Prayers Needed for My Dad

  1. Hello, all. I'm coming in here with a prayer request. My dad fell off a ladder last March and broke his ankle. He pretty much shattered part of his femur bone and broke his ankle in three places, I think. He has had surgery to put his leg back together, but now he needs to have a screw taken out because his leg is hurting quite a bit and swelling also. I'm not sure on the details of the surgery for this, but I pray that my dad won't be in much pain, if any at all. Thanks, and I'll keep you folks posted!

  6. Prayers here. I had a badly broken ankle about 12 years ago and when they got all the hardware out it did help a lot. For some reason it is more painful with that stuff in there. (I had a pin and several screws). The surgery was day surgery and not to bad at all. It was a real relief when it was all out.

  7. We will all keep your dad in our prayers, MamaMeow. For what it's worth from a nursing standpoint, I've had patients who have had various screws removed, and they generally felt so much better afterwards. The screws are critical for realignment and healing but then they can often times become very irritating.

My little Willow had a badly broken leg at four weeks of age. Her surgery involved putting in three screws. After about eight weeks they were removed because they would have hindered the growth of her little leg. Apart from being extremely angry at us for taking her back to that bad place, she did just fine. In and out the same day!

  10. Sending heal and comforting prayer to your dad and the whole family, MM. Hope all goes well--I broke my ankle last year in 3 places and have 2 pins, a plate and 8 screws--so far none of it is bothering me but you can feel the instrumentation from the outside and it is weird!

  22. Well, folks, the doctors changed their minds as far as having the screw taken out. Now, they're saying that there is nothing they can really do unless Dad has a major operation. This will allow them to put an iron rod in his leg. Dad really doesn't want the surgery, but the doctors at the veterans hospital told him to think about it. I'll keep you guys posted.
By the way, thanks to everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and purrs. Also, to Cheri, I will definitely pray for your friend Margaret.

  23. Sometimes, MamaMeow, we just must trust what the doctors say. I truly believe that, at Veterans hospitals, they have the best interest in heart for the patient. I am a former Army nurse, wife of a veteran. Please give your father a hug for me and tell him "Thank you for your service".

  27. Well, my dad is still thinking about the surgery. He says that he's going to "give it a few more months" and see how his leg is as far as pain goes. If it still hurts him then, he says he's going to have the surgery probably in the fall. He doesn't want to be immobile during the summer months, and I can't blame him; it's too warm to be cooped up in the house for months and months and months. Anyways, that's your update for now.
    Hugs, purrs, and thanks,
    MamaMeow with a Meow!
