  1. I really like this Senator Herb Kohl of Wisconsin! You go Herb! It sounds a little bit to me like the Department of Agriculture needs to develope a Strict Job Description for all of the inspectors and they either follow it or don't let the door hit 'em on the way out. This business of some are strict and others are lax is, excuse my language...B.S.

  2. IMO, the USDA has, for years and years, been classic case of the fox guarding the henhouse. I'm glad to hear of their public statements, but I'll be more impressed if they actually follow through.

(While I'm fantasizing about that, I'd like fantasize about seeing humane treatment standards enacted for poultry, and also for a separate organization to monitor & regulate animals kept as pets, not livestock.)

  3. I agree Anncetera...I believe Humane Society of the United States is working to help our USA citizens, the poultry. It seems I've signed a petition or submitted some letters on it. (honestly, I support so many that even I can't keep them straight) The time of cruelty to animals is in fact, becoming a much more widespread concern among the people. I pray that our lawmakers and elected officials will realize we have reached the point where WE THE PEOPLE will not tolerate the unfair treatment of our animals (who we see as US Citizens) and will implement whatever means it will take to end animal cruelty. They will need pushing but WE THE PEOPLE are a force to be dealt with..... :-)

  4. I think the "downed cow" video on the news opened some eyes. I know I saw photos of downed cows, horrendous treatment of poultry, baby calves in tiny boxes for tender veal, sows kept confined in enclosures so small they couldn't turn around, and I found this information in books more than 15 years ago. Became vegetarian because of it and all the other abuses of making our animals into factory goods.

If we could just get the news to show more videos of farm animal abuse, and the puppy mill/pet store cruelty maybe we would get somewhere.

  5. I agree Elene...It takes the raw shock of reality to get people to believe that the reports aren't just coming from some radical group who runs around throwing red paint on fur coats. (I'm not demeaning PETA..but some people see them that way) It seems the only way Americans believe anything is to see it on primetime TV/News. So our networks need to do some promoting here themselves..it could build their viewer base to give the people something they can get behind. They Could call it 'Making Changes In America' by the people for the animals...Oh or how about America's Most Wanted for Animal Cruelty Crimes!!!
