He had mild diarrhea. We took him to a vet who prescribed flagyl. When he got the flagyl thing immediately went downhill. He had explosive diarrhea and couldn't make it to his box anymore. He kept falling over when he tried to walk and couldn't form a meow when he tried.
We rushed him to the hospital. They ran blood work on him and it was all good except for his protein levels being extremely low.
The vet at the hospital said the original vet was wrong in giving him flagyl because he was too small to be able to handle it. He thinks that the flagyl, along with the booster shot that he received at the same time did something to his immune system and he caught a virus. He was so weak and tiny already that the virus is taking a huge toll on his body. He believes there are fibers in his digestive track that are dying which help aid in digestion and hopes that the virus will pass in a few days and the fibers will start to come back.
The main concern right now is gaining weight. Overnight last night he lost more weight and he has diarrhea right after they feed him (he's on a schedule where he gets a special diet every 4 hours through a tube). They said its the same consistency going in as it is going out which means hes not absorbing anything.
It's really in limbo right now. If he can start putting on weight things will start looking up, but if not... :(
