  1. Got the info Deb, thanks.

Oh, poor Pickle! I'm so glad she's OK PM, but I hear you on the vet bills. Hope she mends well and with no further surgery or anything like that.

  2. Hi PM - yikes you had quite a holiday! Glad Pickle is on the mend. I feel your pain with vet bills; Leela has been to the vet twice for non-routine things within the last 4 months and I don't have pet insurance either.
    Hope MIL is doing better.

  3. Husband says MIL is much better.

I am now investigating pet insurance for Pickle.

  4. No pet insurance here either and chipping away at bills for the crew.

Glad that your M-I-Love is doing better.

Not to be morbid or anything but I found this to be such a well written article and it says how I want to be treated at the end of things when that comes....

  5. Good article. Yes, big difference between "do everything" and "do everything that's reasonable".

  6. Great reminder Deb for many of us. Yup, when my sis was ailing she made her wishes known and the medical staff obliged. Wonderful "angel" staff as hospice help were a blessing too!
On a lighter note...kits are rummiging in cupboard for old uneaten fruitcake for it is National Fruitcake Toss Day...one, two, three...weeeeee....tosssss, thud!!!

  7. Nice thud, JK! *2 kittens attempt to pick up the fruitcake... arrrgggh! Nope. Here comes a 3rd to help!*

  8. NOooooooooo not the National Fruitcake Toss Day....whatever will I do for a doorstop! Lol!!

  9. I love fruitcake. We have about 2/3 of the Christmas cake I made left, but it will last for a good while yet because of the way it was made. I love it with a slice of really strong cheddar. It makes a wonderful "pudding" or I eat it for tea, when I'm at home at the right time for tea. It's too rich to eat too much at a time. I must admit I love the home-made almond paste and royal icing as well. The icing isn't too sweet because I put the juice of a whole lemon into it. That also stops the icing from going rock hard ...

PM, now I never have tried it with anything else but the cheddar sounds good.

  11. mmm...?cheddar...did someone mention cheddar? Anything tastes better with cheddar as CHEESE! Oh noo, fruitcake is a goner but there is some cheddar along with other cheese as treats the fridge!!!

  12. I love fruitcake from the Claxton company in Georgia. Love it with a cup of tea. It's a good thing that it is only available for a few weeks during the year, or I could get myself in big trouble!

Deb, I have personal reason to be grateful that the UK has eased quarantine restrictions. My friend Pamela had to move back to Scotland earlier this year and had to leave her beloved yellow lab behind back here in the states. A massive fundraising campaign took place and last month, with the eased quarantine requirements coming, Pamela made her goal. Bonnie gets to fly to Scotland on the 24th and will be immediately reunited with her hoomin! It is still expensive to fly her home, but not nearly as much as it would have been if she then had to be quarantined for several weeks.

  13. Kykat, thought about your friend when I read that article, so nice that Bonnie will be able to fly and reunite with her :)

  14. Hi, Everyone! *sssshhhh* I'm supposed to be finishing my Christmas thank you notes so don't tell anyone that I'm actually goofing off. I have such a short attention span! And of course I had to check and see what all of you are up to.

Kilroy, I am so sorry about Georgie. About a million years ago when Mr. WWM and I were first married, we would go and visit his sister and her husband in Omaha. They had a gorgeous Siamese named Tao. But Tao was an evil kitty! You could be sitting there petting him, and he would purr and purr, and then all of a sudden he would get this look and they would say, "Get your hand away - Tao is about to erupt". And woe to the person who didn't get their hand drawn back fast enough. Honestly, I was afraid of that cat. I wish that I had some advice, but we've never had an attack kitty.

Well, back to the grind, I guess. I just have a few more. *focus, focus*

  15. WWM, I totally understand the short attention sp...oooh, a pretty bird just flew by my window!

  16. Mr. K's daughter actually owns the scariest cat I've ever met; we knew her now-husband was serious about her when he tried to make friends with the psycho feline :) She won't give the cat up, though, because she figures nobody else would put up with it & it would be put down.

George is only like this with me, everyone else thinks he's an angel. Guess he's forgotten who got him out of that cage.

  17. I used to own a "killer bunny". Her name was Boot, and even the vet didn't like her much. She used to bite and bunny kick quite ferociously.

We have often had former feral cats whose temperament was uncertain around non-family members. I could never understand it - you tell people "Don't pet the cat she'll bite/scratch you". Their response was so often "She'll be fine with me." and then they used to complain when she bit them...

  18. Just peeking in with one word as...cuuute for just finished checking out the long weekend's Star-kits...thud/coa!
(Kilroy, maybe kit needs some therapy to determine how to remedy agressive personality...just a thought. When Dot was ailing I met a holistic vet that prescribed acpuncture for many different disorders along with other non-invasive techniques for same.)

  19. LOL, Joan!!!

  20. Almost time for bed. Have to get up in time to take Pickle to the vet before I go to work tomorrow.

    Posted 4 months ago by Pollys_Mum_in_UK_2605 #

  21. My hamster was known at the vets as "psycho hamster"! She just wasn't a very friendly little girl. My friend stuck his finger through the cage at her even though we told him not to. and seemed totally shocked when she nipped him!! Hope Pickle feels better soon PM.
