  1. Well, the other day I took my little Chance to the vet because he was throwing up. (by the way,he is fine!!) Anyways, the vet did an exam on Chance and then came back 2 minutes later and says.." well, HE is a SHE!!" Me and my mom start laughing and kinda confused about it. LOL. But, we got "him" at an animal shelter and SHE is a long haired gal so, I guess it was hard to tell that it was a girl!!

But, we are going to keep the name Chance!!

  3. I had a similar experience with my Fuzz Baby. His mom was feral and he was almost weaned before I ever got him to come close enough to catch. He just looked like a little girl to me, so I started calling him (her) Little Miss Muffet. Well, Miss Muffet was on my lap one day and turned her tail to me and lo and behold, little Miss Muffet was a HE! She/he already was responding to Miss Muffet as her name, so he/she became Fuzz Baby! He too is long haired which made it harder to tell.

  4. Hahaha! This is funny..Our Shady was actually named Sady then we discovered our error and added the H...It's pretty tough getting them to sit still long enough at that age to really get a good look!

  5. My friend is feeding a feral/stray with long hair and can't get close enough to tell gender either. One day she refers to the cat as HE and the next SHE. Right now it is names OSC for Outside Cat so it works either way. She is going to be calling Shamrock Society to help her catch him or her and get Spa treatment and shots done. Not sure if OSC will become ISC after that or not!

  6. Well I took Jasper in to the vet for the first time,he wasn't feral or anything. I had a nice girl's name all picked out and when the vet told me she was a he I said "I guess I can't call him Crystal Huh? He would get laughed at". So he became a Jasper. When they're tiny,it's hard to tell.

  7. Aww, you love her just the same! It's easier to tell if you have another to compare when they are that young.

  8. when Calico had her second litter, I was positive she had two girls and two boys... which was true, but I had Patches as a boy and Mookie as a girl.. and it turns out that Mookie was a boy and Patches was a girl :)

  9. I usually refer to cats as a 'she' until I know for sure.. I simply can not call them 'it'.

  10. Same here too! Lucy Belle was formerly Benjamin. I didn't know better and just check the internet guide and compare it to her. I thought I got it right and for the first 2 weeks of her life, she's a boy, LOL! A trip to the vet and all is revealed.

  11. This is how we were taught to tell the difference between male kittens and female kittens, and it still works for me.

Turn the kitty on his back and look toward it's nether-regions. If you see a colon, it's a boy, if you see a semi colon, it's a girl. That's how I found out all of Huddy's littermates were boys, too. Not one girl in the bunch.
