  1. Okay, I got Milo to the vet yesterday for his shots (DCR and feluk).

Good news: little man is now healthy!!! His temp was down from 103.9 last time to 101 and he had gone from 2 lbs to almost three and a half in three weeks! We saw a different vet than last time (there are two) and he was very pleased with Milo's progress. The first thing he told me was that if he still had a temperature and wasn't well, he wouldn't do the shots.
I told him Milo still has some diarreah and he gave me pills for that. 1/4 of a pill a day for a week should clear it up, he said. I mentioned Pill Pockets and he had some in the office. He gave Milo two (they are huge and Mi is little!) to see if he'd like the taste of them. He LOVED them and gobbled them down! Well, than vet proceeded to put a pill in one. It was a circus - Milo kept managed to spit out the pill, even when the vet just wrapped it in part of the pill pocket because it was so big.
Finally he gave up, saying Mi was too smart and I'd have to just give him the pill every day. So I'll be doing that for the next week.

But I'm SO relieved he's better! Don't tell him, but he's going back in two weeks for more shots!

  2. Oh, forgot another part! When I got back to the office, one of our IT guys had finally returned my call from 6 hrs. earlier. Boss told him the office kitten had to go to the vet, so could he please call back in 15 minutes! He did!

I bet the people at HQ must be wondering what kind of office we're running down here!

  3. You have a great boss, GD. Think he should be nominated for boss of the year! Also, he must value you very much!

  5. I wish I could magically turn all of my students into kitties--maybe then, they wouldn't annoy me so dang much and I'd have a lot more patience! :)

I'm waiting for our next feature flick starring Milo and the Bobster!

  6. Great News GD...I'll bet Bob had a paw in his recovery. They were so anxious in meeting each other that Milo had no choice than to get better. Good luck with the pills. They're never, ever easy to do. I know. I have the scars to prove it. lol

  9. Yep, the pills'll be fun! I've given pills to cats before, and it's never fun. I always find the trick to blow a bit on their face to make them swallow helps.

There will me new Bob and Milo movies soon. I have only been home to sleep about 5 hrs. a night since Saturday, so I haven't had a chance. I haven't even put the new kitty castle together yet!
Tournament finishes Sunday, and I'm off Mojday for President's Day, so hopefully i can rest up, assemble the castle and hang out with my boys and shoot some more movies.

Boss IS great. He's SO excited this morning, because I got him tickets to take his wife to the tournament last night. I had volunteer grandstand tickets for him, but one of the players' coach gave me two tickets that were much nicer, so I met up with boss and wife as they showed up at the site and gave them the better tickets. They had a wonderful time and he can't stop talking about it. He wants to go back for the finals on Sunday so I have to work on getting more tickets. Last night he watched James Blake and the Bryan brothers for any tennis fans out there, and he was very impressed.

  10. Oh and a pound and half in 3 weeks??? He won't be "Little" Milo much longer..

    Posted 2 years ago by 2bpurring #

  11. I'm afraid not, 2b! He's hungry all the time!!!
Bob is so easy, he only likes his dry food!

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  12. Good thinking, Milo! A big hug to him and Bobsky! Now where's the next movie?

Posted 2 years ago by miu #

  13. GD...you mention blowing in his face alittle to get him to swallow. How do you get the pill far enuf into his mouth to even do that. I always do the chicken way out & mix them with alittle water & eye-dropper it down their throat. Even that's become a problem if I don't get the whole squirt down them the first time.

  14. SO tired, Miu! I'm starting wto wonder how they can let me drive people around like this. My brain has stopped functioning. I've had about 19 hrs. of sleep the last 4 nights, and worked most days for about 18 hrs.
Will try to do a movie on Sunday night or Monday.

  15. or you could try crushing the pills and putting it on the food or in wet food if he will eat that. Glad that Milo and Bobster are curious about each other, thats a good sign.

  16. I know, Catchoo! Milo hated the dropper with the Clavamox - I don't think I'd be able to do the pill that way. I'll just have to do it the old fashinoned way.

  17. Ferrule is actually really easy to pill. I just turn him on his back, gently open his mouth, and drop the pill in the back. He makes a startled gaggy face and then it's gone.

So glad Milo is doing well

  18. Deb, he was so tricky at the vet's yesterday even the vet admitted the pill in food method will most likely not work. He tried putting down a bite without pill and Mi would eat it. Then he'd put a same size one down with the pill and little guy wanted no part of it.
I may try crushing it in the wet food and then pour fishy gravy on top so he won't smell it. Hmmmm, think I'll try sticking it in his mouth first *note to self: buy thick rubber gloves* and if I have no luck with that I'll try it in the wet food.

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  19. Awww, I want to see a pic of Ferrule's startled gaggy face!

Actually vet had no problem pilling Mi yesterday, so maybe it won't be so bad. One can hope! If I can't I'll bring Milo to work every day with the pill and stop by vet's office to have him give it. Hmmmmm, that amy work....

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  20. Poor Milo..tricked into going to the vet. I am very glad that he is doing so well and gaining weight. I hope you get your well deserved rest, GD. You don't want a relapse of your bronchitus. {{hugs to GD, Milo and Bobsky}}

Posted 2 years ago by SylvesterMiasMomma #

  21. Ahh, GD, take a good long rest first! THEN you can shoot more movies. ;) We want you to be in top shape. How else could you work, play tennis and entertain The Wild Brothers?

Posted 2 years ago by miu #

  22. Wonderful!

And yes, if he's that clever as a kitten, then he'll definitely be setting up complex schemes to rule the world (rather than just your household) any day now.

    Your boss rocks.

  23. Giving pills around here is one of my most feared adventures. Pill pockets used to work, but like Milo, they all either ignore them or eat around the pill. It's really bad for the indoor ferals that can't be picked up and force fed. I am going to try KFC's chicken next, I cooked some here but no luck there either.

    Posted 2 years ago by Elene_YorkPA_7/21 #

  24. I forgot to mention..I echo AnnF's comment...GD, your boss rocks!

Posted 2 years ago by SylvesterMiasMomma #

  25. Yep, he does!

Unfortunately quite a few of the players, the coaches and the officials at the tournament are sick with a cold. Somehow they all end up in MY car! My throat is a bit tickly again, but I'm hoping it's allergies or that I'll be fine once I sleep for a few days!

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  26. Take care of yourself GD. And your boss is very cool.

I'll have to have MR film it next time I have to give Ferrule a pill. It's pretty funny. I'm glad I haven't had to do it very often though. Glad he's a healthy guy.

Posted 2 years ago by MeezerMama in OK; 10/23 #

  27. A friend's cat would only take his pills if they were wrapped in parma ham! As he had to have two pills a day for the last two years of his life he got through a whole lot of ham.
For Polly it's no use wrapping anything around pills, you just have to chuck them down her throat and then hold her mouth shut until she is forced to swallow. The vet even gave up with the pill gun, gave me the worming pill and said - try again at home when she's less stressed. (Great, lacerated hands here we come again!) But I've got it down to a fine art now.

  28. GD -- wonderful news about Milo's health. And ditto on the wonderful boss! that would never happen in my office... boss if highly allergic to cats. And his wife has one LOL

Posted 2 years ago by 2 Popoki #

  29. PM...maybe you could get a short movie of Polly next time. If possible, I'd like to Copy that fine art of yours. They only need a half a tablet of the worm med with their size & weight, but, that half a tablet seems like an entire prescription even done with the eyedropper or syringe. I try to thin it down w/water as much as I can without it being too much & choking them. Spunky has gotten quite good at closing his throat off in back so the meds come squirting back out(the smart little devil). I wish I had the guts to just jam it down them. lol

  30. Hi there! Tournament's over! I was going to shoot a movie of Milo and Bob, and now my camera is out of batteries!! I am so completely exhausted, I can't even think of going out to buy some. Maybe tomorrow.
Of course, it turned out, vet was MUCH better at pilling Milo, than I am, so I'm crushing the pill and mixing it in his wet food. Now all I've got to do is make sure Milo and not Bob eats the food!

I assembled their new kitty castle last night when I got back from the tennis. I was so tired, it took several tries. But the boys love it! I'll try to get it on film when I can muster up enough energy to go get batteries.
