  1. Ack! Monday already!

Agency kitties have set up a fabulous buffet with lots of noms - stuff you've never even heard of is here! Hot and cold fountains are flowing, and chef kitties await your custom order from the grill.
The football fan kitties are divided, although they are all wearing red and blue, which happens to be the colors of both teams that are going to the Super Bowl. They are having fun playing with Nerf footballs as the referees make calls, and a couple of kitties are on a box "the booth" double-checking to make sure the referees are making the right calls. Mostly the refs like blowing their whistles! Cheerleader kittens are jumping around and playing with their shiny pom-poms!

  3. Sitting around the house before I head off to work. Rainy day here but warm, going to be in the mid 60s, so that makes the rain not so bad. Enjoying the mild winter, my electricity bill has been manageable this time, unlike last year! Hope everyone has a good day!

  9. Ho Y'all. I was buriend under a grant and then traveling so I haven't been on in about two weeks. Missed you! I'm back in a routine now. Still busy because it is fundraiser season, but not traveling until after the end of March. I had a great time in Chicago and so enjoyed my afternoon and evening with MC. (She totally rocks!) The niece had a good visit with DePaul so hopefully we are mid-term grades away from her being accepted. (Aunt P wants more reasons to get to Chicago!) Although since I found out the train fare is so cheap up to there, I am going to have to plan another trip up soon! I was able to visit my favorite bakery in Lexington this weekend. Since I need to take it really easy on the sugar and carbs, I have cut my long john into 4 pieces and am eating it one small piece a day with my morning coffee. Have a lovely day Sio, JK, Joan, Kit and everyone else who pops into the cafe today.

  10. Hi KYK! Fantastic that you got to meet our MC (any pics?). Fingers crossed for niece's acceptance to DePaul or wherever she most has her heart set on.

  11. Kilroy, just click pink "pics" tag & head to Jan 15 link!
    Hi Sio & KK!
Wow, more pies as baker's dozen of 13 in all, yum...need to choose! Yup Key Lime, thanks for the idea Sio! Now another cuppa joe, pie w/smidge of whipped cream and my Tuxi are headed to the always purrfect patio, later kits for it is lunchtime in balmy-ish 40 degrees in brewtown!

  12. I love Chicago! I just finished reading a really good book called "The Devil in the White City" about the 1893 Chicago Columbian Exposition. It's not a novel, it's non-fiction, but it READS like a novel!

I had no idea of the underlying pandemonium surrounding that exposition, nor did I realize that all but two of the buildings are gone! The only two that are left were built to be permanent: The Museum of Science and Industry (which was the Field Museum before a separate building was erected for the Field), and the Art Institute! All the other 'buildings' were made almost like stage scenery: they were built to be temporary. All of them were painted white, giving rise to the name "The White City" and it was the first mass use of electrical lighting at night, furthering the 'white city' image. Now I want to learn more about the Exposition.

AND...there was a serial killer at work during the Exposition, and a nutcase who ended up assassinating Chicago's mayor two days before the end of the six-month long exhibition.

    FASCINATING reading!

  13. Kilroy, MC and I have met up several times and it is always a good time when I get to see her. I keep coming up with reasons to visit Chicago!

Sio, thanks for the tip about the book. I will look to see if it has a Kindle version available. I just finished Water for Elephants and loved it!

  14. Oh, whoops :S I knew I had seen pics of MC with a couple of TDKers, didn't remember who.

Sio, I've been meaning to read that book for a LONG time; I think it's time to get to the library.

  15. I read Water for Elephants a few months ago and loved it!
Ok, I like cherry pie a lot, but I like key lime even more!

  16. Hi, Everyone!

That book keeps being brought up so I think that I need to read it. A friend in my book group read it and said that she just couldn't put it down.

I'm starting a new volunteer job today! Our PetSmart is one of only ten in the country that has an adoption center in the store. PetSmart Charities put up half of the money to open the center and the other half was raised privately by the Midland Humane Coalition. It's a no-kill shelter and the adoption rate so far has been pretty high. I'm going to work there two afternoons a week. I think that the job is largely cleaning litter boxes - yep, I can do that, and exercising the doggies. I just hope that I don't fall in love with any fur babies there because my girls would not like that at all.

  17. Hi WWM! Good for you, goggies need loves and walkies too :)

I just put a hold on "Devil in the White City"; even now all copies at the NYPL are in use. I put holds on 2 more of the author's books, too.

Posted 4 months ago by Kilroy #

  18. WWM, excellent for you! Knowing that the goggies and kittehs will be going to good homes...that aren't yours, will make it easier for you to love on them and send them on their way.

  19. What thoughtful furry fun WWM!
Now I know what movie to rent next, thanks for the WFE tip KK & Joan!

  22. I have VERY happy kits. I went to Walmart today to get them some new beds. They had those carpeted round kitty condos on clearance for $11!!! So I got both that they had! They like to get into something so they'll love those! They also got a new scratching post and one of those crinkly tubes. They're having a blast :)
