Happy HOWL-O-WEEN 2011 cafe!

(58 posts)
  1. WooooOOOOOOOooooooOOOOOooo!

Black cats and witches are fixin' the Samhain/Halloween goodies this morning!

Ghoulish howls and moans come from spirits of long past times, and the black kittens scamper behind tombstones and crypts in the haunted cemetery out back of the cafe as wisps of mist tease and taunt and tug at wee kitten tails!

Come inside where it's warm and dry, but the spookiness continues! There's ghosties and goblins and werekittens galore this morning!

Anything goes today! Spooky scrambled eggs, eerie omelettes, terrifying tea and chillin' coffee....weird waffles and oh oh oatmeal, howlin' hominy and grinnin' grits...

  4. Morning, Sio & GD. Thanks for the fun cafe, Sio :)

I'm off work this week but we're not going anywhere for obvious reasons & I have tons of chore-type things to do, blah. Luckily the weather looks pretty good for the week.

Whoops, hi AV! You sneaked in while I was typing.

  11. BOO to you, JeanKit and Dee!!! Cute knock, knock, Dee :)

  12. Boo! I mean, HI! Fun cafe! Travel is a bit nightmarish - had to travel up the mountain so I could get down the mountain - roads are closed everywhere. Most schools are closed around here - ironic; it's probably one of the few days most kids want to come to school!
I'm going to have an eerie omelette dripping with melted cheese and a glass of blood-orange juice.

  13. Comet wore his warlock hat for a while this morning. He looked really cute and didn't even mind it. I will try putting a pink poofy antennae headband on Leela later (yeah, good luck with that one, Joan!).

Posted 6 months ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

  14. LOL thinking of Joan trying to antennaeize Leela.....probably with as much success as I would have with Luna, the little greased piglet...

  15. Lol at the kitty costumes!.......... Abby and Cuddles absolutely will not tolerate any such thing............. however, both girls wear their 'collars' like jewelry!

............. working from home today, trying hard to be productive, but the temtation to snuggle with a Siamese purrball is overwhelming ;)

  20. sitting at the office, about to go to my next class. It's a bit cold for me today but I took over the captioners office since no one else was here and cranked the heat way up :) so right now I'm happy. I was wearing horns but my boss just did my hair so that I can go to a costume contest after I leave my internship at the hospital tonight so I took them off. Can't wear then at the hospital anyway because it might trigger the kids with schizophrenia. They have enough problems telling what is real poor dears :-/ Cross your fingers for me tonight there's a 50 dollar gift card as the prize :D

  23. Check out Champ on the main page - you'll be glad you did - Happy Halloween!

Yeah, I'm not really "feeling it" at "that place". Schools are closed, phones are down & server is down. Looks like I will be filing this afternoon, yuk - my weakness. Will try to turn it into something positive by getting distracted by these short, dark fingernails, black rings and spider ring (& my cute Hello Kitty bracelet). I also wore a black sweatshirt that has black cats framed in electric blue in a jack-o-lantern patch and a creepy spider pin that looks like it's moving because it's made of lots of "diamonds".

I channeled my inner kid yesterday and made a snow witch. She's totally ugly, and her fat snowy butt sits on our outside table. Her eyes, nose, crooked teeth and buttons are made of rocks since the fireplace was already going. I made the top of her head cone shaped so that her witch's had doesn't blow off. I wanted to use creepy, ugly sticks for her hands but they're buried in snow. Not leaving her alone with my authentic black 100 year old broom; she might wake and take it out for a ride (a la "Frosty the Snowman"). Besides, I'm the only one who rides it! I emailed a pic to Channel 12 News - if it shows up on line I'll let you know!

  26. The Groupon Guide to: Halloween History

12 AD: The first Halloween occurs when a frightened cluster of druids throws handfuls of candy to distract a roving band of ravenous moor children.

1931: Fearing competition from other sugared treats and holidays, The Coca-Cola Company teams up with Santa Claus to kidnap Harold the Halloween Horse.

1955: The most popular Halloween costume of '55 was the scariest monster imaginable, a handsome movie star concealing secret Communist sympathies. The second-most popular costume—cowboy?

1987: New York Post columnist Whitley Gravers eviscerates the growing commercialism of Halloween in a scathing editorial, referring to it alternatively as "Hollow-ween" and "Shallow-ween."

1996: Alarmist parents warn their children not to take any apples from strangers, as they may contain the sophomore album Razorblade Suitcase by British grunge rockers Bush.

2013: Halloween is canceled indefinitely because of terrifying monsters becoming real the previous year, thus making it much less fun for everyone to pretend.

  29. So no sooner did I post earlier when internet went down, then power. Got to go home, yay! That was an adventure, though, detours galore. My big black truck makes for a great target for snowball-toting kids, who have nothing better to do since they're not in school. I was surprised no one tried to snowball me - maybe they like the challenge of hitting small cars.

Birds have discovered the small feeder suction-cupped to our kitchen window - Leela and Comet are enjoying it too! Squirrels can't get to it either. Might have to take it down, though, as the bears aren't hibernating yet.
