I would watch him very very closely. Did the vet say what they think could possibly cause all the stones? To use the box normal for a few days and then have accidents tells me he might not be 100% feeling better.

Mischief help~

Oh no!!
Well Mischief is sick again!
Just to remind what happened before, he was diagnosed with an anal glad infection and after he recovered from that he suddenly became ill with stones and they were reaccrring and he was having trouble being placed with a catheter. He had a PU surgery and was finally feeling better and well two months later after surgery he is back :(
He struggles to urinate and they cannot pass a catheter and their soluti on is surgery or euthanizia. We choose the option to put him on antibiotices and they are giving him two oral doses and a injection and it has been one day and today when we scheduled surgery he decided to pee on me and next to me and quite a bit. So we have postponed the surgery and if he does not improve with just medication we will contiune monday with the proceedure.
This is very hard, for he is still so young just barely two years old. We are planning to get pet insurance for this may happen again. But we know next time we may have to put him down. :((( I will keep updates, because the surgeon stated that he may have to be euthanized if something goes south during surgery if it results to that.
I am very sad... I love my baby boy, he has to come home and finish teaching Friskcuit all the tricks of the trade.

Oh KT, I'm so sorry about Mischief :( My Georgie has a similar problem with stones and had the same surgery about a month ago.
I'm just curious; what are you feeding him? Some crytal formation can be prevented or lessened with diet.
*gentle strokes and smooches for sweet Mischief*

I am kinda embarrassed and ashamed of myself about the food... I was feeding him the crystal formula diet made from HILLS but because of cost at the time from the 3,000 surgery when we ran out we got the storebrand purina that was labeled urinary track... I was a fool... but now I will be feeding him high end wet food for now on.

KT, we all do the best we can for our cats. They know that & they love us for it. Mischief knows you love him, and he loves you back.
If you aren't already, try adding a little bit of water to his wet food, not so much that it turns into soup (most cats hate that texture). Anything that gets more water into him is good.
Georgie had a vet followup today & the vet was explaining that some cats' metabolism just predisposes them to form crystals, and there's only so much we can do about it.

Alright I have no been on again and I apologize!
Mischief was able to come home yesterday and is on an all wet food diet and multiple medications for the time being. What happened is still a mystery and the vets stuggle to explain his case. So they really thought that he would need to be euthanized, but we refused and suggested over night treatment with antibiotics and manual removal of his urin. The next day I was there to agree to performing sugery, it was all set and ready and suddenly he peed on me, the trouble was his urination he peed a big spot on my leg and then moved next to me and created a puddle on the floor. So we canceled the surgery and suggesting to continue the treatment for the next few days. So it appears to be working and he is able to urinate.
He still stuggles and they even suggested that I may have to express him manually, because he dibbles and there is no flow. But even since he had the PU surgery he was never able to have a flow it was always just small amounts.
So lets just cross our fingers he is able to pee on his own.
-
I am glad to hear that he is urinating on his own!
If he can urinate but has some difficulty emptying his bladder completely, would manually expressing him once or twice a day be an option? At least in humans, incompltetely emptying the bladder predisposes to bladder infections and a weak overstretched bladder. If he can pee on his own somewhat, then he is not dependent on you and you are just "helping'.

Well... he is back in the ER and this mean surgery... and this also means it could be his last day here with us. I am so torn I cannot take this anymore. I feel so guilty trying to save his life, but I feel it is worth the try, because what if he pulls through.
He was just sleeping with me Sunday night... Monday night he was back in the ER he was only peeing in drops and we were going to attempt to express him, but he was so aggitatted from 3 pills being shoved down his throat and us trying to touch his bladder. We took him back in and they said he is blocked. He is at a specialty hospital so I trust them to a degree.
Just pray this last surgery works and it will be the last. I just bought his new diet yesterday.... I want him to eat it. All I want for Christmas is him to come home to me. :((((

Update*** Mischief has been home since Saturday afternoon and he is doing well.
I have to help him in the litter box because his cone is so large he struggles to get into the box. I get him to go pee at least 2-3 times a day and it has been a decent flow. :) lets keep it this way.

{{{Mischief & Kit}}}
Do you have room for a larger litter box? If so you might try going to Lowe's or Home Depot and pick up one of their cement mixing trays and use that instead of a standard litter box. They cost about $5 and are high enough for kickers but great for bigger kitties or even if he is wearing a cone.

Well his litter box will be off this coming monday and I have already four regualar litter boxes and he likes this particular one that I have had for ages. So I just help him out, he is doing well as far as the eye can see. So far this today he has used the box 3 times with my help.

WOW, So I have not been on here in sometime. Just wanted to post how Mischief is doing. Well he is still alive and kicking. He had a second PU surgery over a month ago along with a little tummy tuck. Recently he had a UTI, but as of Monday that is no longer an issue and he is on medications that help relax his bladder. As for his urination flow, it has not changed since his first surgery it is still a small trickle, and he does not like to drink water anymore. SO I add it with his wet food diet. Poor thing has been through so much, but we are just glad he is alive and he looks healthy and better than ever.

Yes we all hope, I am going to attempt to get him off the medications, but if things look south then he will go back on them, but I really dont know how much they are actually helping. He is on Prazosin and Dentroline ( not sure if it is correct but I know it starts with a "d")
-
Why are you trying to get him off of the medications? Alpha-blockers like Prazosin are used to treat urinary retention in humans. I think dantrolene may be used in humans with spinal cord injuries but I'm not sure how they work.

I am trying to get him off of them, because they are very costly and it is a hassel to give to him twice a day. The doctor said that it is possble that he can get off of them, but watch him carefully. He just ran out of the prazosin, so I am watching him, but he seems to be doing well so far.

Hello everyone,
Very sad news... I had to put Mischief down yesterday morning at 4:30 am. He struggled for 6 months and we did all that we could.
He had chronic cystitis that would come and go with the help of our vet. In total I think we have spend about 8k on him and we could not afford it anymore and could not watch him suffer. We did what we needed to do, and my heart is lost without him. I had four cats, but he was the one and only out of all that really made getting up worth it. I cought myself today waking up searching for him and feeding the others as it was his routine. As sad as it is I really loved him and I am glad his suffering is over I just wished he could live longer. My boyfriend and I are about to move out on our own for the first time and would have loved him to be with us, but it is for the best.Dear Mischief,
Mommy loves you... Misses you, but I am glad your feeling better. <3333 -
KT, I am so sorry. Mischief sounds like he was such a special guy. (I know I was totally charmed by his photo and your description of him.) Bless you for loving Mischief so much and fighting so hard to get him healthy. Peace to you, your boyfriend and your other kitties as you mourn his loss.

He was ever so special I do not think I have ever bonded with a cat like I did with him. It hurts just thinking about how much I loved him. I just wish there was a better way. I am still in denile about the entire thing. I held him upon my shoulder with my hand placed on his chest so I could feel his last heart beat. It was the most surreal moment in my life and the pain is asidic. He would look at me as of nothing was wrong, but I knew always he was sick and needed help, I was selfish and wanted him to last longer than what he had the strength for. But that is how much I truely love him... He was my child my baby boy and my love.
Today a huge part of me is missing and I still wait for his ringing collar and his beautiful meow, but it no where but in my memories.
What the next hardest step is that I will be getting the job at the clinic that saved and took his life.
