  1. I posted a previous thread and figured it was time to introduce myself after explaining my kitty worries.

My name is Gaby and I live in San diego. I have two kitties. One goes by the name of Salem and he is a 3 year old fixed kitty. Salem is an all black kitty with green eyes. He was named after Salem in "Sabrina the teenage witch" My other kitty and newest edition to the family is called Pooky who is 8 weeks old. Pooky is a blue eyed white kitty with the exception of his tail and his nose which are tan. Pooky was named after Garfield's best friend, his teddy bear, Pooky. I figured that Salem would become best friends with his Pooky.

I'm currently trying to introduce these two boys to one another, hence how I discovered this site. I look forward to using visting and using these forums often. ^_^

  2. Welcome, Dragon! A bunch of us - myself included - have dealt with introducing a new kitten or cat to a "old" cat. We'll have lots of advice. I'm going to go look for the thread you started regarding those kitty worries.

  3. Welcome Dragon 620026! I loved the cat Salem Saberhagen from "Sabrina the teenage witch". I also love "Garfield" the comic strip and his "Pooky" bear. I had a black cat several years ago that I named Salem, also for the same reason. Good luck on getting your cats to co-exist with each other, it may take awhile.

  7. Hi Dragon6, welcome to TDK! Hope you have a lot of fun here, as well as getting any help and advice you need. I'll just say one thing : Feliway!!! I swear by it for helping to alleviate potentially stressful cat situations.

  10. Hi again Dragon6! Yes, helps to hear it from "the horse's mouth" doesn't it?! Quite a few people on this site have used feliway to good effect; it's been a godsend at least twice in our household, once when introducing my mum's elderly cat (who now lives with us) to our three young hooligans, and then with Eric (one of the aforementioned hooligans) who's prone to stress induced UTIs. I can't recommend it enough!!

  11. Well thanks again MadcatwomanintheUK. ^_^

  12. Also Dragon just remember that if they do fight to try and let them work it out. Don't let it become an all out battle, but for the most part they will figure it all out for themselves and you just need to give them time about it.

If you always just in it will leave the whole thing they were fighting about unresolved.

Our cats bumped heads when we moved in together (my wife and I) but we let them handle it for the most part and now the pecking order is established, favorite spots, toys and bed places are all sorted and good to go. :)

  15. Hi Dragon6! Welcome to TDK!

What part of San Diego do you live in? I grew up in San Diego and went to high school there. My mom still lives there, now in Rancho Bernardo. I will be going to see her in April.

  19. Welcome, Gaby! It sounds like you have a couple gorgeous kitties.

  20. Welcome Gaby! I recently introduced a new cat to my home as well. Just 6 weeks ago. Resident cat is 5, new cat is just under a year. It has been interesting! There is still hissing and growling and swatting going on. The older one will NOT allow the new one to touch her or cuddle with her. At least not yet. I am still hoping that will change... especially since it has been just 6 weeks.

  21. Once again, thank you so much for all of your advice. Things seem to be getting a bit better between Pooky and Salem. Salem has seen Pooky play from afar and wants to join in but is still a bit scared and just watches. Pooky seems to be scared of Salem as well.

Rubia, I live in mira mesa/rancho penasquitos.

Another thing, I'll be sure to post my cats on catster.com asap

  23. Welcome Dragon620026! You will find this to be a great place for kitten and human advice. There are a wonderful group of people here.

I introduced a 12 week old kitten (Mia) to my 2 year old kitty (Sylvester) back in October of last year (2007). She spit and hissed at him but within a week they were chasing and play fighting. I didn't keep them seperated but actually had them enclosed in my bedroom for about three weeks until I moved to a new apartment.

It has now been almost six months now and they clean each other's faces and sleep next to each other on the bed. They were chasing each other last night around the apartment. You can see them if you click on my name where it will take you to their catster webpages.

  24. Thank you for your support SylvesterandMiasMomma. I love the picture of both of them sleeping in the same cat bed.
