It's a lovely Sunny Sunday in TDK land. In one area, windows are open as a gentle breeze flows in, and a gentle fire burns in the fireplace in another.
Kitties have been baking and cooking your favorite noms all morning; it smells wonderful! Fountains are flowing and kitties are looking for hoomans to play with and relax with.
Welcome!

Morning, Joan! Hope you're well.
I had a busy day yesterday, working, meeting a friend for lunch, grocery shopping and then going to watch a buddy of mine play in a tennis tournament. It was a long match which didn't finish till about 9:00.
Was going to try and sleep in this morning, but it didn't work. Woke up at 4:30 and was mostly awake from then. Though I used the inhaler early yesterday and only took one puff, it's still messing with my sleep :(
So far today I've been to Panera, taken Bobby outside, straightened up and swept and mopped the floor. Going to walk the dogs around 1:00, then going to watch my friend's second round match. Then it's home to cook for GG coming over tonight.
Right now I'm hanging out with a cup of coffee for an hour and relaxing. -
Hi GD! Sorry the sleep pattern is messed up for you. Hopefully when you finish the meds tomorrow it will level out.
My duo are now crashed on the couch, (not next to each other of course, he's on the couch and she's on the top) where the sun is coming thru. Earlier they were both sitting at the back door. Do they suddenly think they are outdoor kitties??Posted 6 months ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

Here it is cold and very foggy. I have both fires blazing and a chicken roasting in the oven, surrounded by potatoes and swede, with an onion as well. Oh yes, and I stuffed the chicken with sausage meat. It's slow roasting, so it will be ready when DD gets home from work.
She is working for a "Homecare" company, caring for the elderly, infirm or vulnerable in their own homes, so they won't have to go into a care home. It's hard work, but she seems to be enjoying it so far.
I'm sitting in front of the fire with pickle on the floor next to me. We are both listening to the radio.Posted 6 months ago by Pollys_Mum_in_UK_2605 #

Nothing like a fire, something yummy roasting, and a kitty on a cold foggy day.

Which reminds me - it's kitty tea-time. 6.00pm.
Have to catch Pickle, bathe the wound on her face, swab my scratches ;-) and then feed them.

Nooooo, what happened to Pickle's face? :(
As for the meds, I will have to keep using the inhaler, and that's what's making me unable to sleep. I will be done with the steroids and antibiotics for bronchitis tomorrow night. Hopefully once I get used to using the inhaler, I'll be less affected by it's side effects.

Good luck with the bathing of Pickle, I had to do that last night with Kitty....what a fun time to be had by all!
Morning everyone, sitting looking at my computers files, all my pictures that were saved are now gone :( Will have to find and reload them again, what a pain.

Just when I think I have a squirrel-proof bird feeder...
It's suctioned cupped to the kitchen window and the birds love it. (Leela and Comet love it too!) The squirrel is able to jump up to the window and if he can get a good grip, he can get to the feeder. I'll move it up this evening, but for now, I poured oil on the outside window frame. Hopefully that will fix his wagon!Posted 6 months ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

LOL @ Joan................... *sigh*........ those squirrels are trickey characters!
.......... beautiful Sunday today, I hope everyone can enjoy some nice fall weather (even if my fall is still almost 80 degrees :)
......... oh, a roasting chicken sounds lively, Mr. AV took me out to lunch at a BBQ place, so I doubt I'll eat anything but some soup for dinner..........

Don't know how Pickle injured herself, probably fighting. It looks a bit like a burst abscess, and that is usually the result of a cat bite/scratch. My friend the vet said keep bathing it with warm salty water until it heals. She only needs to go to the vet if it starts looking nasty. At the moment it looks clean ...
As for squirrels - look at this

I dont understand - we dont have squirrles - why do you guys try to keep the squirrels away? I'd be putting up feeders & nesting boxes in the trees specially for the squirrels? Obviously there is something about squirrels you guys know that I dont. Do they breed like rabbits?
-
PM, hope that the abcess heals quickly and well. Red's is barely noticeable anymore after the surgery on his (it burst badly on his back).
Skyron, squirrels are a tricksters for sure, they are experts at stealing birds food. Sometimes they cause damage to peoples houses (thru the roof, under the house, etc.) and even their cars (nesting in the engine area, eating thru cables/wires, etc.). They can be entertaining though.

Lol on the squirrel videos! Sky, they are totally adorable, and my dad affectionately called them tree rats, but their tummies are bottomless pits - they will empty a feeder in one sitting. I buy black oil sunflower seed, which fatten birds for the winter, and it's expensive. A squirrel can get food easier anyway - they eat whatever the birds spill to the ground. My feeder is kind of small, so I'm getting little birds. Leela loves them!
Comet, at the moment, is on the couch snoring louder than hubby!Posted 6 months ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

PM...I think I can smell the lovely vapors of your kitchen from here in California. I adored the videos. It's hilarious how persistant they can be. Sometimes the yard here looks like that just trying to keep the neighbor's cat from coming & stealing the food for mine. Their eating upwards of about 8-10 lbs. of kibble alone of my cats food. I'm going broke from them. I wish the neighbors would feed & care for their own animals. :(
PM...can I come for dinner? It sounds so good & I could Really use the time away. :)

Sigh, I can't sleep because I have a sinus headache from the underworld :(

Everyone is always invited to eat here. The benefits of internet chicken is that the bird grows with the number who want to eat....
I must say, it was good.

..... I'll be right through the wormhole, PM!....... watch out, you may end up with a 2-ton bird, if all TDKers showed up! LOL
..... Sky, squirrels are like tree rats with fuzzy tails......... they breed like rabbits, have an insatiable appetite, and will eat not only birdseed, the cat's food, but your plants, tomatoes, spices, they LOVE nuts, and tons of other stuff.......... like Joan said, they will chew their way in your attic, gnaw on the insulation, and generally cause a number of pest-type problems.......... everytime it seems Mr. AV would 'rehome' one, two would take it's place........... I have made pets of some that I found as abandoned babies, or injured and nursed back to health, but they are not to be encouraged to come feed, cause they will literally eat you out of house and home!

Good morning/afternoon Cafe'ites.
It a lovely warm Monday but a tad overcast at times and our hot strong winds are still with us.
PM, just catching up on Pickle and her wound, poor Pickle. Sending Healing Energy for her. Mmmmmmmmmm, your dinner sounds delightful. I must say I've never roasted swedes, I love them cooked with carrots and mashed with a dab of butter. I must try roasting them next winter. Feel free to swap your cold foggy weather for warm & windy anytime PM.Posted 6 months ago by Moonshadow_NZ #

Hello!
It was supposed to rain today, but ended up being a lovely day. Too bad I had to work...... LOL
My mom would mix mashed rutabaga(swedes)with mashed potatoes as my dad loved them, when I was young. Just sometimes. My mom made the BEST mashed potatoes too. Mmmmm.... Have to say she was a great baker and cook. Made bread and pie crusts, etc. from scratch. I do too. Out of the three of us sisters, I stuck with it the longest. -
Hi everyone! {{{Pickle}}} PM, your cyber-chicken was fabulous!
It's time for me to make the transition into the w-week. I try to plan my wardrobe and paperwork/chores accordingly; I run most errands on my lunch break or after hours as most of my business is down the valley. Once I'm on the mountain, it's where I want to stay!
As Bumblebee said, it was a beautiful day! Now there are billions of stars out and there's a bit of a chill in the air so I got a fire going. Leela appreciates it and has taken her royal place in front of it.
Oh, I moved the birdfeeder higher up the window. It may turn out worse, however, because if the squirrel is quick, it can bounce from the window and jump up to the feeder - the weight will probably pull it down, we'll see. Since I greased up the window, however, maybe the critter won't be able to get a footing.Posted 6 months ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

My elerly neighbor and friend that I used to share goodies with, rest his soul, :( and passed away, had told me he loved mashed turnips with potatoes and I promised to make him some on the next holiday. His mom would make them for him. The older he became the more his missed his Mama. Awwww.... I never got the chance though and I feel so sad about it. Hope he got some in Heaven.
-
.... I make a mash from roasted carots, parsnips, turnips and butter nut squash........... I chunk them, mix olive oil/salt/pepper, and roast them 400 for about 25-35 min. until very tender........ then I mash them wish butter and a dallop of marcapone and a grate of fresh nutmeg................ oh so YUMMY!!!!!....... same mash would work by boiling them in a good stock, but roasting gives it that nice roasted flavor!
-
Wow. Um, I usually make what Mom calls "plastic" potatoes, lol. *hangs head* Instant potatoes with cheese. Making "real" potatoes for Thanksgiving, though!
