I was thinking about getting a Furminator to groom my semi long haired cat, what's the best type to get? and is it a razor that cuts the hair? If so I don't think I'll get one.

I JUST finished grooming the cats and was wondering the same thing, lesley. Glad you asked. I like my zoom groom and it gets off so much more hair than a brush or mitt. But, hair goes everywhere, making grooming unpleasant for me. So, if anyone responds to the furminator question....does hair fly everywhere while you use it? (I read the tags and they were helpful but I didn't see this addressed.)

I've read a few reviews about the Furminator and they are all good but still want to know if it actually cuts the hair and I agree with you I don't fancy the hair flying everywhere, never heard of a zoom groom I'll google that in a min ECBrown and thanks for the tags Jeankit, hopefully somebody will explain the furminator a bit more in detail.

I have used both the zoom groom and the furminator. The furminator does not cut the hair, it removes the already loose stuff, much of it from the undercoat. It can fly around a bit. I like the zoom groom because you can brush in any direction. The furminator you have to comb/brush only in the direction of the fur.
I have to put the zoom groom up out of reach... I have a chewer ! And she has taken big pieces off. lol -
I LOVE my furminator and so the cats!
ETA: And the could use a session with it and SOON!

So what actually makes this Furmintor such a good product? I checked it out on you tube but I'm not sure about it some of the cats didn't look too happy and looked like the grooming was a bit rough and it was hurting them. Harry isn't a big lover of getting groomed at the best of times his hair is very fine but lots of it especially his tail.

My Indi is the only one I can't use the furminator on. She has thin, fine hair. I use a fine comb on her, but she doesn't shed much. As for the thicker and longer haired (but not long hair) cats, they seem to love it. It is sharp but it pulls the dead stuff off from the undercoat. They keep coming back for more, they never run from it (me, yes, the furminator, no!)

My girls love their Furminator time! And you just won't believe how much hair you will get. It's enough to make a kitten.

I ordered one few days ago its not arrived yet. My new kitten sheds so much and daily brushing doesnt seem to help. Iv watched a few clips and im shocked at how much fur comes off my only concern is will my cat look a lot different like his fur is thinning ?

I agree with you Princessmummy about all the hair that comes out, that's why I thought it cut the hair, Harry has a beautiful coat and I don't want it looking any different I just want something to make grooming easier for both of us, I'm not sure if he doesn't like grooming or he is just playing when I brush him he purrs but attacks the brush or comb!

Im hoping 'mine will arrive tommorow so ill let you know how i get on. And thats funny prince does the exact same think he purrs like crazy but also keeps trying to bite it . Iv figured he enjoys it but is just being a playful kitty :)

Hi well my furminater arrived today and iv just tried it out on prince. He seemed just the same as when i brush him . I did it for a good 5 mins and got a handful of fur. I didnt get anywhere as much as they do on the videos but then he is only 3 months old lol.iI could of gone on for longer but he was getting fed up. I dont think it is a razer as im sure the would look very uneven if it was . He looks pretty much the same too me . I think it just pulls a lot more than a normal brush.

I'll might order mine today, but the ones I see on Amazon are either short hair or long haired brushes and either for small or large cats, mines has medium hair and is still a kitten (a big kitten) so he's still growing haha so not sure which one to go for, oh decisions, decisions!!

I think i may have brought the old model as it didnt have the button to press that gets rid of hair. And it said suitable for long and short haired cats. I hope i havent brought a fake one :/
