Harry my 9 month old kitten still enjoys his kitten milk (the milk for really young kittens) is it still ok to give him it even though he isn't a young kitten anymore? I feed him wet food and he doesn't drink much water, he has fresh water everyday but prefers to drink his milk,he is and looks in perfect health with a lovely glossy silky coat.

Kitten milk

Milk won't hurt, I don't understand why people think that milk is so terrible for kitties. I'm from Europe and that's the number 1 diet staple of kitties lol. My kitty who's 16 grew up on milk products and she loveeees them, she's constantly asking for milk, sour cream, farmers cheese, etc. I'm sure your kitty will be fine and happy drinking it, I say if he wants it he needs it so keep giving it to him

I have heard of people giving nursing queens kitten milk replacer for extra calories and calcium. My only concern would be the calories; in moderation it should be fine, but you do not want him to get fat, or replace eating nutritionally-complete food with milk.
Ulichka4, most mammals (including cats) lose their ability to digest lactose as they grow up. So milk leads to diarrhea, gas, vomiting...Zappo used to lick out my husband's cereal bowls, but eventually his system counldn't handle it and he would vomit afterwards. He didn't get the connection though and would keep begging for the empty bowls...When Polly was off her feed, though, and I was trying to get her to eat anything, the vet said that milk was okay as long as it didn't make her sick.
So every morning, the three cats follow me downstairs for a splash of (cows') milk when I put it in my coffee. I am sure that Willow wonders why I am adultering perfectly good milk with that bitter stuff!
