Good morning Joan! Is it crazy of me to say I'm sick of the very subject of food right now? Mr. K is fussing about the menu for tomorrow (it's just us and stepdaughter #2) and he's driving me nuts. I would be perfectly happy with scrambled eggs & toast at this point.
Sorry, kind of cranky. That place is a really not fun place right now. Oh, and a certain fuzzball bit me on the back of my bare leg last night - ouch!
-
Ouch, Georgie - stop that! Leela clawed me when I tried to pet her this morning, and Comet got the other hand when he got a bit too excited during his morning belly rub.
Hey, scrambled eggs and toast sounds great!I will look for you at the parade tomorrow, lol. Can you hang a sign on the window that says "TDK Furrever"?

Morning Kilroy, didn't get a chance to look @ many kitties today but got a couple of them at least. I hope that Millie was just having an upset tummy day.

You're nobody till you've been shunned by a cat.

Good morning ladies, sorry to hear your kits aren't behaving very well. Maybe the Zoo Crew could put out a guide for getting along! My kits were wonderful and loving this morning, as usual. When all else goes to crap, at least my fuzzbutts are always there of me!

Morning all. Was under the weather this morning so didn't go to w*rk. Up and dressed and feeling better now. The Feliway arrived yesterday and the cats either tonight or tomorrow, so I've got my work cut out for me. I need to call the Butterball Turkey Hotline. Have no clue what I'm doing, I suck at math and it hurts my head to figure out how much time to cook a 20 pound bird (that has been in the fridge since Sunday is NOT thawing!) I'm running out for some soup for me, then back to rearranging my life for those four furr-butts!

Deb, I'm sending my duo thru the wormhole to you so they can interact with NICE kitties! Comet often starts grooming Leela, but then the jaws come out. By the way she screeches, it hurts sometimes!
JBBM - put your turkey in cold water - not warm, it will thaw too quickly. I think it's 15 minutes per pound. Enjoy the soup and feel better.Posted 6 months ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

I'm just amazed at how well the crew will accept new kits! They are always looking to make new friends to play and chase with. Petey and Lucky have become fast friends, Jack is just the most mellow and easy going fellow I've ever met. Bo is still skitish a bit but if I had a video camera I'd love to tape Bo and Marty together. Bo is so into his human that I swear if he were a woman I'd have to do something about him (No, I don't share!! LOL), however it is beyond adorable to see the two of them together!
I plan to take pics this weekend so I will be able to properly introduce my new boys!

That's funny, Linda. Of course I had to go look up Kilroy Realty, and it was actually founded by a guy named John Kilroy - who knew?
Millie was throwing up and being extra wobbly yesterday, but she managed to eat a good dinner & keep it down, so we're hoping it was a temporary thing.
Isn't it nice how we all worry about each other's kits? I suspect we all feel extra protective of Millie, even though we know she's in the best of care.

JBB, you an speed up the defrosting of that turkey.
Either use a very large canner or your sink. Fill it with cold water and put in the bird. Leave it in the packaging :-)
Change the water every 20 minutes.
This really does work. You have to fiddle with water and the bird, but it works.
If you really need to move fast, take the bird out of the packaging, dig out the giblets and put it in that canner or your sink. Run cold water in, and ONLY IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE PUTTING IT IN THE OVEN RIGHT AWAY, add in some hot water and mix everything around in the sink. Change out this water often, don't try the hot water bit unless you absolutely have to. By taking the bird out of the bag and the giblets out of the bird, you're exposing more surface to the defrosting liquid. :-)
DO NOT rely on the popup thingie. Throw it away. Remember to dig inside the bird and remove the packets of giblets and stuff.

oh, poor wee thing, hope she's feeling better soon. and yes it is nice that we worry and care about each other's kittehs!
The car in front of me said it was from Rome NY. I'm too lazy to look it up, do you know offhand?
ok, gotta get SOME work done today. Boss is leaving early so might be back later! If not, hope everyone has a safe and delicious Thanksgiving! I'm excited cause there's Oreo Cookie Pie in my future ;)

If you can stand to get out to the store, go buy a meat probe thermometer, one of those used in the restaurant business. You don't leave it in while the bird cooks. You use it to quickly check the internal temp.
20-25 minutes per pound at 350 is about right. For a 20 pound bird (3 pounds per hour) that's about 6.5 hours. Go for an internal temperature of 145-150 when you take the bird out. Take the bird out of the cooking dish onto a platter and cover it with foil. Let it sit 30 minutes or so. In that time, the internal heat will continue to rise, and the juices will be retained in the bird when you slice it. By the time you're ready to slice the bird (30 minutes or more later) you'll have reached 160 inside and it will be juicy.
NOTE: If you buy a turkey-sized cooking bag (made by Reynolds) you can cut your cooking time by 50%. Yes, you can cut that 6.5 hours down to a little over 3.

Hi Everyone! LOL Siobhan - many years ago I was having Thanksgiving with family friends and they obviously forgot to get the neck and giblets out before stuffing - the stuffing was full of little bones! Yuck!
Still trying to figure out just what we'll have tomorrow - its just me and Mr Rubia this year. It will be nice actually - we can just relax. :-)

Thanks, Joan and thanks, Sio and 2P I will do as you all suggested and thanks, too, for doing the math for me!
I'm in a mood (hormones) so I think I will take a nap.
p.s. Can you love and hate a person in the same heartbeat?

You guys are all so sweet to worry about Millie for me. Unfortunately she threw up again after breakfast (the wet food), almost all down my shoulder but I realised yakkage was imminent so I managed to hold her over the desk instead (not much better but at least not on me). She hadn't even eaten very much of it. (She was fine with her raw meat dinner last night and was having great fun leaping all over the bed.) I did the tent test and she is not dehydrated but if there is any more vomiting she will be going to the V-E-T. Libs has also been a bit snuffly, which is worrying me bacause the vet said to watch out for that, Millie will be shedding virus while she's flaring up and although Libs is vaccinated, she can still be affected. :( Don't they love to worry you, the little furrbutts?

Hope that everyone has a very good turkey day and enjoy whatever you are doing tomorrow.
I will probably be staying home as I seem to be in the middle of an annoying cold with the full sore throat and the voice of a 90 yr old smoker plus the fever to go with it, argh! I wanted to go see Happy Feet 2 tonight but guess that is not in the works now as I am rather selfish about sharing this crud.

Ohhhh little Mills, hope you just have an upset tummy and not sick. Libs hope you feel better soon too and get rid of the snuffly stuff. Afternoon Jane :)

Oh no, poor Millie and Libs!!! Have you ever tried Lysine powder?
Bobby threw up today, but it was my own fault. They had run out of food and he was hungry when I got home and ate too fast :(I think today may have been one of my busiest ever! I'm exhausted, but working till 9:00, walking a dog, feeding a cat, and then going home to my boys. I have soem left-over wine in my fridge that may do the trick tonight. I also have a strained muscle in the back of my knee from trying to hold onto a 92-lb charging German shepherd. Physical therapist says rest (ha!) and ice.
