I have a question. I have a cat who is 16 years old and have had him sice he was 5 weeks old. He is an indoor cat and nutured but seven years ago I use to let him out of the house for a couple of hours and a cat attacked him. I didn't find out until a year or so ago when he got sick that during the attack he had caught FIV. I'm disabled now due to a drunk driver and can't keep up with his on going vet bills, they are sure racking up. He is on antibiodics everyday and needs to go to the Vet monthly or more for care and treatment. He is not sick to where he needs to be put to sleep. He is stong even with his condition. Can anyone please let me kow if there are any places out there that will help pay for Vet bills or organizations that make donations for care of sick animals. Any information would be greatly appreciated. You can contact me at sweetness1763@hotmail.com. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

My cat is sick, please help
(41 posts)-
Lynn, maybe contact your local paper and see if they will write up your story? It could be helpful to let others know the dangers of FIV and also may result in some local companies helping you out financially or a vet donating services. My mother adopted a pregnant stray cat and the kittens all got sick at 3 months, they had FIV, and they all died. I'm amazed that your cat has been able to live with the illness for so long, especially at such an advanced age. Best of luck to you.

Can you talk to your vet and explain the situation? If you've been a loyal patient, they should give you a break and at least point you in the right direction for assistance. I'm so sorry to hear about your accident and I know must be so worried about taking care of your kitty. Vet bills can be so oppressive!

Please google no kill shelters in your area, they may be able to refer you to potential sources of help or possibly low cost vets. Our local shelter gets discounted vet care from two vets in the area. Other possibility is to call the local vet offices and find out which one is willing to work with you.
Bless you for not giving up on your kitty and providing the best care for him. I wish you both well and offer my prayers.Posted 2 years ago by Tigerlilly #

Lynnnmo, if you're a member, please don't overlook your local church or parish for assistance.

One of our kitties needs a daily shot plus daily SubQ fluids. Our vet showed us how to do both and give us a prescription for the needed materials. It's much less expensive to order meds online in larger quanities.

Hi Lynnnmo..Have you checked any of the pet-med companies online? Supposedly they are quite a savings over the prices of meds obtained from the vet? Good luck dear..I know how much you love your kitty and you shouldn't have to worry at this stage of the game as to how you can give him all he needs. I'm trying to work out some med problems for my 14 yr. old dog who has joint problems and am finding the solutions are not cheap. Again...Good luck...

Thanks to eveyone who has given me praise, suggestions and compation regarding my sick little baby. I have checked eveywhere trying to find help with medical bills but haven't had any luck yet. I'm trying to get help now through some links on the pet fund, which is a site developed to help animals in need. I'm hoping IMOM can help me, I'm just waiting to hear from them. Right now I give him his subQ fluids at home and the Vet discounts things and lets me charge sometimes but the bill is getting very very high. He is 16 and is very determined to stay in this world with me. We have been attached to each other for the whole 16 years and I hope he will be around a lot longer for me to love. I don't know what I would do without him. Again, thanks for all your support. Keep up the great work on this site, it's wonderful!

My girlfriend lives on disability but adopted a dog that had ended up with very expensive medical needs. Her vet ran a tab for her and eventually suggested that she cover his office phone and do a little invoicing and accounting to work off her tab. She was able to do it from home since her disability prevents her from traveling very much. He had his phones forwarded to her over the weekend and when everyone went to lunch. And one of his office girls dropped off a basket of paperwork every couple of days. Maybe your vet could work out some sort of trade with you.

Once again I wanted to tell everyone that I appreciate all the prayers and concern for my baby and I. I haven't found any funding yet but I'm still working on it. I had a set back due to my Vet having a heart attack last week and not being able to get me the paperwork I need to work on even getting the funding. I had to take my baby (Cane) to the Vet last Wed because he is having a lot of difficulties with his mouth problem. I picked him up arond 4pm that day and later on that night the Vet had his heart attack. So I want to send my prayers out to my Vet who has helped when no one else would. I also want to send my prayers out to any and everyone who is going through the same things with their pets. It's a hard thing to go through and sometimes it takes other people, like the people in this fourm to help us get through it. I wish all of you my prayers, my love, my concern and if needed, a lending ear.

Much white light for your Vet and others having similar problems with their pets. You are so sweet to think of them too. Hugs to you and your baby.

I have had a few people contact me and offered help but when I respond with all my information they need, I never hear back from them. Does anyone have any new information on places that help sick cats living with the daily troubles of FIV? I do live on SSI and that's the only income I have. I can give the name and phone number of my Vet so anyone can confirm what is going on with my baby "Cane". I appreciate all the support and prayers everyone had been sending. Also, thanks for emailing me with the stories about your sick animals. They have really helped me in dealing with my wonderful 16 year old baby. I wish all of you luck with your babies as well and my prayers are also with you. Thanks again for lending an ear and the encouraging words and prayers. You are all wonderful people here in this forum.

UPDATE: Well just a few hours ago my "cane cane" passed out and started vomiting blood and had to be rushed to the Vet. They are keeping him over night and running test. He is anemic, his kidney level is up and another one of his blood panel was low. I'm not sure what's going to happen and right now I'm a bit confused and VERY upset. His regular Vet is recovering from his heart attack so I took him to the other Vet clinic that he owns as well. I trust in them to take care of him and I hope he gets to come back home. I was driving so fast just to get to the clinic because I really thought I was going to lose him and I don't think I can deal with that. I want to thank everyone for being concerned and I will keep you updated on his outcome.

I'm sorry that Cane isn't doing well, Lynn. I hope the vet can make him comfortable. Cane has had a long, full life with you. I know it will be hard to see him go if his time has come. Sending the TDK healing white light and prayers that his time has not come, but if it has that he passes peacefully and pain-free knowing how much you've loved him. {{{hugs}}}

Lynn, I just now saw this thread, and I'm sorry I was unaware of your plight.
I am so sorry that Cane is having such a hard time right now. You have been his angel, and it might be time to turn him over to other angels.
I am sending you and Cane positive healing energy that things work out for the best. Please don't stop blogging. We are pulling for you.
