Here is Tuttibella's blog for Lucy Belle: http://www.lucybellenyc.blogspot.com/
Maybe posting a comment there will bring Tuttibella to TDK to update us.

I contacted her through catster a few weeks ago, and no answer. Gosh, I hope she's just busy and nothing else.

Hi all! I am so sorry for not posting an update. I apologize for making everyone anxious and waiting. Please be assured that Lucy Belle is just fine, happy and getting into more mischief each day.
I didn't have access to my computer for a while and it really sucks! I had a health episode myself and wasn't feeling too well. I am so glad Lucy Belle is with me and helping me make everyday easier.
She is teething now, her baby teeth are falling out and I kept a few pieces. They are so tiny and I didn't know what they were in the beginning! LOL! And I thought kittens swallow their baby teeth, well, that's not the case!
She is scheduled for the spay surgery early next month. I am hoping that I will be in the right physical condition to bring her to the vet myself. I wouldn't want to entrust someone else to be with her during one of her most crucial time.
Thanks so much for caring! I am deeply touched by this community. I will try to post more and hopefully everyone will take good care of yourself. Remember, to be a good pet parent, you must stay healthy first. :)

Glad to hear all is fine now! Lucy will do fine with her trip to the "spa." Has she been taking care of you while you weren't feeling well?

She's an absolute darling. I was basically confine to my bed for a few days and all she did was stay with me, purring against my face. :) I don't know what I'll do without her! She is so so young but she understands so much. She knew that I didn't have the strength to play with her so she just play by herself and always, always rub against me letting me know that I will be ok or just comforting me.
I cried a lot, I know such a baby myself. But she is so much stronger than me. She even licked away my tears and one night, when I had so much difficulty breathing, she actually rub her paws on my chest. I thought I had been imagining things but she actually made me feel better. I think her coming into my life is a huge comfort. I didn't know that someone so small and so young can bring such great insight into the meaning of life. She has thought me the important of wanting to survive and be well. Her own life is not short of a miracle and I thank her everyday for making those few weeks of my unfortunate circumstances more bearable.

Very glad to hear from you and happy to hear that your little one is doing fine. The spa trip for LucyBelle is much less of a deal than you'd think. Really..my two girls went in one morning and came home the next afternoon. They recover amazingly fast! They really have us all fooled...they're sooo tough even though they're sooo soft and cuddly.

Karenopa : Thanks for the reassurance! She's a brave girl so I am not really concern for her. It's me that is getting much more anxious. Also, I've been looking into signs that she could be in heat, as the vet had told me before. If she exhibited any of the signs, I should get her in right away. Nothing of such as of now so I think we are a-ok.

What a relief to hear from you and so sorry that you have been unwell.
Take care and do nothing to compromise your convalescence. As you have experienced our fur babes make the best nurses.

It's sort of like a respiratory thing but not bronchitis nor pneumonia. The doc said it could be *asthma* but he can't say for sure since it could also be seasonal allergy. He prescribed Advair and asked me to stay indoor at all times. And the worst piece of news was to stay away from Lucy Belle. I couldn't do it. I can't fault her. I've had her for a few months now and I just develop this only recently. I have no history of asthma either. It would KILL me if the doc ever asked me to give up Lucy Belle.
Since I brought myself to talk about it, how would you deal with such a situation? The breathing is under control now although I still have some mild episodes. Like I said, I didn't stay away from Lucy Belle and had her sleep with me as usual. I really don't think I am allergic to cat dander but I've never had a cat before and I also never had this breathing problems before. Am I just trying to fool myself? I hate it when I had to think about it.

One of the joys of raising kittens is the scratches. They are so apologetic once they know they have hurt you and try to make ammends by cleaning the wound.
The point of this is that cat allergies are neither the fur or the dander but the spit! If Lucy has cleaned any scratches and they became inflamed then you can expect a cat allegy. If they healed normally or more quickly then you are not likely to be reacting to cat spit.

I hope not TuttiBelle,Great Dane has some cat allergies and takes some meds but tolerates hers fine. Have you been allergy tested? Because I think some doctors are kinda quick to tell folks to get rid of their animals, just in case. Anyway GD also bathes her kitties about once a week which makes the allergies a lot more tolerable but she can tell you more.

I think there are tests that can be done to determine what you are allergic to if you have an allergy. It would be strange that you suddenly developed an allergy to Lucy Belle since she's been with you now for several months. Maybe your doctor will refer you to an allergist for some tests. Even if it turns out you are allergic to cat dander, there may be medication or ways to control cat dander that would let you keep Lucy Belle. No wonder you were worried and upset!!

Tuttibella, thank God...I am soooo hapy to hear from you, I was so worried. Lucy Belle, of course she would be such a dollie for her Mama; animals are very perceptive. With my first pregnancy I was quite ill, needed back surgery and was very depressed. Had it not been for my 2 kitties, Cori and Jenny, I don't think that I would have gotten through. In fact our son's middle name is Corie.
As far as the allergy potential, please be careful, a lot of docs are anti animal. I spent a month during my pediatric residency with an allergist and I hated it , as everyone got the advixce to dispose of their animal. I myself am quite allergic to cats, I take claritin daily, but I have develpoed quite a good tolerance to my own kitties. Every time I get a new one, I go through a few months of trouble and then I'm OK. Of course I don't have wheezing or asthma type symptoms and that needless to say has to be taken into account....If by chance it is Lucy Belle (I doubt it as your symptomns just began), I believe that there are options such as bathing, products to wipe the kitty etc - best check with the vet. I have to say, for me anyway, if I was ill, and my kitties were taken away, I think I would be sicker. I did not mean to go on and on, I am so happy to hear from you and to hear how wonderful Lucy Belle has been. Please get better soon. Kisses to Lucy Belle.Posted 3 years ago by Tigerlilly #

I have been feeling so depressed knowing that I could loose Lucy Belle. The doc had asked me to get an intradermal skin test to determine if I am allergic. I freaked out and didn't turn up for the appointment. I have been thinking and I know that they are ways to still keep Lucy Belle even though the test came out positive. I just don't have the courage to deal with it now.

Get your test and tell the DOC that regardless of the outcome the answer is "NO! Find another answer". He would not tell someone to dispose of a child or spouse if they tested positive for an allergy to them.
He is not God and he is only practicing. If he expects you to worship and obey, it is time to find a new Doc.Posted 3 years ago by ailuromaniac #

I do agree that a lot of docs are big time anti-animal. I already have a pre-existing allergy to shellfish and I have not eaten a shrimp, a crab or lobster in years. That I can give up easily. Also, my seasonal allergy come and go, I didn't have any last year. So, knowing me, the one thing my doc asked was if I have gotten myself an animal. His exact word, not a pet, a cat, a dog, *an animal*.

One way to look at it is that you either are or are not allergic to Lucy Belle. You know you are not going to giver her up. If you are not allergic to her, wouldn't you want to know what you ARE allergic to so you can avoid it? I know it is hard to face this, but Tigerlilly is right about there being ways you can deal with an allergy to cat dander or cat saliva. I hope you feel better soon and that your depression passes. {{{{hugs}}}}

Tuttibella, please do not get depressed....you are keeping your baby even if you need to shave her and bathe her daily!!! (she would still be cute no doubt)
Tuttibella, there is a potential benefit to getting tested; that would be that you could get shots to be desensitized. I have a good friend who was allergic to her new husband's cat. He, understandably, would not part with the kitty. She was desensitized and now many years later, they have never been without a cat in their home.
It may not be a bad idea to check for an allergist who is animal-friendly and will help you work with the situation. This may not be a simple task, as I know most take the easy road and suggest getting rid of all potential allergens. But it is worth checking this out. PLEASE, don't get depressed...SMILEPosted 3 years ago by Tigerlilly #
