I'm taking Mr. Leeny to a psychiatric hospital in the nearest large city, a little over 60 miles away. He is to be evaluated to see if the doctors there think he should receive electroconvulsive therapy to control intractible obsessive-compulsive disorder. His medicine no longer works and he has for all practical purposes stopped functioning at home. He is also having visual and audible hallucinations. His own psychiatrist proposed this. Two doctors have to agree that it should be done, and one of them has to be the doctor who would be doing it. If they say yes, insurance and transportation become issues. If they say no, I don't know what happens next.

Not at all what we expected; expected an evaluation for a second opinion and got an intake. They said two doctors' opinions aren't necessary for an adult; not what Mr. L's doctor said. Got lost going there due to road construction and incomplete Yahoo directions ("turn right on a local road"). Arrived late; person who was to collect initial info was at lunch when we got there; waited for an hour until a supervisor discovered the situation and went to get the person we were to see, saying "This is ridiculous!" rather heatedly. Original appt. for 11:30 AM; didn't get home until after 5:00 PM.
Treatment not doable from my position. Supposed to be done 3x/week for 2 weeks, then results evaluated. Weekly maintenance treatments for indefinite period. Would involve driving to the city in AM rush hour, then my sitting in a waiting room for 2-3 hours before 90-min drive home; don't think my knees and back can stand that. Also, can't miss that much work.
Church secretary told me, before appt., to let her know when I found out the timetable and she'd see if people from the church can take turns taking him. Told her that wasn't going to happen; no one would volunteer to go through all that. Let them go through the motions and confirm what I know already.
Quinn ignoring me; having a hunger appeal emphasis at church until early Nov. that so far has included standard guilt-trip/psychological coercion activities. Can't take that right now; sent him a letter and an e-mail, no replies, though he did answer the chicken wing message. Starting to think he's not able to deal with serious one-on-one conversation; it's either a meeting or a joke.
Very sad right now.

I know this was about Mr. Leeny but you have a spiritual need that never gets met there.

Is there any way of getting him into a facility for the duration of the treatments so that he does not have to be transported back and forth. So sorry for your situation and his condition.
