  1. Kits are getting all your favorite comfort foods ready. Chicken pot pie, meatloaf, mac-n-cheese, baked beans, soups, breads and fall pies. One of the Russian Blues ran to the local apple orchard to pick up some apple cider donuts. YUM! They are still warm. We have lots of apple cider, coffee, tea, and hot cocoa with whipped cream. The bar is open, sodas, water and juice as well as lemonade are available. I have on my pj's to watch the Chicago Bears Football game on SNF. I am not rooting for the Bears! Come join us!

I am curious: What is YOUR favorite comfort food? Even more so, I would love to know what our family in NZ eats for 'comfort foods'??? What are some traditional comforting foods for you???

  2. Phew, I think I am off to bed. I have been achey all day. Hope you have a great night and I will see y'all on the flip side! Goodnight!

  3. Nighty-night, MC, sleep well. Hmmm, well, my background is English and Irish and my comfort foods are all the beautiful puddings my English mum makes for us -- sticky date pudding and fudgy date pudding with a crunchy top, gingerbread still warm from the oven and ginger gems, split and filled with fresh cream, hot sponge with golden syrup, beautiful fruit pies (or, as we call them, tarts). And her roasts are totally yummy, with all the roast vegies, though I'd probably give the meat a swerve. I would make an exception though for her yummy yummy chicken and mushroom pie. And her beautiful chicken curry. However, I would also need my mum there to make all these beautiful things because she is a magnificent cook and I'm not!

Otherwise I'm semi-veg so all my comfort foods that I cook myself are mainly macaroni cheese and vegie lasagne and yummy potatoes and kumara (sweet potatoes). And I eat chocolate! And cream cakes! No wonder I'm more solid than I used to be...

  4. Hi MC! I treated myself to a cheese omelet and some sausages this morning along with a hot chocolate with whip cream too so I had my comfort food earlier today. Tomorrow I take Felix to the vet for his first set of vaccinations and health check up. Want to make sure my tiny little kitten is getting enough nutrients.

Jcat all your foods sound yummy. Reminds me of a yummy roast beef with gravy, veggies and Yorkshire Pudding that my Mom use to make. She hasn't made it in over ten years. Oh I am salivating thinking about it!

  6. SMFM - how is Felix doing?............ integrated well with Mia and Sylvester?

Posted 7 months ago by AV #

  7. Hi AV! Felix seems to be holding his own. He and Sylvester wrestle a lot with sometimes my needing to intervene because they get carried away and I hear someone squeal. Mia stays out of it and if Felix tries to get Mia to wrestle, she will have none of it and runs from him. She gives Felix enough of a swat that he seems to know better to not mess with Mia. Felix loves to wrestle with Sylvester. Boys will be boys.

  8. MC, we had a 'comfort food' party recently, there was macaroni & cheese, pizza, lambs fry(liver)bacon & onions, smoked fish, potato salad, lemon sago, cheese cake and chocolates. I consider mashed potatoes with finely chopped onion to be comfort food along with asparagus rolls. I would put a roast mutton(older than 2 years) with all the roast veges in there but a lamb at any age is way too expensive now.
    Off cooking dinner, back later.
Sweet dreams for all heading for bed.

  9. Evening one and all :)

  10. Had my favourite comfort food yesterday (sunday) Roast Beef, roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding, carrots, brussel sprouts and gravy. And of course some yummy horseradish sauce. Phew that certainly cleared my sinuses!!! Other than that, mashed potato on toast is really good, has to have a liberal sprinkling of salt....sorry for using the "s" word!!

  13. LOL @ the two cats and the ball of string. Love it.
Hi DM, your meal sounds delicious. I've never had yorkshire pudding but I have a Scottish SIL living nearby who makes it regularly. Maybe I should get an invite next time she is doing a roast. I love horseradish sauce, I only tasted it for the first time last year. We just had a heap of mashed potato and kumara(sweet potato) with garlic powder in it, mmmmmmmmmmm.

  20. Evening Deb, hows w**k?

    Posted 7 months ago by Moonshadow_NZ #

  21. Crossing my fingers that it stays as it is now, won't even whisper the word :)I can deal with it tonight just like this, had a horrible time sleeping today....really bad time of it.

So besides your nice sounding dinner, how was your day?

Posted 7 months ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  22. Pretty much just another day, feed the cat and then let her in and out of the door until the sun came out and I could leave the door open and retire. I spent the afternoon planting out seedlings, weeding and getting the outside ready for heavy rain and wind we have forecast.
Sorry about the lack of sleep Deb.

  23. Love the inside, no outside, no inside, no wait I want to go outside with HRH :) Mine would do it if they could, if it was my house I would have an enclosed porch so they could be out there. Wish that we have 25% of the rains that you do, not greedy here.

  24. Have no clue why I couldn't sleep today, bad dreams kept interrupting for who knows what reason.

  25. Went into the nicest tea shop in the mall on Friday, they were selling loose leaf teas and had a very nice selection of hot teas. Thank goodness they weren't trying to press on the Chai teas, for some reason I just don't enjoy the Chai teas especially cold.

  26. Can't believe you have never had Yorkshire pudding!!! They are lovely...in olden days when there wasn't the money for a large joint of meat it used to be served before dinner to help fill the family up!! Even Dave joined in dinner, only gave him a bit of the beef though, don't trust him enough to give him any brussel sprouts!!!

  27. Maybe it's the moon Deb, I've had trouble sleeping this last week. I think I'll sleep in every morning but then something happens and I have to be up at the usual time or someone knocks on the door. Grrrrrrrrr
I have so many different types of tea in my cupboard, I love the Black Adder tea, it has a licquorice flavour, very sweet tasting without any sugar so if I'm feeling like something sweet that what I go for.
We get around 1,198mm of rain per year Deb.

  28. Well just woke up the whole room here, my console partner had a small seizure and fell out on the floor....thank goodness this time it was on his butt....lots of padding there but it surely made everyone jump up (fastest I have seen them move in months)....he is alright though, took more of his meds.

Posted 7 months ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  29. Jan, now that tea sounds interesting, I like licquorice and need to get away from using sugars of which I am addicted too in some things.
