  1. Well, everyone, Tiger has been to the V-word because he wouldn't come out from under the bed.

Well, it seems that our little boy was having anxiety attacks. Dr. Fox has prescribed kitty valium for our littlest one and said that TigerButt should get better as he gets more familiar with our new home.

As a very good friend said, only would the Pickett family have a cat that is nuts.

  4. Oh, poor Tiger. The little one has too much stress in his life.

I had a himmy named Daisy that had to take kitty drugs to keep her stable. She was epaleptic, had OCD and was mad as the hatter.

    Good luck with Tiger

  9. Sorry Tiger is having trouble adjusting. Just want to give you a word of warning on the valium. When I moved my Zasha, after 13 years in one home, she was having a terrible time too. My vet also prescribed valium. It made her sleepy and she acted like a drunk kitty within minutes of taking the pill. The big problem was when the valium started to wear off. The first morning I woke up with her biting my face (just missed my eye), the second morning I woke to her biting my hand. Lots of blood and pain. Had to stop the valium. Don't know if her reaction is possible for other cats.

  11. Oh Elene, I'm so sorry to hear that! But we give Rusty valium for his horrible itchy skin allergies. He starts chewing and it becomes like a tic until he's so raw he cries. Maybe they should make puppy prozac.

  12. I hope tha valium helps Tiger.
From what I understand there can be unpredictable reactions to many of these type of meds in kitties. My Jenny was briefly on valium because she went through a phase when she would make all kinds of noise and keep us up all night. She had a paradoxical reaction and the valium made her more hyper.
God willing it will work well for Tiger. Keep us posted.

  13. perhaps your vets can recommend and alternative to diazapam (valium) Antihistamines could be an alternative the the psychotropic and may be safer.

  14. Poor TB. I hope the meds help. We had a meezer that had to go on valium for a time for anxiety. It worked well. As she calmed down, I cut the dose in half and then in quarters before stopping it entirely. Fortunately all the hair she pulled out while she was in freak-out mode grew back. Lots of extra love for Tiger Butt

  15. Ask your vet about clomicalm (that's what it''s called here anyway) - we use it & feliway for eric now when there are "known" stressful events (like the builders in the kitchen today) - works very well.

  17. Poor Tiger! We have moved so much that I totally understand as all of our kitties had adjustment periods to their new home. But you aren't the only ones with a "disturbed" kitty, Terri. Our Skimbleshanks was on Valium for quilte some time. We loved him but he was... uh.... challenged in some areas! He did fine on the Valium with no reaction at all.

  18. My poor little TigerButt!!! :( You and John will have to move back!!!

I had a very nervous kitty who was on valium for a while with no side effects. Hope it works for TB - maybe try some Feliway, too!

  19. Oh, and hugs to Tiger!

  20. Poor kitty--did you try Feliway first--I am hesitant to give any animal or human these psych drugs--I just read an article last week that they are ineffective for anyone but the most severe.

  21. Poor Tigerbutt! My first kitty was so anxious from moving several times over a 10 year period that she use to pull the fur off her front paws. The vet never figured what was causing it and he didn't think to offer her valium. I wish I had found something to calm her. Poor Whiskers.
