   Did you know that 'chat' is French for 'cat'?

   This is the new TDK chat area. Over the last year or so, the Daily Kitten has developed into a very lively community, and now handles more comments each day than is ideal for the ‘blog’ format the site has always used.

   Conversations are hard to follow, pages can take a long time to load (which places a strain on the server we use to host the website), and many regular readers experience issues with comments overlapping.

   We have tried to fix this by doing the following:

   * There will be no change to the daily kitten posting. Each day, at 3.07GMT, a new kitten will appear, and you will be able to comment on it in exactly the same way as you do currently.

   * We have added this area, where you can chat about other things: exchange recipes, talk about pet health, post links and stories etc. We will need to register, but this is a one-time-only process, and this will also give you your own page on the website, where you can tell people where you’re from, list your interests etc. Assuming that all this works, we will also look at introducing further features.

   So welcome! We hope you enjoy TDK chat!

   Kittenmaster,can you help with one small question? In registering my username,I neglected to include my birthdate after my name.When I went to edit,well,it wouldn't allow me to edit the name,just the password. How come?

    Kittenmaster,
    So if someone starts a topic on the main comment thread, one of us needs to say, "please continue over on TDK chat"? That will take a while to get used to...I wish there were an easier way to move back and forth between the main page and this discussion.
    But I'm glad you're trying to deal with the volume and resulting confusion. This may not be the final answer, but it's a good start.

    Getting on took me awhile - just not savvy enough. Is there a way to get from TDK to this site?

    I wrote a post this morning but wouldn't take it due to change over. If I have this right we have to tailor each conversation to the main topic heading. I guess like a paragraph change. What is the best method to make the transition from one to the other for the challenged user. :)

    Know what you mean by not saavy enuf. I had to put the 'Chat Link' that KM gave us into my favorites. For some reason I can't log in any other way because it won't accept my username. And it won't accept emoticons either. I'm soooooocomputer illiterate.

    Elene, good Sunday morning (or, rather afternoon) to you!
    If you log on to TDK, just go down to the comment box at the end of the comments already posted, then click on TDK chat. It will bring up the menu of the different chat topics that are currently being used, and when the last post was made. Hope this helps!!

    I see the box next to comments with info and Use TDK Chat in pink, nothing happens when I click on. Is it supposed to bring me here and if not how.

    FondaHonda: We may introduce more features as time passes - to start off, we're trying to keep things as simple as possible.

    Elene: I'll be adding a link from TDK homepage to the chat area. And yes, clicking on the link in the box next to the comments area will take you to the main chat homepage.

    Susie: It won't accept emoticons because we're trying to make the site more efficient - and emoticons slow things down. We may re-introduce them as we see how things go.

    This is a great idea! I have but one question right now though...is there someway of changing my password?
    Will stop by later to chat some more, but for the next few hours it's into the homework pits...booo hooo....but the silver lining is that I only have 6 WEEKS LEFT...HOORAY!

    KathyfromVA: Click 'View your profile' at (ed. it is NOT 'in', it is NOT 'on' --> it is 'at'. Grrrr to me.) the top of the page. On the profile page you can edit your profile and change your password.
