Hi Everyone.
Last week I managed to get 8 of 10 kittens adopted out, leaving only 2 here. Both have/had minor health issues at the time. One of those is healed and ready to go, the last one has undescended testes. He is now having issues and I am trying to help him until I can get him to the vet tommorrow.
It started yesterday afternoon, he seems to have an intestial blockage (Must have eaten something he is not supposed to). He is not interested in food or water, so I am treating (force feeding) him with olive oil and cows milk (for nutrition and to loosen stools to help it pass). He pees, but strains to poop with no effect. I am afraid to try mineral oil on such a small body(10 weeks old now).
Any other suggestions?

Cow's milk isn't a great idea, but if you don't have access to KMR then that's what you work with.
A blockage really is something for the vet to clear up. I hope he'll be fine, but he really needs to see the vet as soon as possible. Keep a close eye on his condition and hydration, if you have to wait to take him to the vet first thing on Monday morning. You might try Pedialyte instead of or in addition to water, to make sure his electrolytes and blood sugar don't get too wonky.

He finally ate last night, and this morning, and took a poop (Albiet a hard one) this morning just before we left. So I left him at home since his system appears to be moving properly. I think he is gonna be ok in a few days after, what ever it is that he ate, finally passes. His hydration is better and he is more perky.

Good news MerD.
Isn't it hard to send the kitties off? I would have a hard time with rescue work. I'ld want to keep them all.Posted 4 years ago by artistabobbi TX 1/17 #

MerD, I'm glad to hear that he seems to be doing better! Does he eat wet food, or only dry? If he eats wet food, is there any way to mix in a little cooked oatmeal and/or plain yogurt with his food? Maybe just a teaspoon of each? (Both of those tend to relax the stool a bit, without inducing diarrhea.)

MerD, glad that he seems to be a little bit better. Hang in there, and know that we are thinking of him too
