She was barely eating and drinking and it seemed as though the smell of food made her vomit so back to the vet we went. I nearly cried because when she was put on the examining table she got as close to me as she could and held on. She is not a cuddler. She had lost more weight and was dehydrated so they gave me a crash course on giving her fluids and a shot for nausea. Its amazing what you can do when you have to. She is getting fluids once a day and a shot twice a day. She is also taking her pills ( I hope they are getting where they should go) and I have bandaged fingers. LOL I got a pill gun after she drew blood. I also got high calorie nutrition dense food and instructions in how to feed her if I have too. I fed her yesterday morning but she has been eating on her own since then and it is better because it is my day off today so I have been able to offer her food often and she is eating. She even asked to be fed once so I am hoping that things are going to be OK.

I'm glad she is doing better! Poor Tessie. I'm sure she didn't mean to bite or scratch. She just didn't feel well. How sweet that she cuddled against you when you took her to the vet. Sounds like she is getting her appetite back. Please keep us posted, Sandi. Sending the healing TDK white light for Tessie!!

KW, I understand perfectly why she bit me. If someone help me down, pried my mouth open and started forcing pills in I'd bite too. I will admit she has been the hardest animal I have ever given medication too but I take comfort in the fact that she is such a fighter.

Susie, I got it from the vet. It was 2.50 I believe. I wouldn't be suprised if Pet Smart would have them, though. It made it a lot easier once I got it. One morning she hid at the time I was to give her pills. It made me feel really bad.

Sandi..Poor Tessie..She's such a pretty cat. I'm glad she's feeling a little better. Everytime I turn around there's a new gadget for giving liquids and pills. I'm glad this pill gun did the trick. Please keep posting to keep us informed and I'll send prayers and healing light to Tessie that she continues to get well.

Oh, poor Tessie! I hope they figure out what's wrong with her soon! In the meantime, I'm glad she's feeling better! Sending purrs, headbonks, hugs and healing energy! {{{HUGS}}}

She woke up cheerful and with more energy than I've seen for a while. She did a lot of her normal morning activities even got excited when I poured some dry food in the dish and ran to see what it was and ate a bite or two. She also had kitty treats with her pills but is acting indifferent to the high quality canned food I have been giving her. I don't know if she got up during the night and ate or not. Since I am home today I am just watching and if I have to I can feed her. Yesterday she ate the best about noon

Yay, go Tessie! All of my cats have cuddled up at the vets (except Pickle, who purrs and washes the vets hand!). You're right about what we can do when we have to - I was terrified of giving Titch insulin injections, but in no time at all it became second nature. Tessie sounds like she's doing much better, love, hugs and scritches to you both xx

I am so glad Tessie is doing better. That is so sweet that she took comfort in your presence at the Vet by moving closer to you and held on to you. My first cat Whiskers, would move as close as possible to me and would tuck her head in the crook of my arm.
Sylvester at first doesn't like the vet's office but after a few minutes he wants just wants to explore.

Sandi, I hope Tessie keeps improving! The first time I gave a shot I cried. But the cat, Isis, took it like a trooper and even came when called because she got her favorite treat as a reward.
Have you tried wrapping her in a towel for the pills? I use that technique with the pill pusher. I also cover the pill in butter - tastes better and slides down easier. But even still, I've found pills on the floor.
Good luck! -
I've tried the towel and she hates it. The butter is a good idea. I'll try that. She has settled down a little for the pills I think she has accepted no choice. The fluids and shots haven't been a problem although I'm sure I'm clumsy. I think she knows I'm trying to help her even though she has to fight it.

Your braver than I am Sandi. I faint at the sight of needles. That stems from having shots into my scalt to stop my hair from falling out from Alopecia Areata(stress related). Such a big name for hair loss, huh? So you don't use the pill gun every time you have to give her one? I do know they hate anything that makes them gag.
-
I do use the pill gun everytime. Its still a fight but my fingers are a little safer. she is pouting right now because I gave her fluid and a shot. It was the last shop so I hope the nausea has disappeared. If she eats and drinks fairly good I can quit with the fluid.

It seemed like Tessie would take two steps forward and then one step backward in her recovery process--it helped me not worry quite so much when I realized that. She is getting back to her old bouncy self definitely has has her interest in food back and is going to be so spoiled. I don't usually feed on demand but have been with her because I want her to get well. She finishes her course of steroids on Tues so I am going to call the vet tomorrow for more advice on what comes next. She gave me more pills than she prescribed so I think she thinks it is enflamed intestines and I really don't want her to get so sick again so I want to be on top of it.

Molly hisses at Tessie everytime she sees her. They have always been good friends so I hate to see that destroyed. Do you think Molly is jealous of Tessie, (Tessie has been getting a lot of attention and Molly has always been my baby) making a bid to be alpha cat, or just acting like a spoiled brat. What can I do

Molly has seen me give her fluids and shots so maybe she is afraid that she'll be next. LOL Of course, then I think she would be hissing at me . . .

Sandi, the hissing probably won't last long. Pickle & Button were sisters, and best of friends...then we introduced them to the great outdoors. Button loved it, Pickle was terrified, and hated the feeling of grass under her feet. Pickle then started hissing at Button, and it was because she smelled of outdoors. Tuna and toys helped us overcome this, but it was a rather upsetting couple of weeks, as we didn't really know what we were dealing with. (btw, Pickle now loves outdoors, daft cat!!)

Your Pickle story is cute. I started reminiscing about my cats and going outside. Patches didn't mind going outside but if nature called she made a mad rush in to use her litter box. She did that her whole life--when I first got her it was late fall and she never went outside. When I lived where they could go outside they always went out in the summer but come winter hated the feel of wet and snow and never went out. Now it isn't safe for kitties to be out so they have been discouraged from going out and are scared of the great outdoors.
