  3. Okay, we'll split the blue ribbon between 2bp and angel. Together, your answers are complete. 2bp, his actual first name was Jonathan rather than John, and that's how he was billed on LIS. He used John as an abbreviation sometimes, for example, in his high school yearbook. "Jonathan Charasuchin" took up too much room. He was a pharmacy clerk as a child, then became a pharmacist with a degree from Fordham University before becoming an actor.

Dang! I'm going to have to give a lot of thought to the next question. You folks are too quick for me.

Extra points: How is "Charasuchin" pronounced?

  4. hahah not even gonna try that one. I am very good at murdering pronounciation of names. :D

  9. But do carbs sleep at night?

Posted 3 years ago by Leeny #

  10. Heeehee fat cells? nope mine are always ssleeping :(

  11. Well, I don't know the answer to Instinct's riddle, but I'll close out my own quiz now. The proper pronunciation of "Charasuchin" is:

    HAR-uh-soo-KEEN

    It's Russian.

Now I'm going to take a while to find something challenging.

  12. Okay, new one: What offense, committed against a cat, is likely to result in the perpetrator being afflicted with itching blood?

Posted 3 years ago by Leeny #

  13. Delete that..not sure about this

Posted 3 years ago by SylvesterMiasMomma #

  14. Important clue: This isn't for real; it was a threat made by a fictitious character.

Posted 3 years ago by Leeny #

  15. In Harry Potter, against the caretaker's cat, don't remember the offense

Posted 3 years ago by paulajeanne #

  16. I haven't read Harry Potter, so I don't know about that, but someone else said it earlier in another book.

Posted 3 years ago by Leeny #

  17. Boy, now I am at a loss. Only thing that popped in my mind was magic of some kind.

Posted 3 years ago by paulajeanne #

  18. Rats. I thought it was Ted Nugent: "Cat Scratch Fever."

Howzabout this one? For what Heisman Trophy winner was the facemask invented and why?

For bonus points, name the college this player attended and the year he won the Heisman.

For everlasting admiration, name the bowl his college played in that year and what was so unique about that particular bowl game that it will never be duplicated.

  19. Cat Scratch Fever

  20. Okay, to set the question in context, here is the literary passage from which it comes:

"[Book character] said, 'If you [committed this particular offense against the particular cat in the story], he'd sit and stare at a point between your eyes until you began to feel dizzy. Soon there would be a dull ache under your left shoulder blade, then a stabbing abdominal pain. Your feet would get numb, and you'd find it hard to breathe. Then your blood would start to itch. Do you know what it feels like to have itching blood?'
"[Housekeeper] patted her friend's hand. 'He's kidding, dear. He's always kidding.' "

Now, who can fill in the blanks?

Posted 3 years ago by Leeny #

  21. Gatakitty, if my best friend were still alive, she'd have those questions answered in five seconds.

Posted 3 years ago by Leeny #

  22. Eileen, your best friend must have run in the same circles as I. If anyone had a lead on the answer, I expected it to be you.

    That was a HINT, littermates!!!!

  23. Uh, did he play at UGA?

Posted 3 years ago by Leeny #

  24. Uh, yeah. Your identity choices are now narrowed to two, and one of them should already be eliminated in your mind for obvious reasons! :D

Posted 3 years ago by gatakitty #

  25. Well, it can't be Herschel Walker, because they already had face masks on helmets when he was playing at Georgia. He's the only Heisman Trophy winner who I know went to Georgia, so it must be the other one--whoever he is.

Posted 3 years ago by Leeny #

  26. ...getting warmer!

Posted 3 years ago by gatakitty #

  27. Okay, it was Frank Sinkwich in 1942. The face mask was invented for him because he was playing with a broken jaw. He played in the Orange Bowl, and was wearing a Marine uniform when he accepted his trophy. I don't know what was special about the Orange Bowl that year to make it unique, however, unless it had something to do with the fact that World War II was going on at the time.

Do I get a red ribbon for having most of the info?

Posted 3 years ago by Leeny #

  28. One red ribbon coming up for Eileen. Red is a hint, BTW--UGA did NOT play in the Orange Bowl after the 1942 season; it was a different bowl, the likes of which will certainly never happen again.

Posted 3 years ago by gatakitty #

  29. What was a different bowl?

Posted 3 years ago by Leeny #

  30. The bowl game in which UGA appeared after the 1942 season. It was not the Orange Bowl. That game marked something significant (to the bowl itself, not necessarily to UGA).
