6. Oh Puddytat, how TINY and young. I have never been there either. I did contact Opahall to post here, I know she got Gallo when he was maybe a few days old and now he is a "healthy" 26 lbs! Hopefully she will post soon on how she cared for him. Good luck! Prayers for the baby.

  7. If the mommy is still very young, there is a good chance that she might come back after a few hours. Keep the baby warm, feed it (goat's milk if you can) and keep him on the porch where mom can find him if she does come back. You should try to find a vet in the meantime - some of them keep colostrum substitute, which the baby will need within in the next 12 hours. Otherwise you might just have a new family member :)

  8. Thanks Skyron, Fortunately my "vet" cabinet is well stocked. I have colostrum replacement for both kitties and cows! The little girl is hanging in so far. She is out on the back porch in her warming box. It is such a toss up, I am preparing myself if the outcome is not good. Since she is so tiny they can crash very quickly. My vet has been notified and I am doing everything he would. Please keep up the prayers and good thoughts. We will need it.

  9. Oh dear. :( I wish you all the best Puddytat! It is so very hard to deal with little ones that young.

  10. Oh, Puddytat - that little mama must have known exactly where to leave that tiny baby. Sending prayers that this little one will make it.

  12. Oh my! I got Gallo at 2 days old... I was told to keep him warm and feed every 2 hours. When I fed him I would "burp" him to help releive any gas; after each feeding I would get a warm wash cloth and gently clean his bottom to stimulate him to potty. Then I would clean him with the wash cloth around my finger and gently clean him like an mama cat would...

  13. How precious! A newbie! I've never found them that young either. I have a feeling tho that the mom won't be coming back to get the darling if she's a very young mom. My Prettygirl was a very young mom & not meaning to,put her little 3 Muskateers in grave danger when she took & hid them from what she thinks is danger. We had to pull them from a live power box in 100 plus degree weather.
It sounds like your doing just fine ,with only a little bit of nervous motherly instincts. And what a sweetheart you are for saving the little squeezy. Sending extra Prayers for strength & Healing light that the little one flourishes.

  15. She is still with us! No sign of mom but perhaps she will come in this evening to eat. In the mean time I will continue to be "mom". She has pooped, etc and her umbilicus is drying nicely. Please keep those TDK good thoughts coming! She can use them and so can I! Thanks!

  19. If you have a small stuffed animal to put in the box with the newborn it can snuggle up to it like it would to the mamma cat or other kittens. If you don't have that, try knotting up an old washcloth for to have as a snuggle buddy.

Best wishes and hopes for this tiny little one. Bless you for all your efforts!

  20. She is still fighting. She ate and did all other necessary duties. Mom has not shown up but I keep hoping. It will be another long night. I did take a nap this afternoon which is very strange. I don't nap! I am prepared for tonight. Keep those TDK thoughts coming. I think she is a tabby. Wouldn't you know it!

  25. Sending you many prayers, PT. You sound like a new mommy of a human baby...trying to sneak in a nap. I guess she IS your new baby, eh? Many blessings to you both.

  26. Good Luck!!1

I myself found a newborn kitty Last Saturday. And it is now 9 days old and looking so far so good. Me on the other hand I am exhausted!! I find no time to nap, by the time I do sleep I am already up and mindlessly feeding and caring for the kitty. But I love it! very rewarding seeing the changes every day. I already have 3 other cats too. Ages 15.5y, 3 and 1.5yr, so now adding the baby.

All I can add to this is just keep doing what your doing, feeding every few hours, burping, "pooping" it and keeping it warm and happy. I feel as if my little kitty is already showing signs of its socialization :) It purrs and rolls on its belly to be rubbed.

  27. She is still with me. We made it thru the first 24 hours (2 am) we are now going on 30 hours! I am going to try and find Brazos Valley Feral Cat folks today. They usually have a adopt day on Saturday. I am hoping someone has a nursing mom. A nursing mom would just about seal a good outcome. Keep your fingers crossed for us. KT way to go!! I pray for a good out come. Exhausting is the right word! I am glad that I am now retired! I have 3, 9 week old kits in the house now. One is still on KMR, Walter is a bit slow. The others are tearing around the house deviling my grown ups! T-Do is not amused and Hadley does not care. Thanks for all the thoughts.
