Do our cats really love us as much as we love them? Or are they just good at manipulating us to get what they want? I really do believe my cat truly does love me.

No doubt cats are good in manipulating :-) but they do love us...by now I have experience of rearing 4 cats ...infact some of the experience has been quite touching, which is difficult to forget ...ya they are not expressive like dogs but they are very smart in showing their love..the best thing to prove is that its the love of cats for us and our love for them , that now we are having such wonderful forum to discuss about kittens and cats...

A shared purrfect luving relationship in my observation since enjoying cats as a pet since about 6 years old!

I think so. Cats do not treat all humans equally. They play favorites and they want attention and cuddles at more than just meal times. I have known cats who mourned themselves to death after their human has passed. My brother's cat Missy loved my brother and he was the only human she wanted anything to do with. She died a month after he did, she just couldn't live in a world at which he was not the center.

Cats are like little babies. They depend on us, and even manipulate us just as newborn human babies do. We need them too. So the love is mutual. However, they do not hold grudges or keep records of wrongs as humans do. This what makes them special.

I think they love us MORE--their love is unconditional, unlike humans.

Two examples of selfless kitty love:
When I was in graduate school, I got my first cat. He was one of a litter abandoned at the church I was attending at the time, so I named him Chappel. I would feed him in the kitchen when I got home in the evening, then go into the living room. Chappel would leave his food and follow me into the LR. I'd bring his food bowl into the LR and he'd eat enthusiastically, so he was hungry. Even so, he wanted to be with me more than he wanted to eat.
The last of my kitties to go to the Bridge was Katie, who was helped there at the age of 17 after having two strokes. When I fed her, she would not go immediately to the food bowl. Instead, she would swish against my legs for a few seconds, then go to eat. It was as if she were saying a "kitty blessing," thanking me for her food because I was the only source of food she was able to perceive.

I really do think they love us. And that they need us to love them back. Stumpie gives me kisses on the nose, like a dog, every time I hug him. Skyron sleeps with me at night - she starts out at 'her' end of the bed, but I have woken up on many occassions where she has literally wrapped herself round my arm - like a bear-hug. And then Tigger wakes me up at 5am in the morning, every time he had a traumatic day, do demand a hug and a cuddle. It must be love, love, love . . .
Or I'm just a sucker . . .

Zappo always came to the door to greet me, even if he had already eaten. Catkin does too; he is waiting or comes to the door, sniffs me and accepts pets. If they have not beeen fed yet, he runs upstairs to remind me...otherwise he sticks around for some loving. I can't see that he is getting anything out of it except the attention. Now Willow, I think she just sleeps on me sometimes because I am the Giant Heated Cat Bed...
