Introducing Maggot-RIP

(16 posts)
  1. Hello everyone, I just wanted to introduce our loving Maggot, who after 21 years old, is no longer with us. As you can read in her bio, she first belonged to my husband's late wife. We live in the country and she was an inside/outside cat, but in spite of her age, she was in excellent health, although the last year, she appeared to be getting a little slower and arthritis was a big issue. She just disappeared one day and we never did find her. She usually stayed very close to the house in the later years. We searched the field and never did find out what ever happened to her.

I just had to share with you what a beauty she was. When she was a kitten, no one would come up with a name for her and so my husband named her Maggot!!!

  2. It's hard not knowing exactly what happened. I have to assume Maggot has gone over the rainbow bridge. Cats have an eerie sense of when their time here is over and often hid away. Maggot had a long life and it's obvious that she was well-loved. You'll see her again over the bridge.

  3. She was really a beauty wasn't she? Lovely coat.

  4. PJ..Maggott was very pretty..It is very difficult to lose an animal when they just disappear suddenly. We lost our mamma meezer that way last Sept. and more and more I suspect she may have bumped into the wrong coyote down at the creek near us. Thanks for sharing her lovely picture with us.

  5. What a beauty! Her coat is so lustrous and sleek.

It happens so often, doesn't it, cats knowing when the end is near and finding someplace alone.

  6. Karenopa, that was a possibility about the coyote. We DO have a coyote den far in the back of our land. My husband was out there once walking in the pasture and didn't know it was there and fell into it. There was signs of activity (chicken feathers, bones, etc.). I so hope that is not what happened to her. I want to believe that she just went off and went to Rainbow Heaven.
Since she never went further than the house, and garage, I want the visual
that she just went off and laid down.

She was a beauty, wasn't she?

  7. Cats know when it is their time to go over the Bridge and they hide. I once read that they feel the "Angel of Death" around, so they try to hide from him. My Missy hid under my bed the night she died, I knew when I found her under there why she was there and at that point there was nothing I could do.

  8. That must be true about them sensing the "Angel of Death". I think that is why when her first Mom, Liz was in her last stages of her disease, she wouldn't have anything to do with her.

  9. Oh, Maggot - you truly are beautiful! Your name must have been given in endearment!

  10. It was. My husband has funny nicknames for our babies. He called Punkin, "Worm" and Pebbles, "Fuzzy Worm". Thumper's real name before us was "Fat Girl", and he named her Thumper because she kept thumping the patio door from outside as Pebbles was thumping from the inside. So far, he hasn't given Crybaby an indearing name, I am sure she will get one, though. Maggot got her second name from our neighbor, who always called her "Bear".

  12. Maggot looks alot like my first kitty, Whiskers. Russian Blue coloring with faint rings on her tail. Whiskers had amber eyes with a tink of green in them. RIP Maggot.

  14. PJ, Maggot was beautiful! I can feel your pain and loss. Just know she was loved and loved in return for 21 years! Your other babies are adorable as well. My kitties sent yours an invite.

  15. PJs Mom - Maggot was beautiful! Growing up with kitties who went outdoors, I know about them leaving when know it's their time. Poor Jinx, she was 19 and the paper boy brought her home twice before she finally found a good hiding place to get to The Bridge!

  16. Thank you Joan, she was such a sweetie, and although she had arthritis badly, she got around pretty well, I wish I could do so well.
