  1. YEA!!! The kitties heard me coming, and they are making the move from the cafe to the night shift. The lights are down, leaves are swirling around, and the jazz is playing (or whatever you like, remember it's TDK land!).
KOTSW - the adult special for the evening (I've been waiting all week). Fountains, hot and cold, are flowing with your favorite beverage. Grills are going outside, and the kitties will grill whatever you like. They have been baking and cooking all day so there is an endless supply of every nom you could ever wish for.
    Welcome to Friday evening!

  2. Hi Joan! I need a drink! How about a blueberry martini? What a week it's been and I'm exhausted! Slept 3 times half an hour last night. New asthma inhaler made me kind of shaky and even when the shakiness subsided, I couldn't fall asleep. That stuff is more potent than coffee!

I'm looking forward to the weekend and no dog-sitting , though I've promised to stop by and walk "my" German shepherds on Sunday since their people are going somewhere for the afternoon and don't want to worry about having to rush back to walk them.
I'm working 8-1 tomorrow and then meeting Auntie Ellen for Therapy Sushi - she had to put her old dog to sleep last weekend, so taking her for lunch to cheer her up. Also, XBF and a friend of mine are both playing the pre-qualifier to the tournament in February, so I'll try to get out to watch their matches. Sunday is sleeping in, walking dogs, and having GG over for dinner.

  3. Hi Joan! Hi GD! I'll have a nice, thick steak, perfectly seared and done to medium.

GD - does your inhaler have a steroid component? Is it a 1x or 2x or anytime you need it? If it has a steroid component do try to use it as early as you can depending on your dosing instructions. Steroids can really hype you up! Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

I'm working on a class so I'll try and check in later.

  4. I'm on a pack of steroids for 6 days. The inhaler is the Pro Air kind and I'm supposed to get 2 puffs four times a day. No way am I doing that! Yesterday I only did two puffs at bedtime and that was all it took. The night before I did only one and the breathing was fine, with no wheezing, so think that's all I need. I prefer the Ventolin inhaler I was using before and if I keep getting shaky and having trouble sleeping, I will call Doc and ask him to prescribe me that instead.
Also, I'm hoping once the antibiotics clear up the bronchitis, that I will feel better overall.

  5. Sounds like a nice weekend in store for you. *hands GD a blueberry martini - cheers!* It's like doing almost nothing by your standards! You certainly deserve a break.
I had to get a certified letter from the post office so I had to leave work and go past my house into town - further up the mountain. Interesting how many other people are there at 4:55pm - they close promptly at 5!
Haven't gotten a fire going this evening. It's chilly but not cold, but Leela seems like she would like one. I didn't get home till after dark, though, and the wood pile is all the way in the back yard (it's really dark around these parts!) If I curl up in bed with a book I'm sure she will join me and she will be nice and cozy.

  6. I'm looking forward to the weekend for sure, Joan!

I have a feeling the pet-sitting isn't really my problem, but rather my boys. The attacks only happen at night, when I'm around them and their cat hair. Doc says it's a cumulative effect, but what does he know :)

  7. Make sure you finish ALL your antibiotics!

Okay, NOW I'm going to work on my class :) or should that be :(

  8. GD... to answer your question on Thurs nite shift, about the crock pot. I really do not think you have to worry about the boys messing with it while you are away. Even on low, the exterior is warm, as well as the lid. Not knowing what size you have, I'm assuming all are pretty heavy, as not to be knocked off the counter. You might want to do a supervised test run, to see if the boys are interested in "playing" with it. :)

  9. Thanks, 12p! Mi is very excited about food and I don't trust him - and Bobby is too curious for his own good! I'll cook on Sunday where I will be home a good part of the day.

JBBM, I definitely will finish it all - I'll be done on Monday night. Got Biaxin again. I hate that stuff - leaves the worst metallic after taste!

  10. Hi JJBM & 12P! Sounds yukky GD, but if it helps you it's worth it.
It's crystal clear outside - like you can reach up and pluck a star from the sky - but it's chilly!
I'm so glad to shed the stress of the day/week. I've been trying to stay upbeat and turn negatives to positives, but it sure takes a lot of energy to do that. It's great to come home to Leela and Comet.

  11. Hi all!:)
GD, I cannot leave my crockpot unattended cause of my Gavin. He will NOT leave anything alone. If he knows there is food there, forget it! He even tried drinking out of my pot on the stove before it was too hot cause he knew broth was in there. I have to put it behind closed doors. But, I don't have it on while not at home. Too worried... I AM a worry wort you know!
I was SO excited as I found DARK choc covered cherries at a store tonight! They can be really difficult to find. My daughter LOVES them! I just had a few. Mmmmm.....

  12. Hi Joan!!!! I love hearing about your kitties and your cozy fire. Too bad I don't live closer as I'd love to come visit and sit with you and soak up the warmth. LOL Are you gonna make stew this weekend? I read where everyone was talking about it. YUM!

Posted 6 months ago by bumblebee #

  13. Hmmm, I have a couple of baby gates, maybe that'll do the trick as I have no door to the kitchen.

Posted 6 months ago by GD #

  14. Hi Bumblebee! If you're ever in Jersey... :)
Might make a beef stew, mmm!

  15. Joan!!!!!! So sorry i'm late for our KOTSW date! Went to dinner, just got home..
... do I need to catch up?

Posted 6 months ago by AV #

  16. Hi AV!!!!! What did you have for dinner? Yesterday, I ate soup I made from my leftover chicken and dumplins. Just added some things to it. Delish. I sure got a lot of meals from that one pot of goodies. :)

  17. Hi AV! *slides giant KOTSW with extra stuffed olives* How was dinner?

Posted 6 months ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

  18. Friday???? Really????? Okay, time to put on Windi's favorite robe, scrunch down with Mr. WWM, watch a movie and go to bed. AND, if Willow will cooperate, I am NOT getting up at 0-Dark-Thirty to get her breakfast!!! I am soooo tired and my ankle is burning and I'm packing it in for tonight!

  20. Hey now, WWM, be nice to miss Willow!

Posted 6 months ago by GD #

  21. Yeah, I'm not going to see o'dark thirty. My kits don't know about breakfast - as long as there are crunchies in the bowl, they help themselves if they're hungry. Comet will get up and eat, but Leela usually sleeps in till I get up or if Comet bugs her too much.

  25. Taking a break from my class. Passed first exam but the second part of the class is HARD (not to mention BORING).

CSBM: I know there is a super easy recipe for monkey break using biscuit dough, brown sugar and nuts. I'll have to see if I can find it for you. Careful with your sugar, though!

Posted 6 months ago by Jetta and Boo Boo's Mom #

  26. Lots of carb and tons of sugar. Yep it is wonderful--really suprised that you don't have a problem with it though.

  27. Monkey Bread

    Ingredients:

    4 cans refrigerated biscuits
    1 cup packed brown sugar
    1 1/2 sticks butter (3/4 cup)
    1/2 cup white sugar
    2 Tablespoons cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins (these are optional, it's great with or without them)

    Directions:

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9-10 inch tube pan.

    2. Mix white sugar and cinnamon in a medium sized plastic bag. Cut the biscuits into halves or quarters and place six to eight biscuit pieces in the sugar cinnamon mix. Shake well.

    3. Arrange pieces in the bottom of the greased pan. Continue layering until all the biscuit pieces are coated and in the pan. If you are using raisins, place them among the biscuit pieces as you are layering.

    4. In a small saucepan, melt the butter with the brown sugar over medium heat. Boil for 1 minute. Pour over the layered biscuits.

    5. Bake for 35 minutes. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a plate. Pull apart and enjoy!
