  1. For what it's worth, my emergency bag contains:

    Passport
Bank account numbers, checkbook, and cash
Recent phone bill and bank statement: These are better proof of residence than government documents, because you can list any residence on those.
CD with copies of major documents from my computer; photos, including those for insurance purposes; scanned copies of my passport and ID and a recent property tax bill.
Copies of prescriptions and doctor's contact info, photocopy of health insurance card
    Homeowner's insurance information
List of all possible personal emergency contacts

  3. Great list, Ann! It would sure make more sense to have those things rather than the clean underwear.

And I will start looking into who can scan pictures for me.

  6. But it is pretty lame when you are madly throwing clean underwear in a bag but forget stuff like medicine! And kitty food - ack!

  8. Glad you are safe, WWM. What a scary ordeal! Good idea Instinct, to do the CD's in a safe deposit box for the papers and photos. Grab some clothes and the cats and run.

Berkeley has always been known as Bezerkely since the 70's as that is where all the nut jobs seem to congregate. I have never liked the area and when given an opportunity to go work at UC Berkeley, I took the job but ended up quitting after a week of commuting to the campus. It was the summer where it was 100 degrees outside for three weeks and UC Berkeley only air conditions the lab buildings. I would have been suffering inside an office all day in that kind of heat! No thank you!!

  9. Years ago when I was living in Calistoga, there was a fire that came within a 1/4 mile of our country hilltop home which had the wind shifted just a bit out home would have been ashes. When we considered how unprepared we were we immediately created a nice compact..'Take This Box In Case Of Emergency'...It held very closely the things mentioned by Ann above. Some records we simply placed in our safety deposit box at the bank.
