  1. My 81 year old uncle got pulled over by the police, whilst driving his invalid scooter. He had been reported by a minicab driver, for refusing to be bullied off the road.
When he pointed out to the police that he was taxed and insured as a road user the police apologised and sent him on his way. It could only happen to him. He's a legend! (I wish it had been for speeding - he would have loved that!)

  2. Deb, they don't proofread them more carefully because they probably fired all their copy editors, figuring a machine could do their job (sorry, but it's true). And it costs because Craiglist took away most of the classified ads, so they have to make money on the ones that are left. It stinks, but that's the world of newspapers today.

  3. JK, yep that is my issue with this, I know his kids can't afford it, I don't know his friends and would do it mostly for my Dad and brothers. Heck I don't really know my brother as we didn't talk much for the last couple of decades (yes I know that is sad) so other then word of mouth from Dad and the family I have no real idea of his life today. Lol, like the letter to the editor idea though!

  4. Sun's out! Too bad it's still cold (brrr).

Got a lot done over the weekend, but I had to skip on the all-important Naptimes Wif The Kittehs. That's ok, though, I got some Christmas gifts done and made myself a liner for my favorite basket.

  6. Deb, so sorry about your brother. Writing obits is so hard. I wrote the one for my brother in March and then for my mom in April. How do you sum up a life in a few paragraphs.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm headed to the family homested on Wednesday and can't wait to be surrounded by my nieces and their kids, cook with my sister, hang out with my friends and be reminded that I have much for which to be thankful.

  12. Kilroy, I know they don't proofread because of cutting back jobs (like yours):(

So I decided to post it on FB, because actually I don't know how many of his friends read the newspaper anymore. I am going to print a copy of it on nice quality paper and frame it for my Dad (he doesn't do computers and reads the paper religiously everyday).....so here is what I posted, I hope no one minds or is offended.

Steven Michael Flatebo of Bellflower , California , passed away on November 15th, 2011 at the age of 52 after a brief and sudden illness.

Steve lived most of his life in the Southern California area. He had a kind heart and tried to help others when he could. He had many friends from all walks of life and will be greatly missed by family and friends. I still remember the young boy doing Motocross events and cutting so many lawns in the neighborhood.

Steve is survived by his father, Gordy R. Flatebo, siblings Debra Stevenson of Tucson , Danny and Kenny Flatebo of Bellflower and his children, Cheri Row (Chris), Michael Flatebo, Rica Bennett, Teanna Bennett, plus his 3 grandchildren, all in California and numerous nieces and nephews along with extended family members.

Steve was welcomed into Heaven by his loving mother Shirley J Flatebo, who preceded him in death in 2009.

There will be no public funeral service.

  16. Deb, I think that was just perfect. I know your dad will appreciate having a printed copy. My mom still has copies of the obit she wrote for my dad.

  17. I think he will like it, have to find a nice frame for it.

Posted 6 months ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  18. That was lovely Deb. I am sure your dad will appreciate having it framed. do you have a picture of him that you could put in the frame with it?

    Posted 6 months ago by KYKAT 12 23 #

  19. Kykat, I was thinking about that and honestly I don't have a good one. Don't know if there are many pictures of him for the last few years. Might put a childhood picture of him on it though :)
