  1. Hi All,

I have 7 neutered male cats (and one male dog, and three male offspring, but I digress.) ALL of my cats were neutered before puberty. One of my cats, my darling Wolfie, has never sprayed or had a single accident. The rest of them have various spraying issues. I have to keep Lucky and Jimmy the Weasel outside because they are incorrigable sprayers. They spray the perimeter of the yard, but if they get in the house they spray lower bookshelves (so I have to keep the bottom shelves empty) the sides of dressers in the bedrooms, and the washer and dryer. If there is any kind of box left on the floor it is peed on. This started the formerly non-sprayers to follow suit. My fluffy orange cat 120 has been caught spraying the shower curtain and, disgustingly, standing on the counter and spraying the side of the fridge and my vitamins. Teensie appears to spray stuff but when you look behind him, nothing is coming out. He is just pretending. Today I saw that someone had sprayed the side of the sofa (I AM SO MAD!) and peed on a favorite tie-dye shirt that I left out. Tristan, who is the alpha cat, will poop in the litter box but then look around for a towel or pile of clean clothes to unleash a lake of urine. (He does not spray.) I have two litter boxes in the basement, one in a walkway off the kitchen, one in the laundry room (upstairs,) and one in the garage. Even so, they will usually scratch at the door to go outside to go to the bathroom and mostly use the litter box if I am not there to let them out/in. Wolfie stays exclusively indoors but the others go in and out. Also, is there anything that will get the pee stains off the carpet? It's so embarrassing. And though I have cleaned the side of the dresser with EVERYTHING, including straight bleach, the spots always return. (The dresser is painted.) HELP! Oh, I almost forgot Boo Radley, who will pee in the litter box but wants to poop on carpet.

  2. WOW What a problem!
Many years ago, I knew someone whose cats had a spraying problem. At that time, it was recommended that they be given tranquilizers. It got better, but there were still some accidents once in a while. (Can't help you with the pop on the carpet. That's my burden with one of my kits right now!)
    Good Luck!

  3. Caddycat--by "they" do you mean the cats or the owners were given tranquilizers? ;-)

I did read about your issue with pooping, and am going to consider putting Boo in a room alone with a litter box and having him checked for parasites because it is always runny. He has destroyed my Berber carpet since it is very difficult to get runny poop out of there. I would be thrilled to find a reason for his bad behavior othan than he likes the feel of carpet on his hiney!

  4. I have light beige carpet and have found the best thing in the world to use (right from the mouth of a carpet specialist!). I have given this 'recipe' to many people and everyone loves it and now swears by it. In a spray bottle, mix together 16 oz. peroxide. Add 2 to 3 Tbsp. pure ammonia. Make sure to keep the spray bottle open, or the bottle will expand. Spray on the stain, and it will usually disappear momentarily. Tougher stains may need to be sprayed more than once. This will get out anything but stains containing grease. It completely removed coffee and red Kool-aid stains out of my car years ago (light beige interior). It is so good that I use it on laundry and it gets everything out. If you use it as soon as possible on pet stains, it will get the stain out completely. If it's an older stain, it might still be noticable to you, but probably not to others. I had a Liz Claiborne sweater that I didn't wear for a long time because of a stain and had tried everything imaginable. Used this spray, and the stain was gone in a few minutes. My dog had even thrown-up chocolate chips (looooooong story) on my light carpet and this stuff removed it. Try it--you'll be amazed!

  5. Thanks FondaHonda--I've been in need of a stain remover that actually works. One question....Does the scent of ammonia linger. I really despise the smell of ammonia.

  6. Hi, I needed a magic cleaner to remove lots of blood that had dried on my favorite rug and just reupholstered antique sofa. (It was cat blood from one of my rescues in major heat before her spaying) 50-50 peroxide and water and a clean white cloth, rub gently. Test on inconspicuous area first. Completely removed the blood stains.

  7. Catwoman, you have a problem that would drive me to put all the kitties outside on a permanent basis which I know I would feel awful about doing. Maybe check with your local vet and shelters to find out what they can suggest? Separation, feliway (tranquiler I believe), or maybe behavioral training?

  8. Susie in CA--I don't notice a smell with it. I have to admit, though, that the first time I made it, I put in 3 T. peroxide to 16 oz. ammonia. Couldn't figure out why I started having problems breathing! Won't make that mistake again! Bailey throws up a lot of hairballs, and this stuff gets all the stains up. I even sprayed it on a couch that was looking really dingy and it brightened it. I spilled baked beans on the floorboard of my car and no one would even know by looking now. Ya'll (yes, I'm a Texan!) need to try it--you will be amazed!

  9. Peroxide rocks: I had a cat who brought in one of the neighbor's chickens when i wasn't around(please, no hate mail!), and the carnage..oh...the carnage. Peroxide cleaned the sofa, carpets, and walls.

  10. I have used peroxide to brighten whites instead of using bleach (which is not environmentally friendly). Baking soda works well for cleaning. I've even used baking soda and vinegar to wash my clothes when I ran out of soap. Cleans well.

  11. Baking soda and vinegar are safe and inexpensive for many cleaning jobs. I use 2/3 white vinegar and 1/3 water with white cloth to wipe down all my upholstered furniture. Works wonders and freshens too. I use baking soda to clean and shine my stainless steel sink. Just sprinkle generous amount on wet surface, with wet scrubber or sponge give it some elbow grease. Makes an old sink look new and doesn't pollute. For windows I use alcohol mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with water. Wonderful and no streaks.

  13. Couldn't help laughing when I read you post Caddycat...
Cats spraying, pooing... and we can't help loving them kitties to death!

  14. Yes, PipasMom....We do love them all! At least it's only one of my four that has the problem. If they all had it, I'd have to live outdoors!! LOL!

  15. Catwoman,

I have used Get Serious in the past and it works well. It is sold at Petsmart, I have also used it in my carpet cleaning machine with no problems. It has a nice aroma. I have also had to buy new litter boxes in the past to replace old ones. If you have a spray bottle of water & you can catch them when they are doing it, it might help.
