  1. The TDK Roller Rink is now open for business. Bring your skates and your cats:
kitties have their own rink and skates.

  2. Can we wear rollerblades or do we have to do the old fashioned skates? I'm kidding..of COURSE I'm bringing my rollerblades. I can't bring Maverick, I don't think he'd enjoy it. Huddy might like it though. Got any hot dogs?

  3. I would love to watch kitties on skates! What an image that paints. :-)
I kind of miss my old roller skates. Remember the skate keys you had to use to tighten the toe piece around your street shoes--and the scraped knees? LOL

  4. Spook would love it! She loves to run on hardwood floors!

  8. You know what, Karenopa? I think rollerskates are about the only thing I DIDN'T get hurt on.

  9. Do the kittens skate on all fours or are they upright and gliding along!!!!
How cute, oh-oh, one fell down.
**smooches all around, here kitty, get back up***

  10. Sounds great, though I don't think Harry will be up to skating he got a shot in the butt from the vet this morning :-( poor baby

  11. How is Harry doing, BHM? Poor guy..a shot in the butt. Where is the catnip!

Rollerblading..tried that..just not my cup of tea. I think I prefer the four rollers. I think Mia would be interested but Sylvester would rather watch everyone than participate in rollerskating.

  12. he is doing good, I think this vet was a little over zealous. Harry is on nose drops, antibiotics and got a steriod shot in the butt

  13. I never had skates, was promised a pair after passing grade 1 piano. May I sit in the stands and watch please.
Just remembered there is 2 pairs of skates and 2 pairs of roller blades under the stairs, hmmmmmmmm I wonder if I should.

  15. *watches MS and Bella looking like foals just learning how to stand* :-)

  16. KW, you're too generous. I don't think I could stand up if I had to! :)

  17. I'm sure it's just like riding a bike, Bella. It will come back to you in no time at all!

Now I'm remembering the organ music they used to play at roller rinks. Too much fun!

  18. Got my legs all crossed up and bruised my ego so I'm slinking off to the Night Shift. Thanks for letting me try skating.

  19. I used to wear my skate key on a string around my neck. And boy! Was it hard to walk with one skate on and one dangling from an ankle strap!!!!!

  20. Oh my... it's been a while. Used to play hockey on rollerblades... about 5-6 years ago.

You guys have brought back a TON of memories LOL

  21. What's a skate key?

Posted 4 years ago by Vicki #

  22. Sorry, can't join y'all skating... last time I was on skates I managed to get a concussion. Have fun! I'll be sitting off to the side and feeding Greenies to other kitties that aren't quite sure about this whole skating thing.

  23. We have blades and quads, there are hot dogs, corn dogs, nachos, and other snacks at the snack bar, and the cats skate on all fours.

Posted 4 years ago by Vicki #

  24. LOL oh Vicki, you are a young one. Look here... years ago skates were metal and had a strap around the ankle and clamps at the toes. They went on over your shoes. See the picture lower left. The 'key' was used to tighten the clamps at the toes.

  25. Here's another picture of a skate key and the old style roller skates:

Here is a photo of a little girl wearing the old style roller skates. You can just barely see the clamps that are holding the front of her shoes onto the roller skate: http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/3228225.jpg?v=1&c=ViewImages&k=2&d=27D044C0A019FA6CB35F11DD886AC602A55A1E4F32AD3138

And here is a better photo of the roller skates themselves:

  26. LOL - I was always rubbish at roller skating when I was a kid. My mom said she used to feel sorry for me, I was so bad! Years later, I did like to roller skate on the boardwalk along the beach in San Diego. I still wasn't very good, but I didn't fall over and I did sort of learn to stop and turn! One of the first dates I had with my ex-husband was roller skating on the boardwalk. He had never skated before in his life, and it was hilarious! He looked like Frankenstein on skates! Poor guy! Years later, though he learned to roller blade really well.

  27. Hey, OP, I'm not that young -- I'll be 37 in August. I just never saw anyone skate with skates that required keys to fasten them. KW, those ancient skates look like if you wiped out on them, you'd either lose a body part or get a blood infection.

Posted 4 years ago by Vicki #

  28. YEAH THEY WERE KINDA DANGEROUS

    Posted 4 years ago by kathyanne11/13 #

  29. I'm sorry to say I'm old enuf to remember those kind. They did hold on pretty good to the shoe. I didn't have too many spills. My sister (Karenopa) tho,did fracture her elbow by playing crack the whip. And everyone knows you don't put yourself in the end position of the whip or else your dead meat. Ouch!!!

  30. It's true, Vicki. I had many a scabbed knee growing up, but it didn't keep me from roller skating. :-)
