  4. Anne, sorry to hear about your job; hope you find new one soon, once the kitties are old enough to be alone for the day ;-) You are truly an angel to help these little darlings. The pictures are great!

  6. I can see why you were surprised to see what color they were. Filthy dirty little mew butts & adorable. Let me guess...the one with the open mouth must be screaming Mimi. lol

  7. Sorry to hear about the job situation Ann.Those babies are so cute!

  8. Susie, you're absolutely correct; the one that's meowing is Mimi! She's screaming a lot less, but she's much more vocal than her littermates. I'll have to see if I can get some "after" photos listed this weekend. I've also got several short videos to put up.

  9. Oh, these scruffy little darlings are so cute. My first kitty as a girl was named Mimi. With your help, they will have shiny coats, clean bright eyes and round tummies! God Bless

  10. So cute-thanks for the advice, Ann. These are newborns, only 2 weeks old. Their eyes are just beginning to open.

  11. A quick update on the trio of kittens. They're all eating hard food, drinking water, and using the litterbox consistently. They no longer need daily bathing, either. Photos and story on Catster will be updated by the end of the week.

Now for the not-so-good news. The woman where my friend S works, where the kittens came from in the first place, is not going to adopt them (any of them). They have ferrets and hamsters and a 2-year old child, and they are still dealing with the aftermath of a long-term layoff. So these little guys have no home to go to, yet.

Please send thoughts and prayers, as I will need help finding them all good homes.

  12. Oh Anncetera, I am sorry their furrever home fell through. I will think positive thoughts that you will be able to find them new homes soon and that you also land the job you want and need. Hugs, purrs, and prayers.

  17. Terri, if you're still looking for a girl kitty, and you think one of these lovely kittens will do, please reply on this thread. I may not reply right away, but I hope to be checking back in before the end of the day tomorrow.

I will be sexing the kittens tonight, in an attempt to find out which one/s are male or female. More news tomorrow!

  18. I am so glad that they are doing well. Well done! I will pray for wonderful furrever homes.

  19. Brief update: the largest orangie is a male, the other two (including Mimi) are females. Good to know, for naming purposes!

  20. So, I get up this morning to answer the call of nature... then check in on the trio of kittens. I walk in, shut the door, and Mimi is on the floor, meowing, immobile, with butt in seated position and front of chest on the floor, her front legs poking out awkwardly and at weird angles under her. I watch her struggle, trying to get up, but she doesn't.

I gently scoop her up, avoid stepping on either of the other kittens, and sit down in the easy chair. She meowed once or twice, then poops on me. Then she peed on me. I put her in the litter box, and stood her up to make sure her legs were working properly. She hopped out, ate food, drank water, crawled back up into my lap... her legs seemed to be working just fine.

I took a deep breath. And another... and another.

It was about a year ago that I took in Mama Kitty and her 4 feral kittens, when they were about 6 weeks of age. (One of the litter of 5 had already met an untimely end in the street.) A day after taking them in, I had to rush to the vet with one of the 4 kittens, who was having seizures. She suffered something like 5 or 6 seizures in the course of an hour. The final one occurred as the vet was examining her on the table. Afterward, the kitten showed signs of rear leg paralysis and brain damage.

Faced with this, and after a short period of further testing by the vet, I chose to humanely end her too-short life. I bawled like a baby. She'd been the one feral kitten of the litter I could hold. I'd fed her gloppy wet kitten food from a syringe (she was halfhearted about nursing). I was heartbroken. I'd never had to make such a difficult decision on behalf of a tiny kitten before. I buried her near my house; last week I planted a bleeding heart where she was buried.

I can think of many, many better ways to become fully awake than to have one's heart leap into one's throat...

  21. Thank goodness it was just a potty emergency! I can see how your previous experience would have given you such a scare today. Hopefully the rest of your day will be joyfull after such a rude awakening.

Posted 4 years ago by Tigerlilly #

  22. BIG HUGS for you and soft strokes for wee Mimi. She experienced love and human kindness when it mattered the very most. Don't feel too bad for too long, Mimi had a much more loving and humane ending than what -could- have happened if you'd never interceded with those tiny souls to begin with.

You did just fine. Sometimes our role is to just ease the little ones from this world to the next. For Mimi...she will have plenty of big kitties to wash and love her at the Rainbow Bridge.

And you still have a pair of sweet orange boys!

  23. DOH, I misread the post. Mimi seems to be ok?

Posted 4 years ago by Siobhan #

  24. Siobhan, Mimi appears to be just fine; no vet emergency this morning. (The whole incident just reminded me so very much of the kitten last year, who didn't even have a name yet.)

    Posted 4 years ago by anncetera2 #

  25. Oh anncetaera I'm so sorry, that must have been so hard for you. Glad that this was just a potty scare and not a serious problem..boy those little ones sure get deep into heart quickly!

    Posted 4 years ago by 2bpurring #

  26. I can't tell you how relieved I am. Whew!!

    Posted 4 years ago by anncetera2 #

  27. Oh Ann, I am so sorry about the feral kitten. That must have been heart wrenching! No wonder you were feeling a little panicky when Mimi had her potty issue. Glad to hear she is okay. That is so sweet that she climbed back into your lap. I bet that pulled on the heart strings. Mimi sounds like a sweetie!

  28. Anncetera...don't you just love to watch them when your feeding them? I just melted when I saw their little Yoda ears wiggle as they were sucking on the bottle. And their teeny, tiny little toe nails? Or the way they look at you with their head half-cocked because they can't quite make you yet with their vision? I'm so greatful for even a short experience like I had this weekend. Great memories.

Posted 4 years ago by feral #

  29. Oh anncetera... what a way to start the day ! I hope the day only got better from there.. and am so happy kitty is OK. How quickly they get into our hearts. HUGS to you my friend, you do amazing things with this little ones.

Once I have a camera again - mine broke (again) I'll get an updated picture of Mili (Melia, Amelia - she answers to all and none of these LOL) for you. She is such a pretty little girl.

  30. Susie, they are so darn cute! They're past the ear-twitch stage when they eat, but they're all about sitting halfway into the food dish to eat. Thank goodness they're eating dry food now! They all rush the door when I come by the room.

I finally have a computer at home - YAY!!! What a difference this will make! I made my office in the east room upstairs, looking out over the front yard, where the daffodils and grape hyacinths are in bloom, and the chickadees and house finches are attending to the bird feeders. With any luck, I'll soon have hummingbirds and rose-breasted grosbeaks coming by. As soon as I clear some dreck out of the office, I can have the kittens live in here. This means I'll need to commit to an hour or two of TV every night, since that's when my resident kitties snuggle with me. (They also snuggle with me when I sleep.)
