  1. Having a break is an excellent idea, but also good to have the option to be around people - Karin or whoever - as sometimes too much alone time encourages too much self reflection which can deepen a depression. (Why can I say this to someone else, and not pay a blind bit of attention to it myself?!). If you can get a cheap flight, there's free accommodation in Nottingham!! - hot and cold running cats in every room... ;-)

  2. Last time I was in SF (3 years ago) we didn't use the car at all

    hot and cold running cats...awesome

  3. AAAUUGGHHH $1100 to get to Nottingham... guess I have to stay State-side this time. Good words of advice MCW... and yes, we all give great advice to others, and seldom do we heed our own words.

Still in the thinking planning stages, but knowing I could get around without a car is a plus. I fear getting lost !

  4. I am afraid of getting lost in strange places too. Sometimes it's the best adventure though.
Best of luck finding a restful spot to escape. Hubby and I went to Eureka Springs this summer. It was cheap and relaxing.

  5. I may have to make my get-away closer to home. Like Prescott, Sedona or Jerome. Just to get away - even if it's just overnight.

Yesterday was such a long day for me. Didn't get to see Dad. Hope I will tonight. I spent too much time on the road in rush hour traffic (142 miles round trip) to pickup my grandson to get him to a wedding rehearsal and then home again. My son cannot drive (license revoked with the DUI) and the grandson's mother would not help. In her words... Not my f***** friend. So I have that continued stress on top of Dad and the iffy state of my relationship with the man-friend. I don't mean to complain... just needing to vent. Tears are forever on the verge of spilling any more. Depressed?? Probably. All situational though.

  6. I vote for Sedona. I don't buy into the vibes of the place! but this time of year that canyon should be absolutely at its best. Is it Oak Creek? Been a while since I was down there. And nature has its own way of putting problems in their place. Please stay strong OP, and know you have all the force and good vibes of the TDK family behind you.

  7. YES !! Oak Creek Canyon... the leaves should be changing about the time I can get away. ANd the red rocks in Sedona... so pretty. Thanks Paulajeanne for the reminder of that canyon.... that may be just exactly where I go.

  8. If you can't actually get away make a little space for yourself in your own home. Take the phone off the hook, switch off the mobile, put on your favourite music, get into a warm bath with a glass of your favourite drink, some chocolate and a good book. Give yourself an hour's holiday. It's not much, but if you're too broke to travel, and too stressed to cope, it's sometimes enough to let you face the next day without cracking up. It worked for me!

    ($1100 - bloody hell!!)

  11. Dark chocolate. Good idea. Thanks for the HUGS.
    (That's what I was thinking !!! )

I'll go see Dad tonight, after I pickup the Grandson. Another long story there, short of it is my son cannot drive (because of his DUI) so I have to help in this regard. He can't always get friends to take that long drive, so I do this every other weekend. At least I get time with my son... :)

  12. I hope spending time with son and grandson is nice for you. Lots of hugs for you.

  13. I always enjoy time with those 2... although 2 1/52 hours in the car, in rush hour traffic rather sucks... it was fun to have the little guy with me.

Dad is still not sure if there will be a 2nd surgery. He is having another test/x-ray/something today to see if the leak is still there. From what he says, if the leak is there - they go back in. If not... I don't know. I spent several hours with my mom yesterday checking out care centers. Dad will transition there before going home. Everything is on 'hold' and we really don't know anything other than definite maybes.

Posted 4 years ago by 2 Popoki #

  14. having everything on hold just plain sucks. Honestly, those 'definite maybes' make me want to break someone's nose. I'm feeling your frustration there.
I'm at work today where I have a drawer containing Dove dark chocolates. have plenty to share.

Posted 4 years ago by MeezerMama in OK; 10/23 #

  15. Oh.. I'll take a Dove dark. I love the messages inside each wrapper.

Posted 4 years ago by 2 Popoki #

  16. Ooohhh - Dove chocolate! Dove was a customer of my last company, and some of my co-workers went there. Apparently there were freezer chests all around filled with Dove Bars, and you could just take one whenever you wanted! I would have been in big trouble if I worked there! ;-)

  22. Thanks MCW.... will hopefully know something today or tomorrow. This is exhausting.

  23. How are you doing today One Popoki? Hope you are able to get away for a nice three day weekend to take care of yourself. If you cannot afford to go away, you can always take yourself out for a nice dinner or even better, go to your favorite restaurant and if able get a nice for take out, then go home and light candles or incense, take a nice bath, and have your dinner and some nice wine. I use to treat myself on New Year's Eve to a huge New York Steak dinner. I would go out and buy a couple of these steaks, small red potatoes, broccoli or brussel sprounts, corn and a nice piece of chocolate cake. I would buy a half split of good champagne. At around 8pm, I would make my dinner and enjoy it and then either open the champagne to have with dinner or if I was awake, to have it at midnight. I probably will end up doing that again this year. I haven't done that in three years because hubby doesn't really like steaks and I didn't feel up to doing something like that.

Anyways, hugs and purrs to you. We are here for you.

  24. Karin, how are you sweeie?

  25. OP, You are in Tucson aren't you? Until you can get away for a few days, maybe pack a picnic lunch and go up into the mountains and enjoy the cooler air or treat yourself to the chocolate cake at Blue Willow and get a massage. Keep us posted. Lots of hugs

    Karin -- awesome suggestions!

Now... the GOOD NEWS! Dad got the NG tube out yesterday and was able to 'eat' jello, beef broth and water - all of which stayed down. The WBC count is down to 11,000 (from 22,500) and after another barium enema - the leak has healed itself ! He will be in the hospital for another week or less, then off to a care center for 2-3 weeks.

Thank you and bless you all for your continued thoughts and prayers !!!!
