  1. Thanks, Mo! I haven't done Blur Buffalo since their last recall a few years back almost killed my Bobby :(

  2. Thanks Mo, thank goodness mine won't touch BB food at all.

  3. These are for dry dog food, not cat food and they expired in July. No need for extra worry, just sayin'...

  4. Yes, it is dog food, many on here have cats as well as dogs.

Like Iams latest recall, many are saying that Blue Buffalo is also having a "Silent Recall" or whatever you want to call them. I can not currently find any sites verifying this - but then Iams is also very well hidden - only site really talking about it was truthaboutpetfood.

  5. As a dog-sitter, I definitely am aware of what the dogs I take care of eat, and I always keep my clients up to date if I know of any recalls going on.

  6. Dang, the food I feed my dogs very well might have been recalled. :(

  7. Ditto with Glen Jr's cat food :(

Posted 6 months ago by GD #

  8. Did you guys check the UPC's and Lot #'s listed for the silent recall? That way you know for sure.

  9. I'm going to check tonight when I get to GG's. I 'm familiar with checking lot and UPC numbers from when Bobby got sick from Blue Buffalo four years ago :(

Posted 6 months ago by GD #

  10. Good GD! Let me know..... Have fun at GG's!!

Posted 6 months ago by bumblebee #

  11. Ah so wait, even tho its not posted , cat food may be part of the bb recall as well?

  12. When my Bobby got sick from Blue Buffalo, he got sick a couple of days before the product was recalled. At least in the case of the melamine contaminated food back then, several brands and flavors were added to the recall list after it first came out. Doesn't mean that'll happen this time, but my advice is to check the recall lists every day for the next couple of weeks, just to be safe.

  13. Just saying, my older kitty refuses to eat anything besides "crappy" Friskies... and lo and behold, one of the worst quality foods hasn't been recalled according to that list...

  14. I don`t still have the bag,I am going to look for the receipt and see if any info on it.

Posted 5 months ago by Buttercup #

  15. ULICHKA4: Friskies has many other issues though. Just look at the ingrediants of their dry food. It contains lots of "red flag" ingredients (all things best to stay away from):

Ground yellow corn, chicken by-product meal, brewers rice, corn gluten meal, wheat flour, beef tallow preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), soybean meal, ocean fish meal, animal liver flavor, salt, added color (Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 2 and other color, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity).

Just my two cents - I've seen the results of feeding poor quality food - Wilda & Hortense are two examples.

Edit to ad: Friskies dry had a recall in 2011 for salmonella. There have been many complaints about it as well (not resulting in recalls) including the death of some cats blaimed on their canned food.

  16. Well, thank goodness GG listened to me while at the store and went for the Indoor Iams and not the original and recalled one! I'm keeping an eye one the recall list, but so far, looks like he's safe.

  17. You know you guys....I have nothing against you giving your opinions of what you consider to be good food but sure don't appreciate the bashing of other brands. I've been feeding Friskies canned to my cats all their lives. I've got one still living at 19 yrs. old. And 2 of the last 3 I lost were going on 17 yrs. old. And some of them were fed Friskies dry the first5 yrs. of their lives.
Who's to say what's not good for 1 cat is not good for them all? And look at the recalls. Iams is/was suppose to be a high-quality food at one time. I'm just saying I feel bad enuf not being able to do more for my cats than I do. I sure don't need to hear all the garbage about what I'm feeding them now. Could you just lighten up alittle,Please? Friskies is not all that bad.

    Nothing personal...

  18. Feral, my older kitty has been on Friskies canned for 16 years of her life and still going, and refusing to eat anything else lol.

However, that being said, I'd like to know what the issue was with cats dying from Friskies canned food Mo?? I'd like to be educated in that respect.

  19. My boys and Glen eat canned Friskies, too :)

Posted 5 months ago by GD #

  20. It's gotten to the point where I'm so afraid to feed them anything. I think sometimes they'd be better off dieing young from natural causes.
I have an occasional yack-up to clean up but it's usually from being a little too rich for their tummy (& if I feed it to them in the am rather than pm meal). I've had 1 here or there even yack up Fancy Feast. They also prefer Friskies to anything else, except their crunchies or treats.

Okay....I'm feeling lots better knowing I'm not the only one feeding my brood Friskies canned.

  21. Feral, ours eat Friskies canned pate with some Fancy Feast thrown in. The ingredient list is headed by meat/meat by-products. No wheat/corn. It is a compromise- what we can reasonably afford to feed multiple cats. I have neither unlimited time nor money and live in a city so my choices are somewhat circumscribed- I could, of course, get rid of some cats and feed the remaining one more expensive food- but, we make compromises.

I never pretended that my cats have a perfect life. They would love more attention, an outdoor cat enclosure, and homemade food. Instead, they get food, shelter, medical care and some affection. Better than the millions of cats killed in shelters...

  22. KC...you are so right!! If they only understood we were doing it all for them tho. You worded your comments perfectly to what I feel about mine kits & my situation. Thank You. :)

  23. I was talking about the Friskies dry ingredients - the wet is much better (especially carb wise).

Above are links to some of the reports of Friskies canned food being possibly linked to some cats dying. Both have the original owner who reported her cats death posting on them.

Sorry, not much time atm to reply.

  24. We have gone through this debate more than once on TDK. It has caused people to not return as they come looking for help not to be condemned for what they feed. I pray that no one feels that they are doing anything less than the best for their cats. We do the very best that we can, may we learn to support and help each other and not condemn--I'd like to not see anyone else hurt because of a simple misunderstanding.

  25. Thank you Mo, I do appreciate you taking the time to research things and share the info. I admit I take what I can and use it the best way I can adapt it to the crew's fussiness at times.

  26. Regarding the recall:

It seems to have been assumed by MANY that Blue was having a recall due to the issues others are having with the chicken jerky treats that are sourced from China. Here is Blue's explanation: http://bluebuffalo.com/news/blue-chicken-jerky-dog-treats

Posted 5 months ago by Mo #

  27. That helps a lot Mo, my daughter was feeding those treats to her pups and I sent her the info on the problems.

  28. Just want to set things right....I should've put some LOL's or 'JK' or something in my original post. I in no way disagree w/any form of feeding anyone has here. If I had the time,I would attempt to 'raw feed' my kits. I doubt they would go for it tho. Too spoiled on the 'junk food'. lol

Mo...I've said it before...I'm so grateful for all the hrs. I know you must spend on researching all you do. Your info has been a tremendous help for me w/my kits. And Thank You for the update on the Blue Buffalo scare.

  29. Soxsmom...I don't believe there are any problems or debates going on here. No one is lashing out at one another. We're simply chatting about about what we feed our furkids. No fur flying going on here & no one wanting to leave.
