  1. Honda can do it but Gm can't?

  2. I think the issue is that GM says energy distribution first and Big Oil says cars first.

The best solution would be on-board electrolysis (ye ol'e fill-er up with the garden hose solution) to recharge the cell.

But who am I to dispute the bean-counters running the auto producers and big oil?

  3. Secondary thought,

    Discrediting distribution first philosophy:

Where would we be if Henry et.al. waited for nationwide corner gas stations to be in place?

  4. That stinks...How embarrassing that our american car manufacturers aren't taking this whole thing more seriously..Shame on them all!

  5. This is the kind of technology that needs to happen.

  6. Yes and what's sad is it's not like we just woke up yesterday and decided emissions were killing the atmosphere. We've known about this long enough that we should be producing the same thing ourselves in this country already.

  7. This is one area ailuromaniac where I think the government should get involved and help build fuel stations around the country, and I am not one to want the government to get involved very much.

But since this involves the infrastructure of the country, they could do a little negotiation with Exxon and the like to twist their arms into building fuel stops.

  8. I agree at this point but 15-20 years ago the car companies and big oil were making the same arguements. If they had moved forward on this and other technologies instead of entrenching, we could lift the happy salute to the Middle East now and be leading the Green Revolution instead of dragging our whiny asses behind the emerging leaders.

I remember getting a survey in the mail with my Conoco bill when the oil embargo trippled gasoline prices. (0.339 cents to 0.999 cents a gallon) asking stupid questions about what was fair to pay for gas and fuel economy.

Wrong person to ask. My Dad worked with R. K. Owen a BIG, HUGE, HUMONGOUS name in fuel techology circles. I was weaned on stories of how easy it would be to triple and or quadruple the fuel efficiency of the reciprocating internal combustion engine (a rotten technology as it is but the root of the arguments Conoco was trying to make points on in their survey). I quoted from memory and a book on alkalidation of fuels he wrote for pages.

I never got a response but our bills came in a plain envelope with a plain return envelope from that date on. No buy this or that coupons and NO MORE SURVEYS.

  10. And then there is this article as well which makes a nice argument that biofuels are not the greatest thing to happen after all

I think the path is clear on which way is the best way to go right now. Hydrogen cars and nuclear power for the simple fact it will get us off of oil and keep our economy from having to spend so much just on power.

Once we have done that then we can divert our research to finding a better power source than nuclear that won't damn up rivers, litter the landscape with windmills or solar panels, or pollute the air.

  11. I am against using food to produce fuel directly. Used cooking oil...no problem. And natural gas is immediate and can be replenished by cleaning up stock yards and other decomposition sources. I know these are essentially supplemental but they do have the subsidiary benefit of cleaning up another mess.
There was a program on the Science Chanel last night about a plasma solution to generate energy from garbage.
I need to root around on that one.
Then there was something about recycling nuclear fuel via a process that looks to reduce those wastes by 90%.
Oh yes and in addition to the infrastucture investments the Gov needs to make supplementing the replacement cost to us folks struggling to make ends meet on our transport. Would not have to pass out new cars just exchange engines.
Lots of jobs we could be creating in this field.
