Tuttibella...I am highly allergic to cats. All cats, my own cats. My allergist said to get rid of them. Did I, no. I told him so. I love my babies, I take medicine to combat my allergies and I also have asthma, so I deal with it. Personally, I wouldn't give Lucy Belle away for anything. She needs, loves you and you need and love her. Not to mention, you get used to your own cats. I don't have as much issues with my own kitties. Honestly, I don't even think about being allergic to them.
There are so many ways to help with allergies anyway not only meds so I wouldn't worry about it. With medicines and some pro active things, you and Lucy Belle will be fine.

Thanks everyone. I will take the test and be done with it. If I am, then I am. Feel so much better to finally be able to talk about it and now I have to tell my BF. He has no idea why I am being such a b-word these days.

I am allergic to cats. That doesn't stop me from having several furry babies to serve.
My doctor suggested I give them up; I told him no way. Now I take an over-the-counter allergy pill on any day I'm in really bad shape. He also suggested that I use a regular saline rinse for my nose at least twice a day. I try to be faithful about it and it really does seem to help. I keep one bottle in the shower and use it in the morning. Takes a little getting use to but it's not bad.

Tuttibella, Please keep us posted. My mom was allergic to animals, dust, pollen...you name it and had asthma. We were never without a pet in the house. She did shots and we kept all the pets bathed and brushed on a regular basis. Something that made a huge difference to her was when my father quit smoking. Her allergies lessened considerably once she was in a smoke free environment. If anyone around you smokes, that could be having an effect.
Fell well soon!

Tuttibella, the vet that I used to take the cats to was a "cats-only" vet (she started the first cat-only clinic around here) - and she was allergic to cats! She didn't care, she loved them. So, she took shots - and kept doing what she loved to do, working with cats all day long.

I had a cat since the age of 12--then in my 30's I was tested for allergies because of stomach problems, and found I was allegic to cats and dogs! I would rather cut off my right arm than give up my kits! You DO become de-sensitized to anything you have been around for awhile--that's what the shots do. My Dr. told me the only thing I should give up was vacuuming (Oh no, not that! LOL), but fat chance on that too!

Hi! I've rescheduled my appointment for this coming Friday. Wish me luck everyone. And thank you so much for sharing all your stories with me. Very uplifting and inspiring. I have a very strong feeling that I am not allergic to cats but either way, I need to know what is causing my sudden breathing difficulties.

Good for you, Tuttibella! Once you know what you are dealing with, you will be able to manage it. Please give Lucy Belle some chin scritches from me! And tell that boyfriend of yours to give you a hug!! :-)

Hi, Tuttibella and Lucy Belle, like some of the others have said, I am very allergic to cats, as well as dust and mold (I have six cats, work in a 200 year old building that had a fire with lots of water dammage causing mold!) I was a mess with sinus issues and finally went to an allergist who diagnosed me and told me to get rid of my cats and if possible find a new job - so realistic of him. I told him I would get rid of my cats when he got rid of his son. I have been taking allergy shots for seven years and for the most part the allergies do not bother me now. I've not had a sinus infection for years and I sure snuggle my babies. There are remedies, don't give up Lucy ever! Good luck.

Hi! Need to update everyone here. The test came back NEG and I am not allergic to cats. *Happy happy dance ... .. *uh-huh* *pant* *pant*. I am soooooo relieved! Thank you so much for all who replied. I am just so glad that I am fine with Lucy Belle although I am still not out of the woods yet. Still had to depend on Advair to clear my airway. It sucks but I hope I'll feel much better when summer's here.

Thanks and I finally get to update Lucy Belle's blog. She's a little at me right now because I wouldn't let her jump onto the computer desk. I guess she had to make sure I included all that she wanted to say in her blog update. Sheesh Lucy Belle, I can't possibly see when you are sitting right in front of the monitor right baby?

Yeah, some good news. That's wonderful Tuttibella!! who could be allergic to such a precious baby anyway :)
Tuttibella, I am allergic to almost everything, dust, some grass, some trees, dogs, cats, mold..etc...so my allergies are on overdrive well most of the time. You might be just like me. I was taking advair for my asthma, and it worked great but once I got pregnant they switched me to singulair and that's what I am still taking.
Good luck with your allergies honey..I am just so glad about you and LucyBellePosted 4 years ago by cricketsmama #
