  1. Nothing since Monday. I didn't get out to see him last night.... plan to tonight. Maybe he'll know when he's being discharged. And since Mom has not called, I take no news as good news. Thanks MM... that's what is so awesome about everyone on this site..we all have our own challenges, yet we can still reach out to others. Nice :)

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words. I have found this much more difficult than I ever imagined. My dad and I have not always been close, but in the past several years that has changed. It's inevitable, I know, no gets out of this world alive... we just do our best to postpone the departure as long as possible.

  6. OP, here is hoping your Dad continues to get better so you can spend some more time with him. That is wonderful that you grown closer to one another. Healing light, prayers and hugs.

  7. Pins and needles.....did you learn anything new last night?

  8. Dad's diet has progressed from clear liquids... he had split pea soup last night - one of his favorites! He was so chatty last night -- very out of character; well usually Mom is there and NO ONE can get a word in. LOL Looks like possibly Monday he'll move the SNF (skilled nursing facility) AND, the one that was first on our list. He's a tough old bird... and I'm really glad he'll be around for a few more years. He's already talking about the challenge when he starts golfing again, and how he'll have to start slow. THAT was a very good sign.

Karin - thank you for the continued prayers and hugs. I love hugs and miss not getting them on a regular basis !

  15. I'd love to take quiet time for myself... but it won't be this weekend. Too much other stuff on my plate yet. After the 20th I should be able to let down a bit. Thanks for your concern ppearson !

  16. Remember, even an hour doing something just for yourself can refresh and rejuvinate you, giving you the strength to face the next challenge.

  17. OP - wonderful news. Progressing to delicious split-pea soup probably made your dad chatty because his tongue and taste buds finally had new life. Glad to hear he will be going to the first choice SNF, good sign things are going his way.

  18. OP, I am really glad your Dad is doing so much better. That is really great news that he got in the first choice SNF! Will continue to think positive thoughts that he can go home soon.

Also, remember my suggestion of going out and getting a really good take out dinner from a restaurant of your choice and bring it back home, light some candles, take a nice long bath with some nice effervescent bath tablets and then enjoy your dinner. You will feel better all around and it will be a mini vacation moment.

I am going to go take myself to a nice steak dinner this Saturday. Don't really have the cash but need to do it anyways.

    Lots of hugs to you.

  20. Just heard from Mom. Dad is going to the care center later this afternoon. Doc originally thought 2-3 weeks, and now he is saying at most 2 weeks. Yea ! It's anticipated the wound in his belly will be healed within a week, and the drainage tubes out next Monday. Things are definitely looking up.

Thanks for being here for me, even when I'm not here for myself.

  21. Things just keep sounding better OP! I'm so happy for you and your family.

  22. Hurrah! Excellent news :-) xx

  23. Today is 8 weeks from the surgery. I have been to see Dad minimum 5 days a week since then, either at the hospital or the care center. He called me this morning. HE IS GOING HOME ON MONDAY !!! It has been a long 8 weeks... he is depressed and grumpy and has lost a great deal of weight. He's 5'11" and now weighs 138 pounds. I hope he'll have a better attitude once he is home.

Thank you all for your continued prayers... if you don't mind, would you pleae keep him (and my mom) in your prayers a while longer?

Posted 2 years ago by 2 Popoki #

  24. Hurrah! Excellent news!! Of course I will continue to pray for all three of you, he'll soon put that weight back on again. Great start to your weekend!

  25. What wonderful news.
Grumpy old men often recover more quickly than the more "compliant" ones so he should do well. He obviously has huge reserves of strength and determination to have come through the last 8 weeks (as do you).
    Hip hip hurray!

  26. OnePopoki, that's GREAT news! I'm sure your dad will be much happier to be at home, even if he's still experiencing discomfort or disability. Yay to dads that are tough old grumpmeisters!

  27. OP...that is such great news. He's probably pretty bored to, That happens when your bedridden for so long. Hey, do alittle Hula dancing for him as entertainment. Continued Hugs & Prayers for his complete healing & for your health & sanity. Hugs & Kitty Kisses.

  28. You all are wonderful.. thank you all, from the bottom of my heart !

Posted 2 years ago by 2 Popoki #

  29. What great news! And I agree from experience, the grumpier they are the faster they recover.
