  2. I am so glad they got it going again. I was going crazy without my owls.

  3. Oh I'm so glad the cam is back up! I tried twice today and was so worried we would miss the hatchlings. I guess that Texas storm must have done a number to the equipment. Whew!!

  4. Did you all read where the box is it's in an old open farm shed on a farm!

  5. Haven't seen dad yet. Hope he's ok.

  6. Yeah, I'm getting worried about Pop! I haven't seen him in quite a while! I hope he's ok, too! Dorie, I didn't read that. Sounds like a great location.

  7. Dad popped back in after momma started screeching real loud...he mated her and left. She's awfully vocal tonight. I think she's hungry...Still no hatchlings...

  9. I believe one of the eggs hatched!I thought I heard a faint peeping but then it stopped. Now I'm not sure if it was all my imagination or what...

Posted 3 years ago by Karenopa #

  10. No...I was wrong...there's still 8 eggs.....She hasn't been fed in a while...I'm worried for them all....

  11. I tried downloading the viewer so I couldwatch too, but, don't know what the heck I'm doing ,so all I get to see is a still photo. I wish I could watch them live. We have an owl living in one of the pine trees near by & I hear it hootin every day. It stays pretty hidden tho,so we don't see it flying too much. I wonder if it's sitting on any eggs?

  12. Hey Susie...I don't know how much longer I can keep watching this...It's stressful when you know she's hungry and all he's doing is coming in to breed her, not feed her. I get pretty anxious over her sometimes.

  13. I wish I was there with you I might be able to help you figure this out...I just keep poking around...reading things...and with any luck I succeed getting these things to work. Are you using Quicktime?

  14. Susie,
Are you watching the California owls or the Texas owls? The California owls are still images but the Texas owls have a streaming webcam

  15. Karen, he just about 15 min ago did bring her is a mouse, which she swallowed right away! Tho probably still hungry.

Posted 3 years ago by paulajeanne #

  16. Oh Thanks for telling me...PJ...I was doing something else and heard the sudden commotion and by the time I got back..it looked like she was eating something but I couldn't be sure. I guess cause she had swallowed it whole!! That's a relief to me but hopefully he'll score some more. It must be alot of pressure on him too..especially if the storms have forced alot of animals into their little holes.

  17. How are you feeling Owlwatcher? I hope you're getting lots of soup and juices in you sweetie. Stay warm!

  18. We have Realplayer or Window's Media player. I'm not sure if they're both working or if just Realplayer is. It won't let me into the Texas one. And the California one is still photo. Like I said ,I don't have a clue as to what I'm doing. So I can't take a chance of messing anything up since it's not my puter. I still keep track reading everyones posts tho. It almost feels like I'm watching.
Oops...I had to edit that. I had my states backwards.

  19. I read somewhere that the amount of eggs the owls lay is in proportion to the amount of prey available that year. So if there is plenty of prey, there will be more eggs and sometimes the owls will actually lay more eggs after the first chicks have fledged. If I am remembering correctly, 8 eggs means there is a lot of food available. Hopefully the storms haven't changed that. Usually, the owls will have a small pile of prey items in the nestbox for the female to snack and this supply of food will be replenished nightly. Either these owls prefer not to have extra food items in the nextbox or there isn't that much food available in the area, or the male is a slow hunter. We will probably find out more when both owls start hunting to feed the chicks.

  20. Susie,
You need Quicktime to view the streaming camera. You can get it here:

  21. I wanted to ask you owlwatcher. Why do the males continue to try to breed when the female has already laid eggs & is readying them to hatch?

Posted 3 years ago by feral #

  22. owlwatcher...it says I don't have a security certificate to download,so I don't dare do any adjusting to the security protection without male/partner's permission. I guess for now I'll just have to enjoy them thru the eyes of all you.

  23. The owls mate to strengthen the bond between them as well as for reproductive purposes. Owls couples are very affectionate to each other. They preen each other regularly and I swear I've actually seen Frida and Diego kiss!

    Posted 3 years ago by owlwatcher_974 #

  24. Is that the names of these owls OW? I've always wondered why they didn't have names.

Posted 3 years ago by Karenopa #

  25. Frida and Diego are the California owls. Last year, a few people wanted to name the Texas owls but others argued against it saying that it wasn't a good idea to get so attached to the owls.

  26. I just remembered a really sweet video I saw two years ago. There were two chicks in the Texas nestbox that were getting ready to fledge. These chicks were already leaving the nestbox regularly to hunt and it was only a matter of time before they left the nextbox for good. One evening, as they were getting ready to leave the nestbox, they stood together and "held hands" (one of the chicks took the other's talon in his/hers) and they stood that way for several seconds before leaving the nestbox. It was one of the last times that both were in the nestbox together and I think they knew this.

  27. Oh..well, that doesn't seem to matter..I'm already attached to the little Mr. and Mrs. anyway. he he. I can't believe how worried I was when the equipment had been damaged and I thought it may be the end of witnessing this miracle. I can't thank you enough OW for sharing this. I've never seen anything like this before.

  28. I'm glad so many people are enjoying the owls.

I still remember when I first found the owlcams. I hadn't been able to watch owls in a long time and I was really missing it. I hear them sometimes but rarely see them where I live. So, when I stumbled upon the owlcams, I was immediately hooked on them! I've been going back every year since then.

  29. Owlwatcher, how are you feeling tonight?

Posted 3 years ago by paulajeanne #

  30. I'm feeling a little better. The fever is mostly gone but my lungs are still driving me nuts. I stayed home from school and work for another day but I have to work tomorrow. It won't be too bad though because we decided tomorrow would be a good time to train a new girl who has been wanting to work for us. I will be spending most of my time teaching her the job and watching her so I won't have to do much work. Hopefully, it will be an easy day.
